A Tour of Sonic Lost World - IGN

It's disturbing to see people say Nintendo is responsible for how cool this game looks when Sega has gotten their act together with Sonic Generations and Sonic Racing long before this partnership. This is just a continuation of great Sonic games, not a new beginning.
And how do you know they're part of the development process? All that's been announced is that Nintendo's publishing the next three Sonic games themselves, not SEGA. This could be Yasuhara's work for all we know.

I don't like how they aren't focusing on one style of gameplay. The second and third level being completely different from the first, which looks incredible. I wish every level focused on 3D platforming.
Yeah, that could be the bane of this game. I've no issue with it if they can keep consistent quality across the board, but that's not high on my list of possibilities. Still a lot of boosters and shit, too, though parkour and double-jump aren't as common as I thought they'd be (the bouncing-on-truffles in the second stage looks amazing—and important).

People act like Sonic has always moved at uncontrollable speeds. Sonic was originally all about being faster than Mario but still with a sense of control which looks to be the best 3d representation here.
This. Sonic's always been a more physics-based version of Mario, even as the Mario influence got more and more diminished in the 3D games. It's a good thing they're acknowledging the advances made by the Galaxy games, since speed toggling, less pervasive homing-attack bridging, and more emphasis on platforming and multiple paths are all great things.

Wii U version at 60fps? Fucking eye candy, in that case :D

Looks like it! Next-Gen graphics if they lock it, the game is just a minor step down from Unleashed/Gens, and those were 30 frames. I would think that Unleashed and Gens would look hella worse if they were 60 frames (note, '06 was 60).

Where are the Rankings? I want speed-based rankings and not to collect some animals >.<

Wow, I watched the 3DS footage before OP clarified which videos were which. I had no problem thinking that was console gameplay. Pleasantly surprised by this.

Transitioning to the different zones looks weird though.

I would say that it is the game loading the level in, especially in the 3DS ver.

I like how each level seems to have small little things to do aside from actually completing them. Collecting the animals, hitting the numbers for a 1-up, grabbing the bell, all look like fun little diversions to enjoy. Those are the type of things that I enjoy in, say, the NSMB games, like collecting red coins for a 1-up and such. They're not imperative to the level design, but they're fun and feel good to do.

This looks really good. THIS is the speed I want Sonic at. I fucking hate hate hate how much they've sped him up over the years.

Even the auto-running level looks more like a natural progression of the Sonic 2 bonus stages than the crap I can't stand in modern 3D Sonic games.

Slower Sonic > Faster Sonic

Also does anyone else still find it weird that there is going to be a (mainline) Sonic game exclusive to Nintendo platforms? I know a lot has changed from the 90's, but still...just can't get over that!

My thoughts exactly. The Genesis games weren't all that fast either -- actually, whenever I see someone trying to play the old 2D games who started playing Sonic with one the 3D games, they are left behind totally confused since there are almost no full-speed passages and a lot of plattforming.

This looks really good. They're finally doing to Sonic what Nintendo did to Mario 17 years ago: turning him into an athlete. :lol Sonic being a parkour runner simply makes sense, just like Mario being a world-class gymnast. Giving the player more precision than ever before over this movements is fantastic too. I hope these ideas stick with Sonic for the long haul.

I like that Sonic looks like he moves around really zippy and tight. I don't like how jumps have no momentum. You can just drag him around in the air mid-jump. Parkour system looks fun.

The 2D section was awful. Awkward platforming. It looked just like colors and that's not a good thing.

The third section, "Mach Speed", looked stupid. Why force it? Why not leave it up to the player with the new movement system you implemented? What's the damn point of giving better control if you're going to take it away for an entire level?

Are we going to see more levels like the first one? Those are the only ones I care about.

"Despite the fact that development of Lost World began before Sonic Team even knew about Wii U"

Looks like it started as a Wii title.

Whoa. Looking pretty great there, Sonic.
I am a little confused with what beehives and sweets have to do with a desert zone, however.

Just damn, both versions are looking really good, and the Windy Hill music reminded me of the violin from Windmill Isle. PLEASE let this demo hit the eShop. It'd be cool if it was one of the Best Buy demos, but closest one is over an 1/2 hour away from where I lave.

Some thoughts on the various footage...

Wii U version

- That shortcut in the sweet stage wasn't even hinted at by like one ring down the pit to indicate that throwing yourself down might herald a reward, this is some DKC1 shit and not superior secret placing DKC2, bad move.

I caught a glimpse of it before hand, look at the footage again.

This was one part that concerned me, I do not like the idea of having mach speed forced on the player. The idea that they slowed down game play is completed defeated if they still throw forced speed at players, whether it be just one level every and now and then is irrelevant.

I imagine it really just comes down to the fact that holding a trigger for the entirety of a level would become tedious.

This game looks like it has the potential to move some WiiU units.
And if you don't like it, you can always resell it.

I agree, the second level looked like Sonic Colors thrown together level design and awkward platforming. The first level looked the best.

Wait a second, why is Desert Ruins made of god damned candy in the WiiU version, whilst it's in a temple (presumably in a, I dunno, desert) in the 3DS ...

oh, wait a second. Desert. Ha, very well done.

In the IGN interview they said that each act will look significantly different so we could see a level like that in the WiiU ver or a Candy level in the 3DS one.

Am I the only one who felt that the 2D level looked better than anything in Colours? Didn't look as finicky to me, problems with those truffles aside.

Nope. Sonic adventure for gamecube was my first ever sonic game. I think I've only ever owned sonic for nintendo plaftforms. the 16 bit era console war is dead.

Both versions look like fun. Will probably get both when I get their respective platforms. I hope the majority is the "sonic galaxy" levels and that the 2d stages are just an interlude that is there for variety.

I actually really liked the larger "planet" of the 3ds footage. Feels a little bit more like a cohesive level. That's one thing I hope to see out of super mario U: more cohesion.

I have been completely sold on the Wii U game. Looks like a complete blast.
On the graphics department I guess it gets the job done but nothing to be amazed at really.

Happy to have a Wii U. Happy times coming..

Now lets look at the 3DS footage....

Amazing also. IGN says both versions are different, 3DS version not a port of the Wii U version.
