Anyway, I got the Sennheiser HD203 instead after more research, for half the price of the DT235. I'll post impressions after I use them a bit.

The Sennheiser 650 is truly amazing - it gets more expensive with time. At the moment it's way too expensive for me (~ €350). Price development trolling.

What research? You picked an utterly mediocre set, over a very good one.

He'll probably like them, they are darker than I'd like, but I guess if he favors a deep bass range over a detailed mid-upper range then he'll probably like them.

I was namely looking for impressions of each pair and comparisons. I couldn't find any actual comparisons between the two. However, impressions (reviews) for each were good, the DT235 were only slightly better in that regard, and twice as expensive. Of course, what I mostly found was "these sound amazing" or "they have rich sound", but the problem is the definition of amazing sound changes according to the price you paid for it. The other place I "researched" is comparing the two headphones' specs, HD 203 here and DT 235 here. I ignored the "What we think" and value rating things there since their goal is to sell these things and they had nothing but good things to say about both of them. Instead, I looked at the spec sheets and the HD 203 seemed to perform better. I'm new to this, so I could easily have misread the information provided and picked the worse set.

I didn't bother asking for a comparison here since it seemed no one was willing to help me, which is fine.

I'll probably like any headphones that end up on my head to be fair. These are the first headphones I'm getting which I'm really going to pay attention to in sound quality, and I saved $25 over the DT235. Maybe I'm better off getting these "worse" headphones so when I can afford a newer, better set I'll enjoy the increase in quality.

So, half a year ago I inquired with BLOX about ordering a pair of TM5 from them. They said,

We hope we will have TM5 back in stock soon.
I will inform you,Once we have them in our stock.

Time passed, until today. I opened my mailbox, finding a new message from BLOX-sales inside.

Dear XYZ,
We are sorry to reply you very late.
TM5 will not be available again.
We are going to launch our new earbuds soon.
Did I mention that, to "compensate for the wait", I was offered a pair of those upcoming buds for free?

Aeyup ;-P

Expect an indepth review once I get them, facing off again AKG K-319 and Sennheiser MX-880 on a Matrix mini-i and various other sources.
For large scale testing, I'll take my M50 and the buds and head over to my local specialist high-end Grado retailer to really spice things up.
Finally, going against real boxes, Quadral Rondo-C and Dynaudio Focus-140 on a "whatever amp I'll have at the time, heavy flux" are there to rule the final verdict.

Only thing missing is the MX-980 but I really don't want to shell out for anything in that direction right now, my box-amp-quest eats heavily into my budget.

Looking forward to it :-D

I have a pair of LCD-2s waiting for me at the local fedex terminal. gonna try them out tonight. And it's the new driver revision with the leather headband as a bonus.

so stoked. I wonder how much of an improvement I will notice over the RS-2s and my recently sold D5000s....

(nice part about expensive cans is they hold amazing resale value if i want to get rid of them later on)

It actually... has gotten A LOT less expensive from the price it was originally introduced at.

On Wednesday I received my HeadONE from Trafomatic.
I still don't have my D/A converter but the improvement is noticeably audible. The first thing I noticed is how all the individual instruments come together and provide a very relaxing listening experience. I'm not sure if that is a good way to explain what is happening or not but it's nice...
Little details also stand out much more now as well. Surprisingly enough, I've really enjoyed listening to movies lately. The ambient sounds in Lost in Translation are AMAZING. I recommend giving it a listen!

When I get my DAC I'll post more impressions! For now here is a picture :)

My klipsch Image Ones came today. I'm really liking them so far. The sound is different than what I'm used to with the s4, being they are my first over ear kind. The sound somewhat airy, probably not the best word. But the s4's make it sound like the music is in my brain. The One's make it like the music is playing around me more. I was listening to Massive Attack and some of the sounds sounded like they were coming from different places, not just left and right.

I got in a pair of HJE-900s for my sister a few days ago, had a listen before sending them off. At the $100 I got them for, they are probably one of the absolute best bang for the buck IEMs I've ever experienced. Great sound, and a build quality that makes every other pair of IEMs I've ever owned seem like rubbish. Seriously, the detachable cables are a huge plus, and the zirconium shells seem nigh indestructable. The SM3s still eat them for breakfast in terms of sound, but they are still damned nice phones. Anyone looking for a nice pair of IEMs at the $100 point should start a WTB thread over at Headfi.

Not the biggest audiophile out there (taking a Production Sound class in film school right now...all the technical shit is making my head hurt), but I picked up Bose Quietcomfort 15's when they first came out and I think they more than do the job.

Sometimes, I swear I hear the producer in the other room flipping the pages of a magazine while the artist records their instrument.

I'm sure everyone here will cry foul and go all counter-conformist on me, but I think they're really good...

Anyways, my 2 cents. There sure are some stylish headphones in the OP, though.

Got the Monster turbines refurbished ones and I am very pleased with the results. They blow everything I had out the water but its not much of a comparison since I have never purchased expensive headphones/IEMs. I also got the AT AD500 for $30.00 from Walmart. Figure I could test them out maybe mod them a bit for not too much. Slowly but surely I'm joining the darkside.......please stop me, I don't want to be buying $500.00 headphones and amps.

Just got a Fiio bundle (e7 & e9), now Im waiting on my HD-650 to arrive, so excited.

Btw, if anyone is looking for 650s, you can get them off ebay from a Sennheiser-authorized seller for less than $350.

What are some options for lossless portable audio players that can do proper line-out?

Though I listen at home with my DAC/amp, it would be nice to not have to use my laptop all the time.

