12 The Toxic Avenger - ️️️️️

I can't give this enough stars. It is an absolute favorite and embodies everything I love about both horror and Troma studios.

It's low budget, it's cheesy, it's gratititious, it's over the top and excessively violent, but goddammit do I have a giant grin on my face the entire time it's on. The practical effects are very good considering the budget and everyone needs to watch it at least once.

Probably the best movie I will watch this year.

Sorry, I'm watching the movies but can't post here due to extreme amount of work

01 - Death Spa

Awesome way to start, totally the feel of 80s trash with girls, nonsense story, gore and good deaths.

02 - Old

I'm suspect because I like the movies of Shyamalan, so it´s intense and interesting to see how the story develops, I was curious the entire movie.

03 - Bloody Hell

At first I thought this movie was heavy or only focused on torture, but I was wrong, I remember Ready or Not, because of how I enjoy watching this movie.

04 - I, madman

Maybe I don't know how to judge correctly because of my love for Horror movies, specially the old ones, but I liked. It's decent and entertaining.

05 - Scream (2022)

For me it's a great sequel with the good old characters, I remember when I watched first Scream, and nostalgia hit me hard.

06 - Highway to Hell

Wow, it's amazing, there's a mix of The Hitcher + From Dusk Till Dawn + The Wraith + Mad max and many more good movies. I loved it
Ben Stiller was in it, and there's tons of reference in the movie. For me it's a 10/10 easy.

14. Ghoulies - ️️

This series was a favorite of mine as a kid (probably mostly due to the creature design.) but sadly it doesn't hold up at all.

The best part of it now is a teenage Mariska Hargitay.

15. Aliens - ️️️️️

After 57 years in hypersleep the corporation finds Ripley and sends her back to whence she came.

Things don't go smoothly.

13. Friday the 13th V: A New Beginning. -

Just to elaborate on this a bit. Right now Freddy is just getting started and we just came off a wierd Halloween entry.

B movie horror is about to hit its 80s peak and this just feels like an inconsequential movie in the series.

The Killer is never actually Jason, and it tries to twist so much, that it's all ineffective.

I hate to use open spoilers, but this is almost offensive to people that wanted a good Friday film.

I'm surprised the series didn't die here.

The only redeeming part of FXIII part 5 is that it had the best breasts aside from the remake (which is about the only redeeming thing about the remake as well).

7 - It Crawls Beneath (They Crawls Beneath)


When I saw the poster and the story I remember Tremors haha, it's not exactly like Tremors, but somehow I liked this movie, if they put more scenes outside it will be good. But general, it was a nice movie to watch.


8 - The Sadness


Wow, I didn't expect to much gore, this movie was a recommendation, so I did not look into any trailer, and I really liked the plot and the gore. I'll say again, there's a lot of gore hahaha.


9 - X



Awesome modern horrror, if you need something new X can satisfy your needs. The actress Mia Goth is really incredible, and the plot is original, even if you remember Texas Chainsaw sometimes. Can't wait to watch Pearl.


10 - Friday 13th


It's a rewatch to do a marathon from first movie. I did not remember some deaths, and to me the classic aged very well. I watched in 4k, so it's pretty nice and incredible to watch in such quality.


11 - Crawlspace


Some good oldmovie from 80s again, a Nazi voyeur killing some girls, crazy right? Klaus Kinski did a great job in this movie.


12 - Friday 13th - Part 2


I did not remember if I already watched some years ago, but anyway, it's a surprise to have such a great sequel, to me it's the same level as the first, looks more polished than the first one with good deaths.


13 - Body Snatchers


Totally the vibe of 90s that I like hahah, some people said this is not good as the remake of 78 or the original one, but I liked, exactly what I was expecting. With forest Whitaker in it, some good old story about aliens, US army etc

Movies so far in October:

The Munsters (2022): This is definitely in the spirit of the original show, for better or worse. I didn't enjoy it at all. The nicest thing that I can say about it is that I dig the look of the film. Otherwise I found it boring.

The Exorcist (1973): Haven't seen this in decades. It shows it's age a bit, but it's still effective. It has a powerful mood/atmosphere that most modern horror can't touch. The practical effects are outstanding too. Just a timeless film, in general.

Fear Street Trilogy: Found these predictable and pretty lame. There's some decent gore though. 2 is done in the style of an 80s summer camp slasher flick and was probably my favorite of the 3.

Hellarious: This is an anthology of shorts that are mostly terrible. The first one is the best, by far. It's about a killer shopping cart. It's called.....Killer Kart. If you have 15 minutes, check it out.




Currently watching The Midnight Club. It's the latest series from Mike Flanagan, the guy behind Haunting of hill House, Bly Manor, Midnight Mass. It's about a group of terminally ill teens in an old victorian manor turned hospice center. The terminally ill teens make a pact that the first person to die will reach out from the afterlife. It's a slow-burn and not holding my attention. The characters feel dull and there's no one to carry the show like the Father Paul character did in Midnight Mass. Not sure I'll see this one all the way through if it doesn't pick up.

Movies so far in October:

I was never a fan of The Munsters and liked Addams Family more, so I was afraid I'd hate this movie based on the source material.

