The Xbox One is behind because of a myriad of reasons, the price being the most obvious of all. There a lot of people non enthusiasts that were aware of the anti-consumer plans, some of those weren't even aware Microsoft went backwards on those plans.
But that's besides the point. Regardless if many or few people actually still care if they're being/were being ripped off, doesn't make the discussion and preoccupation around it any less valid. People expecting failure and mediocrity NOT to be rewarded and not to be an example have all the right to hope the company is punished by the market (even if it will probably won't be).
Calling people/companies/organizations for their bullshit should never, ever be compared to fanboyism.
Actually there's probably a lot of cases where a company has fallen out of favor for one reason or another. Microsoft's probably the biggest example recently, many of those who are the hardest on XB1 were likely also hard on Sony when the PS3 launched and were more favorable to some extent of the 360 at least until recently. Microsoft definitely wore me down over the years until they just blew it all up with the XB1 reveal anyway, at this point they have a lot of ground to cover and I probably won't be as positive about them as I was during the initial 360 years, and even during the Xbox years they weren't my FAVORITE platform but I liked it enough. My only explanation for system wars is some can't get every system. Devalue or insult what you can't afford. Maybe just people wanting to feel like they are part of winning team?
"It's disgusting that Microsoft see's fit to release a console that only does this for this much" and sentences in the same vein are ridiculous.
Don't like it? Don't buy it.
Microsoft's previous DRM attempts too much for you? Then don't buy the Xbox One.
Getting bored of the annual Call of Duty? Don't buy it.
Don't go out of your way to criticise, attack and mock anyone else because they purchased something that you don't consider worth 'your' money.
The art of saying "It's not my kind of thing" and letting someone else enjoy what they bought are long gone.

Similar to Wii U users hyping up a mediocre Lego title because it's exclusive amirite?
I kid I kid, everyone's got their bias but some people just hide it a little better than others![]()
The Lego game definitely got more attention than it otherwise would have, or more than Lego games generally do. I have no idea whether it was deserved or not though.
It's just people passionate about their hobby. Same with sports.
I only 'console war' against fanboys. I cannot stand that. I am an adult, I own everything except for a vita and I honestly probably bought an Xbone due to all the ridiculous hate.
Fix that. Immediately.

I think it's a mix of tribal identity and a lack of individual personal qualities that allow for a lot of room for the tribal identity to fill. Pretty much like how some (not all) religious people and atheists become their belief, and every moment of their life is spent rambling on about how they're so damn correct.
It's less of a console war and more people arguing about their opinions at this level. Owning all doesn't mean you're free of preference, and people argue about their preferences all the time, in everything.
Because Sega does what Nintendon't.
backlash against great injustice
Listening to old 1up podcasts, and it seems like the argument for console wars is because kids can only afford one console and gotta feel defensive about their purchase?
I know gaf audience is mostly of the older crowd who has jobs who probably can afford all the consoles and maybe even a pc too (layoff italian meals), so what motivates you to war? exclusives? suckered into marketing? bored at work and need to vent on something?
I mean sony and ms are about the same 'evil', one just has a better marketing strategy today. this can easily change.
move zig move zig move zig move zig
you know what you doing
take off every zig

Done by the third post. The call of console war is too easy and is bandied about anytime someone disagrees with someone else.
In a partially ideal world, everyone has three consoles and every dev develops for all consoles. But we can't expect that. People will often have to choose. When you and your friends go into a console cycle, which console do you buy? When your company picks a console to dev for, which console do you pick?
People argue for fun and argue to justify their purchases, but the reason people argue is because decisions have to be made.
Some victims need a hero.
And some fans are the worst, who could do with some tickling.
The way I look at it is, the only person you should be justifying a purchase to is yourself, who gives a crap what strangers buy?
I get the "fun" aspect of console wars but to me it's boring now, one person unwilling to accept criticism whilst attacking the competition versus the other person doing the same thing. The ones taking it to heart have a severe lack of perspective of life.