How the hell did you get them for that low, they normally go for over $200

so based on what ive read here im guessing i should i pick up hd555s for gaming and general usage? atm im considering getting em since im building a new computer and my only audio sources are $20 logitech speakers and the old px100s

also have some amazon gcs lying around that i was going to use on this falls games for consoles but im going to guess theyre better used towards new headphones and pc parts lol

Question to anyone who can answer this:

I currently lost my Apple in-ear earbuds with the remote - sound was meh (even after using some extra Etymotic triple-flange tips) but I loved the remote and am looking for a replacement set of in-ear earbuds with a remote.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I have some full-sized headphones that I'm using currently with my phone, but I'd love to have a remote again.

Thanks!

Sup Des, yeah, they are shockingly good at their price point. I started a WTB thread and got several offers in the span of a week. EricP (who is a long time member there) actually offered to sell them to me for 85+shipping. If you want them, I can refer you to him.

Well, I just lost my earbuds after 4 years of solid use. These are the buds I had, thought they had great sound quality. (Creative EP-630)

I'm contemplating either just ordering another pair, or picking up one of these alternatives:
Creative EP-830
Panasonic RP-HJE350-R
Sennheiser CX 270
Sennheiser CX-300B

I'd like to spend $30-$40 at most. I'm leaning towards the Sennheiser CX 300s because I have a set of Sennheiser headphones I got for cheap ($30) and was extremely impressed with their sound at that price. Plus I looked up some old GAF thread where a million people recommended the CX 300s.

Anyone have thoughts/anecdotes?

If you can do buds:

http://head-direct.com/product_detail.php?p=5

They sound 1000 times better than the EP-630s and CX 300s (Which sound about the same IMO). Of course it's a little bit harder to work out/run with the Yuin's but I'd still go with them instead. Makes the others seem like a ripoff.

Recently bought the Koss ProDJ100 (which is mainly used with my laptop) and wanted to know what is the best amp to buy for it in the $100 price range. I have been eying the FiiO E7 & Linearossa W1 and would love a recommendation.

I sometimes use my FiiO E5 but I bought that mainly for my PortaPros + Sansa clip+. Is the E5 good enough?

Thank you to anyone willing to help.

Edit: Decided to go with the E7 for my portable amp/dac needs.

Are the Sennheiser HD555s worth it at $95 US? If so, I might be able to convince myself to go higher then I intended on this expenditure.

Or I could get something cheaper such as the SR850s

If it needs to be a headset, I don't see many alternatives for $20.

So since the most I've ever spent on a pair of headphones was $25, I decided to get a pair of good, at home headphones for around $100. So I just ordered the Grado Prestige SR80i headphones. I read a couple other places, that highly recommended them. So how'd I do?

Awesome! You should give some impressions, I've been wondering what the W4 sounds like.

See my impressions linked below. Basically, if you don't EQ, they're solid, but do have a slight veil that clouds detailing a bit and a laid back not overly dramatic, smooth appeal. But they retain phenomenal balance, instrumental separation and a surprisingly wide soundstage for an IEM.

Post EQ though, they're a different beast altogether. They truly shine, with more impactful bass, more sparkly high's and a more musical presentation.

http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread...re-se535-comparison-will-update-as-i-go-along

I'm thinking of doing some video reviews as well, not sure yet, but no one seems to be doing detailed one's online these days.

If I had more money I'd grab myself an LCD-2 and maybe an SR-71B along with a Balanced cable upgrade. But that's in to the seriously high end of things (though still not the highest).

Headphone GAF, I need your help. Here's my situation:

I have a pair of Sennheiser RS120 wireless headphones. One side crapped out and no longer works and they are out of warranty. I got a repair estimate of $50 - $100. They were okay I guess, nothing spectacular, got the job done.

Now I originally got these headphones because I lived with roommates and wanted to lay on my bed while playing my PS3 at night without disturbing them. Since then, I have moved into a bachelor and picked up a proper audio receiver which has a headphone input on the front. Walking around the apartment listening to tunes in no longer a main requirement, though I still like to game with headphones at night so as not to disturb my neighbors.

Should I repair my Sennheisers or ditch 'em? I have $20 credit at Amazon.com and can replace them there for like 50 bucks.

or

Should I get a pair of wired headphones (preferably with a longer cable) for better quality out from my receiver. My receiver is like 1.25 meters from my couch, probably a little less.

I want to purchase via Amazon.com to use the credit and I want to spend around $100.

I've got a question, and I'm hoping someone has at some point experienced or tried this out. I'm trying to connect some headphones to my TV for night time gaming through RCA out - but I've tried two televisions and two headphones (well, one headphone and one earbud, both not the best quality), but I'm always hearing noise and rhythmic popping at medium to low volumes (360 dashboard or loading for example). Is it the 3.5 to RCA cables, or is it just not possible to get clean sound just by buying one adapter cable to a TV out?

Edit: Alright, so I ended up trying out a headset, and it works rather well when I turn down the headphone volume halfway and pump up the TV volume. What's the problem here? Any good recommendations for headphones with volume control?

I have these and I really like them. They fit nice, are not heavy and the mic works well. I did the KSC-75 mod to them (take out the drivers from the KSC-75 headphones and wire/glue them into the gamecoms) There is a lot of info about it if you google it - I also drilled some holes in them to make them sound a bit better. The headphones at this link are the better ones with open sides - When the KSC-75 driver was in there and no holes it had some echo.

Ill try and post pictures of mine later today

I'm looking for a set of mid-sized headphones. I'm thinking about getting the Macbook Air and would like a good set of headphones to go with it. I already have an ATH-AD700 for my computer and some Shure in ear headphones for my iPod and handheld game systems. Most important things for me would be comfortability and sound quality. Budget is probably at most $100.