Bodies Bodies Bodies was our first watch. New comedy slasher, on the surface you might dismiss it as zoomer humour, but it manages to lampoon itself often enough. The main cast are for the most part insufferable but that's entirely the point. Great twist even if you can see it coming.

Then we did a Cronenberg double bill, his first feature film Shivers, and his latest, Crimes of the Future. We're not counting the 1970 short of the same name.

Shivers holds up alarmingly well for a movie shot on a shoestring. It lays Cronenberg's foundation and you can see so much of his later work here - the little rubber parasites are still suitably gross to this day and the bathtube scene made my girlfriend squirm, which is a great thing for a nearly 50 year old movie to achieve!

Crimes of the Future is his return to body horror scifi after a 23 year break following eXistenz, and I'm so glad he's back. Even though the movie feels incredibly familiar across the board, he's still putting things on screen that nobody else would dare to, inventing concepts that Black Mirror can only dream of. The plot is largely a loose string of exposition dumps, but the ickiness on display made me feel right at home.

What We Do in the Shadows

Obviously a bit of a deviation from a standard horror movie, this one is from start to finish just a great flick. There is enough horror vibe that's spoofed here and there, with such great dialog and acting. Very much a great break from the 'hmm I want to shit my pants in fear tonight when I get up in the dark to go to the bathroom', highly recommend if you haven't seen it.

The Night House

Added this based on the summary alone, I really enjoyed it more than expected for a random pick. Some small bits of story had me head scratching, but there was some inventive 'reveals' of the antagonists at times and had some genuinely spooked out moments. Would recommend to those who enjoy slow building terror & tension.

I went in blind on this one in terms of the remake contents & quality, and compared to watching the original came out nearly as confused with parts of the story. For the critters I think they did a great job for the looks, but I can't help but think that the original captured the 'gritty dark' atmosphere in a way that the flashy hi-res effects fell a bit short of here. This was a good popcorn horror/gore movie, but not sure I'll put it on the regular re-watch list.

16. The Fly (1986) - ️️️️

A man tries to invent teleportation to change the world, and he would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for that damn meddling insect.

I forgot how grotesque the body horror is in this movie. Sone parts still make me squeamish to this day.

17. Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives -
️️️️

Tommy returns to Crystal Lake (sorry Forest Green) to destroy Jason's body and get rid of him once and for all. After a series of unfortunate events a resurrected and now supernatural Jason gets up to his old tricks.

18. Ghoulies II - ️️️

The ghouls are on the move, this time they find thoer way to a failing teavelling carnival.

Sadly, while better than the first it's still not great. Good soft horror for someone who wants to introduce older kids to horror movies I guess.

19. The Lost Boys - ️️️️️

A family moves to a new town after mom gets divorced and the older brother falls in with the wrong crowd (who happen to be vampires.)

Cool to see Christina Ricci in something, and the creepy atmosphere works in the first half, but I kinda messed up by jokingly guessing the big twist way too early. When the reveal came my wife was like "motherfucker!"

Went in blind and man this is an ugly low budget Mexican movie if I ever saw one. It's no El Mariachi that's for sure. The story is kinda cool, I always thought doppelgängers are creepy. There's also a weird amount of nudity. But in the end, it was just too cheap and gross. I've als seen the same theme done much better in the film Vinyan from 2008.

So, I didn't know this was a Shudder movie otherwise I would have skipped it, but it got a decent score and I think Maika Monroe is pretty cool. Also really liked the Bucharest setting. But the plot hardly works, in a way it demonstrates the opposite of a plot twist in the sense that everything is exactly as it seems, even if the movie has you thinking there could be something else.

14 - Mr. Harrigan’s Phone

An interesting thriller to watch with your girlfriend, it´s a Stephen King story. Could be better with more time and more character development.

15 - Friday 13th - Part 3

It´s not good as the first or second movie, there are some unecessary scenes or bad acting haha. Unecessary scenes of 3d too, but in general is watchable.

16 - The Faculty

Now this is pure gold, with Elijah Wood, Jordana Brewster and Robert Patrick, nostalgia totally hit me. I really like these 90's teens movies, specially horror.
If you are in your mid 30's you'll probably identify, remembering your youth hahaha, when it started with Offspring song I knew it was a great movie.

My favorite of the Friday movies. I love the supernatural vs supernatural aspect (same as Dream Warriors is my favorite Nightmare) It also has my favorite kill of the series in it.

21. Halloween IV: The Return of Michael Meyers -

10 years after the first Halloween Michael returns to finish what he started. While it never reaches the highs of the 1st it's better than 2.

October 1st - X
October 2nd - The Wretched

October 3rd - Suicide Forest Village

Apparently a follow-up to Howling Village which I didn't care for aside from the phone booth sequence. It's much better although the middle of the movie does drag. Maybe if the characters were more interesting it would have been less of an issue. Still, the movie does end strongly although they really need to quit with silly falling gag. It just looks bad every time they do it.

October 4th - Umma

Boring, insipid, derivative trash. Complete waste of my time.

