Only title to impress me from this year's E3.

Thanks, Bungie. Pretty fucking generic, ugly, and boring without you.

Joseph Staten was the Warlock in Sony's conference.
Jason Jones played the Warlock in this IGN vid, i think.

Yeah maybe I mixed them up, anyway the guy playing in the IGN vid is better at showing the combat I think. Too bad that the game is still so far away. :(

I'm amazed yet not surprised at all that the music is, once again, incredible. Marty is truly magnificent.

Anyways, I was actually a bit underwhelmed with the demo they brought to E3 until they got to the Public Event area. That's when I started to understand what Bungie was trying to do, and saw the potential in what they've been saying. It was reminiscent of Guild Wars 2, but with Bungie's great realtime FPS gameplay...very promising.

IGN has the behind the scenes demo, with a much better player.

Shooting looks great to me, as for movement, I would like some small lateral dogde moves, but otherwise it looks good. I'm wondering if you can build a character for speed, and what that plays like?

The star is the playable space. Destiny is going to be a *big* game with a *lot* of content.

Wow that was a much better footage then the E3 demo.
I just love Joe enthusiasm and his geeky stuff :)

Hope all platforms will a beta next year.
Will double dib on pc and xbone.

I like the gameplay on PlayStation Youtube channel (and different to the press conference stage demo), you see them use the controller which is nice, and it's good quality:

Man i need a 1080p clip from that footage looks so much clearer on that youtube video.

I really like the look of Destiny, but disagree with the rest. I thought it was a very strong E3, the strongest one in ages. Both in terms of gameplay and art. I love how games like The Witcher 3 and MGS 5 go open world, I love the creativity on display with Platinum's Wii U double whammy of Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2, the focus on indies, the survival horror return of The Evil Within, the beautiful platforming of Rayman Legends and Puppeteer, the Team ICO vibe of Rain, the worthy sequel that Dark Souls II seems to be, the potential of Quantum Break and The Order, the almost Platinum-esque combat of the new Final Fantasy and the surprise that was The Division. I also thought Titanfall looked more fun to actually play.

That said, Destiny is definitely on my radar.

Also - was there a bug with the Ghost at the Playstation conference? It didn't illuminate anything until the building power was turned on. It just sort of disappeared and they were left in darkness.

Really nice demo, learned a lot watching it. The size of the playable space, the dodge maneuvers. Looks good.

I just noticed that regular enemies don't appear to be dropping weapons, or at least they're not picking them up. Which makes me wonder about resource management; ammo, etc.

Looks like they drop generic ammo cubes instead.

Have you guys seen THIS?!

Thanks to a fella on the Bungie forums named nickgmon, he posted a video over 10 minutes long. It seem to be, at least from the description given, an alternative E3 trailer, with many new bits of footage and cool cinema like shots of planets we'll apparently get to visit.

Quality isn't the greatest but it's a damn great video.

Soo good.

Cool, good read.

Man, I wish they would shake the script up a bit like they did at the beginning showing all of that playable area. So fucking goood.

How does mulitiplayer actually work?

From what has been said in the past, it'll work all in game. You leave the Tower in your ship and fly to an arena and duke it out in slayer/CTF types of game modes. This is based both on speculation and what I've heard from Bungie in interviews and the like.

Thanks. Meant co-op tho. Seemed like drop-in during the demo, so is it always on?

From what I can gather, yes. (If you chose to play that way.)

I do not believe an online connection is required to play, but I may be wrong. Either way, they have said you can go solo and ditch the social aspects if you wish.

Didn't even think about competitive multiplayer. That sounds cool.

Yup. There's no way to have all that playable area and all those events without them being hosted on a server that would required the internet to access. They simply meant that you don't have to group with others to play the game, which is true of the vast majority of MMO's today.

Agreed, I loved every minute of it.

And, in my opinion, Bungie has been the king of generic and ugly in its past games (namely Halo.. namely Halo 3). Such a pleasant surprise to see something so amazing looking coming out of them. Can't wait to play it!

  • A demo from IGN with a good player.

damn, now i'm really feeling this game. the guy playing at the Sony conference should've done the same as in this vid, turning around and looking at the gorgeous scenery.. which is all playable space?! holy shit, wow. i cannot wait to explore every inch of this game with friends and strangers. should be fantastic, exactly the kind of stuff i love.

anyone know how big exactly the game is going to be? do we get to space travel? space fights maybe? can we exit the solar system at some point? it's a hugely ambitious game so i'm really hoping to visit a lot of different places :) maybe an underwater mission on Europa.. how fucking rad would that be.

my only negative so far are the enemy designs.. kind of lame to me, and preditable. i hope there will be at least some surprising alien types, along with those robots and big brutish monsters etc. gimme something that actually looks alien, creatures that i haven't seen before. the Fallen are ok though, i guess.

That sucks, I hope their servers hold up on launch day...

