As someone who doesn't care all that much about graphics, how will having all of this speedy RAM benefit me? Sincere question.
You can brag to your xbox friends about it.

Yeah, what is the cost for this kind of ram?
i just read the whole thread
so..
this mean 4K games are possible?
this mean Agni's Philosophy at 1080p60 easily?
why nvidia is going to sell titan at 1000$ having 6GB GDDR5?
i'm clueless about tech specs.

did you see my previous posts?
I am not in a mood to argue or bring up old statements. see my previous posts
Thank You
It means you're gonna get some sexy textures. Those other things require processing power not ram.
I'm betting the PS4 will have an external power supply from the start.
I am adding this up correctly right, this is a 16x jump in memory, what were previous generations?
I think there was a rumor that said the power supply would be external. I hope so, the more heat they can keep from this console the better.I'm betting the PS4 will have an external power supply from the start.
While resolution and fps won't really change, the difference will be in higher quality texturing, particle effects, lighting, draw distance and AI. These will set the PS4 apart.
Alot of GAF personalities lost their credibility tonight
And imagine from something by a studio like Naughty Dog or Santa Monica Studio
Sexy textures, large, reactive open worlds. It means you're gonna get some sexy textures. Those other things require processing power not ram.
Whose actually showed their face round here? I see certain folks have suddenly stopped posting for some reason.
Past few weeks they couldn't wait to tell us what they'd heard from their 'sources'
Wait a sec, Nvidia's card has two less GB and is $1000? Either their margin on that is insane, Sony is running a Producers like farce of a business or this thing will cost a boatload.
Are we working under the assumption that both studios are still open in 5 years? And imagine from something by a studio like Naughty Dog or Santa Monica Studio
To be fair, wasnt he one of the first ones to say PS4 would use GDDR5?After what thuway said about PS4, his credibility is also lost on Durango:/
PS1 > PS2 was a 10x increase
PS2 > PS3 was a 14x increase
PS3 > PS4 is a 16x increase
PS1 (3.5MB RAM total)
2MB Main RAM
1MB VRAM
0.5MB Audio RAM
PS2 (36MB total)
32MB Main RAM
4MB VRAM
PS3 (512MB total)
256MB Main RAM
256MB VRAM
PS4 (8192MB total)
8GB Unified RAM
What are you talking about?

Really, increasing the RAM amount is oe of the most gameplay (as opposed to graphics) focused things you can do in terms of technical specifications. GAF should be ecstatic.
Instead of Lod pop in we will have fluid landscapes. As polies are transferred from area to area.Lest we forget, like skin shader, tessellation may play a big role in being learned and seasoned for proper usage as the years go by.
I just hope the LOD object and shadow pop-ins are mitigated as much as possible as the next gen keeps on developing.
Wrong... 8GB GDDR5

All the insiders said 8 was out of the question. I wonder if they too were surprised at the 8gb announcement or if they were being coy and knew all along that it was going to be 8.

Betashed has no more excuses for shitty ports.

I would imagine some developers were even surprised by the announcement if they weren't working on the latest kits and planning on being there at launch.
Honestly this is the part of revelations I don't like.He said 100% on PS4 using 4GB GDD5 and that the specs won't change.
The difference is that the 8GB in the PS4 is all the ram the system has in total. Making it all GDDR5 brings advantages, but there are other parts of the equation. The 6GB on the Titan is just the RAM dedicated to the GPU, plus most gaming PCs that use a Titan will have 8GB of DDR3, 16GB, or more.i just read the whole thread

This is true. To be honest, after the "always on movie recording" rumours appeared I was always skeptical of the 0.5 GB claim for OS usage. That didn't seem feasible with that feature set. I had resigned myself to 1 GB OS / 3 GB games. This is obviously much better, even if they reserve 2 GB for OS features. The thing is however, we still do NOT know just how much is actually reserved for games. It may end up being only 5GB, which although would be a whopping 1.5GB from the previous rumoured amount of 3.5GB is still 3GB short of 8GB.
Oh ok. I remember him initially saying it would be 4GBs, but I must have missed him saying the specs absolutely wouldnt change. It still seemed like he hit on alot of other stuff though. He said 100% on PS4 using 4GB GDD5 and that the specs won't change.
Umm, that Nvidia card has 2 gpus in it + 6gb gddr5.
We still dont know how much gddr5 costs. Especially if you order millions of it in bulk.
Yeah, when used for that over just higher resolution textures it can really shake things up. I don't care about cramming as much detail as possible on a texture, I want larger more open worlds, especially seamless ones.Sexy textures, large, reactive open worlds.