October 5th - Maximum Overdrive

First 30 minutes of this were the perfect way to rebound from Umma. Just an absolutely gonzo start to the film that the rest of the film sadly doesn't match. Still had a good time with it even if the script is essentially a total afterthought. Wish more movies had the moxie this one did.

October 6th - Graveyard Shift

Nasty little film about killer rats with Douriff going above and beyond as a pest exterminator. Good effects and tons of memorable quotes and characters.

October 7th - Cat's Eye

A King anthology that again gets off to a fantastic start with the Quitters Inc. story which is just so snappy and full of punch with Woods and Co. really attacking the material. The other stories are good but they just had no chance of following that first story. The framing device is eh and I have no idea what Silvestri was doing with the score especially that main theme.

October 8th - Cat People

A real heart-breaking film that I haven't seen in decades. Loved every minute of it. This is the kind of slow burn I appreciate.

October 9th - The Incredible Melting Man

Pretty notorious film these days about a slowly melting killer astronaut. Great effects and I dug the characters for some reason but the actual melting man is the weak link. The actor does nothing to elevate the monster and the script doesn't give him much anyway. It's a bad movie sure but I can't really hate it.

October 10th - Halloween

Saw it with my brother since they were playing it at the local theatre. It was great as always. A lady groaned with immense annoyance when they showed a trailer for the new M. Night film which was a nice treat.

October 11th - I Know What You Did Last Summer

Watched this last year so not much new to say but the 4K release really is fantastic. If you like the movie be sure to get it.

22. Killer Klowns from Outer Space - ️️️

I don't know what I can add to this the title pretty much says it all. Pure 80s cheese. The clown designs are a great mix of funny/creepy and has some creative kills.

I still can't believe they are making a game out of this.

I think this is better than 3 and at the same level (or even higher) of 2. It's well done, good actors, totally different than 3. Good deaths too.

This movie remembers They Live, with some disgusting scenes hahaha. It start slowly and calm, but in the end it's more intense and worth the entire movie. Some good 80s.

Really fun slasher film that captures the 70's pretty well. Music was spot on and visually it's awesome. I very much enjoyed how Texas Chainsaw Massacre inspired it was with the setting and filming style. Cast was fantastic.

Gory fun time that doesn't take itself too seriously. Creative and fun kills. Foo Fighters in a horror movie was just awesome and Dave Grohl really was entertaining in the lead role. Perfect blend between horror and comedy.

Quite a few jump scares, but I actually thought some of them were done well here. It was a simple concept done well and with a pretty nice cast. Kyle Gallner is somebody I always enjoy seeing in horror films. It was a good time at the cinema.

October 12th - Vampire Hunter D

Been meaning to watch this forever and now that I have the Bu-ray I can so no reason to put it off any longer. It's pretty much got everything you want, hot chicks, whips, a cursed vampire hunter, and some good violence. No complaints here.

October 13th - Stay Out Stay Alive

A C movie that desperately wants to be a B movie. The actual story and direction isn't bad but the production values and acting let it down. It deals with some young adults stumbling on an abandoned gold mine cursed by an Indian tribe.

October 14th - The Mummy

The Universal original. It has its moments but in hindsight I think it would have benefited from being made a little later.

October 15th - The Mummy

The Hammer take which is a much more lavish production as expected. The mummy is more of a supporting role this time around but Lee does a lot with it with some great acting with just his eyes.

October 16th - Dark Glasses

Argento's new film available on Shudder. This is the first film since his downturn with where it feels like Argento is working within his means in terms of budget and scope. It's solid little movie with a larger focus on the characters than usual. Some great violence early and while the last act isn't super strong I still had a good time with it.

October 17th - Sleepy Hollow

Nothing new here just watching one of my favorite films

October 18th - Tremors

Haven't seen this in a while but still a really fun film. I need to track down the 4K release soon.

October 19th - The Fog

The new 4K releases is gorgeous which makes it even more depressing that the film isn't better than it is.

October 20th - Poltergeist

4K release is another looker. I always thought the movie came out later than it did. Honestly, I enjoy all three films. F*ck the reboot

October 21st - The Lost Boys

Another movie I haven't seen in several years. It's a little more scattershot than I remembered but I still really dug it. It really takes its time which I always appreciate.

October 22nd - The Curse of Frankenstein

Not my favorite of the Hammer Frankenstein films but I felt like sticking with Lee for the hat trick. Still as fantastic as ever.

October 23rd - Candyman

Usually I'd go with Suspiria for the Halloween season but I got the new 4K release and I really like Tenebrae anyway.

October 27th - Dracula Has Risen From the Grave

Very close to the perfect vampire flick for me. Just wish Dracula's resurrection wasn't so silly.

October 28th - Dawn of the Dead 3-D

Pretty decent 3D conversion. Some wonkiness but there is a lot of nice depth in the interior environments and some good pop out effects used sparingly

Not a horror film but I felt like giving it watch this year. Somehow, I always appreciate a little more every time I see it. Oh, and f*ck the reboot

Halloween - Halloween 4 and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark

Halloween 4 is my yearly tradition and Scary Stories is a nice lighter companion to it that will probably also be a yearly tradition going forward.