Dam fuck it, Did this for Simcity i will do this for Destiny.
Will get X1 version no one will get that console anyway and cloud magic :p.
And double dip on the pc version later on if bungie doesn't fucks the pc fanbase..

I think the biggest draw of this game is going to be the multiplayer aspect. Joining public events and playing through private missions with your friends seamlessly is impressive.

I fucking hope this will be 60fps on next gen! Looks amazing and a direction i want shooters to go in, had a blast with defiance. (was a little to light on content)

Given the type of game it is, thats fine with me.

Assuming it has good competitive MP I hope it has an offline custom game mode for tournaments, etc.

It is fully online game, they've made that pretty clear, don't expect any offline modes.

Also, don't expect this to play like Halo: Classes (despite having having only limited impact), ADS, sprint, blooming, a lot of weapons with small variations, armor pieces have stats...
It is more likely to resemble a cross between COD and World of Warcraft PVP, i think.
Just speculation, of course.

I think it will still roughly "feel" like Halo with the gunplay (ADS aside of course). Probably player movement as well (even with the sliding added). For Run n Gun types from CoD it will feel slow.

Have they confirmed a release window they're trying to target?

Early 2014? Late 2014?

I'm guessing this will probably be a Fall 2014 title, but damn it would be so good to be playing this in March of next year.

There are reports that Activision doesn't want it colliding with CoD, so i'd expect early to mid 2014.

They're delaying it solely for that reason? LAME!

They're just rumors as far as I know. Activision hasn't came out and said that. But they only have a handful of franchises as you saw at this E3. They only showed Destiny, CoD and the new Skylanders game. That's it. So it's hard to believe that they'd want to place Destiny near CoD.

Believable. Even though I don't think the playerbases would collide that much. They'll play very differently. But perhaps they're banking on the Bungie crowd who expects it to be more like Halo than like WoW. And all those people are going to be very disappointed when they actually play it.

EDIT this is just speculation and guessing:
Yeah, probably. But it won't play like classic Halos, i think. The closest will be Reach, if everyone had access to Sprint and two Armor Abilities, and no Halo-grenades (well, one class ability is probably grenade-like, we know the Warlock's Solar Flare works like a grenade (presumably)), with ADS.
I won't expect the game to be very competitive, not a game for those who look a large skill-gap.

I don't think they're delaying it at all, I'm sure if Bungie was ready to release it this year they would.

That said, having their two biggest franchises release six months apart (May for Destiny and November for COD) makes a ton of sense.

I really want to see how the game plays when bungie just lets someone run around in that kind of open areas for ½-1 hour. Will those kind of areas have interesting things to stumble across, old ruins with stuff hidden, things that start missions etc etc. Or will it just be big open spaces with little too do but fight packs of enemies.

Personally I would be very happy if they manage to replicate something like the exploration aspect of skyrim and fallout. That was basically the best parts about those games imo, just running around and discovering buildings, caves, towns and just random people.

They're delaying it solely for that reason? LAME!

Even if that were true, it'd just give them some more time to add polish and content. Something most mmo ( yeah yeah, destiny is not technically an mmo ) seem to lack on release these days.

Lame makes Destiny multiplayer not for me then. Had hoped they would give classes base skills and base gear kinda like how Guild wars pvp worked. So devs had an easier time to balance multiplayer.
At least that was what i was told, when a friend tried to convince me to drop wow for guildwars :).

But never intended to get it for competitive multiplayer anyway.
Im in for the raids and dungeons just hope they have enough end game content or it will be like every mmo that hasn't fail.

We don't really know. I'll add to my post that it is my speculation and guessing.
Still, i recommend to temper your expectations, at least until we get more info.

I'm concerned a bit with (some?) enemies showing health bars.

I wonder if there will be any Marathon references/lore in this, even if it is just a small nod.

I would be quite surprised if we get dungeons and raids in the traditional sense. Destiny doesn't really seems much like traditional mmo's ( is it even an actual mmo? ). Just look how different planetside 2, the only real fps mmo, is from traditional mmos like wow or rift.

It's a lot more like traditional MMO's than you may think. They just disguise it well. "Fireteams" are Parties. And that section of The Wall is actually a Dungeon. A short one that's tuned down (either because it's a starter dungeon or for demo purposes with just two people) but it's definitely a dungeon. Trash mobs and a boss that drops loot at the end. Then the Public Event is a bit like a World Raid Boss. As far as WoW style Raids that are large dungeons with multiple bosses and more than one party.. jury is out at this point but they could still do it. Make it a Faction or Clan mission that requires 2-3 Fireteams.

God's had his chance.
I'll never understand how game companies and execs never realize the dire importance of having someone who can play the game REALLY WELL be the person demoing it on stage. They don't need to talk (you need a good tone and flow for that ) they just need to make the game look as awesome as possible. And watching some schlub who i wouldn't team up with in a game like this if he tried to give away loot or whatever just suuuuuucks...

Biggest pet peeve of any of these shows for years now. I'll never get it. Like these assholes spend 28 hours a day working on a game never actually play the damned thing.
