No point in that, if you want to jail the person for life just have them executed. Prison is supposed to be for rehabilitation.

Some people are still lunatics even after years, if not tens of years of attempts to rehabilitate. You don't just kill them in that case. Sometimes life behind bars is the safest thing for society, and most humane way to deal with someone inhumane.

The only debate should be around how much of a danger you need to be/pose to be given life, and whether or not a life sentence at the time due to severity can be cut back if the best psychologists and other minds can aid in rewiring your brain/thoughts.

We tend to be talking about tiny percentages of people here, and no, the answer isn't just to kill them. At least not as seemingly casual as that statement you made as if all life sentences should just be executions?

Things have been worse, sure. The chart shows small numbers of terrorism deaths aside from Madrid in 2004 and then giant spikes in 2015 and 2016 (which isn't pictured)

Just because things were once worse doesn't mean there hasn't been a significant uptick in the past few years.

Largely singular events followed by a lot of nothing.

Go out, have a beer, enjoy life and carry on with your day. Otherwise they have won.

Pictures floating around of victims' bodies torn completely apart, be careful if you don't want to see that kind of thing.

Sadly just seen this, I hope they didn't suffer.

WTF is wrong with people photographing this though? Disgusting

Does it really surprise you? Everyone and their mother have a camera phone, taking pictures is part of human nature, I would take pictures too, to preserve and document.

Call it old-fashioned, but I think it's wrong to take and distribute pictures of dead pedestrians. Respect the innocent victims.

Fuck, again?. One tends to worry about how they will get weapons or explosives but in the end all it really needs is some asshole on a vehicle.

Was there a few months ago with a friend, I even recognize the streets. Lovely city and really friendly people.

My thoughts go out to the victim and their families.

Of a body ripped apart? Yeah, I want loads of pictures like that.

It's completely disrespectful imo, imagine a relative seeing that?

All of this is hyperbole. There's a bigger chance of slipping in the bathtub and killing yourself than dying in a terrorist attack.

I mean, did any of you live during the 70's and 80's? Because terrorist groups were having a field day back then across Europe.

The only difference is that islamic terrorist tend to favour mass attacks that create more casualties in a single event, but it really feels like nothing compared to the continuous dripping of shootings and car bombs we had back then. I've never felt safer.

How many in the 70s and 80s were just people gunned down in a night club, stood on a promenade, walking around a city centre and how many were somehow related to the factions of Ireland and the Basque region, politicians and soldiers outside of the Panam flight. If most are centred around two specific regions then it' s a lot different to the whole of Europe anytime anywhere.

Unless you work for the authorities or are a journalist, this is useless. Your photos are crappy, it serves no purpose and sharing it is disgusting to the relatives of the victim.

You must hate museums? So much disrespect

You've got to be kidding me.

A coroner will document the scene.

Maybe ordinary people could not blast graphic pictures of deceased, innocent loved ones over social media? It's not like there'll be a shortage of pictures in the modern age where virtually everyone carries a camera around. Show some respect.

As an archaeologist and working with culture heritage I must say you have a very wrong image of how a museum works and how exhibitions are planned.
images of people and human remains are a very complex matter.
It's not as simple as you think, many ethical issues we deal with.

RAF/Germany comes to mind. I also seem to remember some deaths in Italy back in the 70s.

Some of the pictures going around.... fuck. I wish I never saw them...

I can't believe there are website posting that shit on their front pages. Have some fucking respect. :-(

Swede here.
This is horrible.
This is the time to come together. We cant cower in fear and we cant be swallowed by anger. The best way to fight this, the most powerful weapon, is being together and accepting of each other.

I know. Here's some pictures of bodies that will still be warm, or people possibly in the process of fighting for their lives *mass retweet/post all over news sites*.

You can't stop it on twitter these days but it's incredibly distasteful when news sites do it.

The graph also excludes 2016

Just did a quick rough count and it's around 256 (maybe a lot more) with France having the biggest attack on its soil since WWII. These are all everyday people.

So we have 2015 and 2016 back inline with the 70s and 80s, don't think it's reason to be chipper about.

What also seems to be omitted when people claim you're more likely to fall of a ladder so don't concern yourself with terrorist attacks and Islamic extremists is the amount that get stopped and the billions spent, it's a huge undertaking every minute.

Germany and Italy also had to deal with their own terrorist groups.

Right. We've been drinking in the office and playing Rocket League. Now going to go and see if anywhere is open to get food and/or go home.

This. Can't wait to go back shopping in Stockholm soon. Great city aside from it being a bit too crowded for my tastes every once in a while.

Just got back home after spending a 3 hour walk getting out of the city. I was contemplating not going to work today due to not feeling well but eventually decided against it, which I regret now. And my legs are probably going to regret it even more after waking up tomorrow.

I'm about a 100 meters from where it happened, in a hotel after my train was canceled, having a beer.

Still feels like these fuckers are winning. Everything just feels slowed down, even the cars on Sveavägen seem to move slower than usual.

Then again, someone just walked by with dancing steps, so anything can happen I suppose.

Driving home or public transport? Public transport might be restricted.

On another note I didn't know Swedish-GAF was so populated. There's literally dozens of you.

Nice to see the calm, instead the wild calling for blood.

Still alot of posts on FB of people offering help, now people volunteer to drive folks home whom might have missed connections.

Public transport is operational.

I'm a bit confused by these security lockdowns. Do these attacks tend to happen as a chain of events or is this just standard procedure regardless of actual follow-up threat levels?

Minus the central station if I'm not mistaken.

Just went through it with subway, the commuter trains might still be standing though. Had some great beer and pizza with some friends just now, fuck the terrorists, rest in peace to the victims.

The way some expert explained it earlier it's in case of shootouts between police and suspects. They don't want any civilians around if it would come to that, so the best option is to shut everything down while the perpetrator is at large.

But again, suggested to find other means of transport, and nobody is recommended to go into central Stockholm.

Yea. The two most central stations are closed down.

Right now everything is closed and the police needs to do their job. So let them. Keep away if possible.

This is some really scary shit. First Nice, then London, and now Stockholm. You can ban all the weapons you want (or make them incredibly hard to obtain), but a normal vehicle? You can't pre-empt that shit and you can still cause massive damage and loss of life. I mean, being realistic, it's still less scary than a couple of guys mowing down people in a nightclub with assault rifles (for example), but cars and trucks are infinitely more accessible and it could just seemingly happen out of the blue.

RIP to the victims.
