Last month we reported that over a dozen IMAX theaters around the world would be presenting Gareth Edwards’ Star Wars standalone movie in 70mm IMAX 2D film. While the movie was not shot using IMAX’s signature 70mm film cameras, Lucasfilm and Disney is presenting the film in the format in 15 theaters around the world. And for those of you lucky to see Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in this format, we have learned that Warner Bros is including a seven-minute long prologue for Christopher Nolan’s upcoming war film Dunkirk in front of the movie. Rogue One is a gritty war film, so this seems like a perfect fit.

I contacted Warner Bros and IMAX this morning to get official confirmation but have yet to get a response. So I’m not sure if this seven-minute preview will also be included on IMAX digital screenings in addition to the 15 70mm IMAX presentations. IMAX in the past has included some previews on their digital releases, but Nolan’s films have primarily focused on the large format film presentations. We will update and bump up this story if we hear back. Here is the list of IMAX theaters where Rogue One will screen in 70mm film projection:

Alabama
IMAX, US Space & Rocket Center
IMAX Dome, McWane Center

California

I'd rather just wait for the film itself.

Chances are this will affect a very small number of cinema goers anyway.

So after fifteen minutes of ads, i would have to watch seven minutes of a movie that's completely not what i've come to watch? And they think that making me wait longer for the movie i paid for will make me want to see their movie?

Get real.

Hey! I could actually go, to bad I have absolutely no interest in Star Wars or Rogue One.

Reminds me of when people use to buy tickets to see movie trailers and skip he actual movie

Nice, I will be seeing this then (had no idea). Pretty cool, not sure if I've ever seen so much of a film played as a preview before the main movie.

Watching 7 minutes of a film I can't then continue watching sounds like torture. That's something I would do to a friend if my goal was to be a dick.

Will watch handycam recording. The true way to first experience Nolan's trailers and prologues.

Give up the 70mm dream, Nolan. It was a noble cause to fight for, but you lost.

Give up the 70mm dream, Nolan. It was a noble cause to fight for, but you lost.

Interstellar had a pretty respectable roll-out on 70mm. Hell, even I managed to catch it in 70mm at one of those dine-in theaters near Atlanta.

7 minute preview of anything before the feature film? Like, no, please? Good grief, that's ridiculous. I don't go to the theater a lot (or ever), but I went for Episode VII, and there were 20 minutes of previews between the stated start time and the actual start of the film. Quite maddening. Just get on with it, already.

Take your trash comicbook movies, Star Wars movies, Disney live-action flicks and all other crappy blockbusters and away with you.

Nolan da gawd gonna show these amateurs how it's done.

Now now, I am sure the fine people who live near Kramer Imax in Saskatchewan will be happy lol.

The one time I don't regret living in the prairies....but it's still 3 hours away lmao

Haha, I've lived in Sask, still middle of nowhere!

I think the Science Center is the only legit 70mm here in Toronto, but they don't do regular movies lol.
