I've been playing GH: Aerosmith today and Neversoft is really improving with the GH series. GH:WT pales in comparison to RB2, but I think I'm going to buy the game. Hopefully the ION kit and RB2 instruments are compatible.

Still gets my money, sadly.

Yeah the game still looks like ass in every which way. Tunes looks great though, and so does the guitar, even though it makes using the guitar way too easy. Other than those though GHWT doesn't look like it has much going for it, unless that is they suddenly release some type of megaton in the coming weeks.

Yeah, even with character creation, everyone still looks like weird half melted muppets.

I'm still on the fence with GHWT, because there's no way I'm buying ANOTHER set of plastic drums, considering how strapped my living room is for space already.

New GH:WT video. just incase inquiring minds wanted to know. ;)

Drums look hot, though I'm a little worried about the cymbals. They look like they would snap if it takes some serious hitting. A plastic instrument can only take so much abuse.

The guitar definitely looks cool. I'm still skeptical about the need for touch-sensitive frets.

I'm definitely getting the stand alone GH:WT game, but I think I'll have more than enough to drum to with Rock Band 1 + 2 + DLC.

I still want to know if they fixed the drum fill length (fills should end on beat 1 not on 4) and if the system lag has been removed from drum fills. Its annoying to get everything synched up right for your a/v lag then to suck as at fills because it applies the same lag to those/

Here are new the songs I got to try today -- the build they have at E3 has 25 of the Rock Band 2 songs.

"Tangled Up In Blue" -Drums
"Ace of Spades" - Vocal (fits my bad voice perfectly)
"Pump it Up" -- Vocal
"White Wedding" -- Guitar (but this one is damn fun to sing along with -- it'll be the Creep of Rock Band 2)
"Psycho Killer" -- Drums

We were playing with a "no fail" cheat, which I personally love for party situations. No bummer failures to ruin the mood.

Also: The folks from Harmonix are super-duper, ultra-cool. So nice. Or maybe I'm drunk. But I'm thinking that it's both. Me drunk, them cool.

How will the drums work? Need the cymbal expansion perhaps?
Kholer pointed out in the GHWT thread that so far this is ONLY for 360, and that the chart will shrink to four pads if you're using the RB sets. Presumably the cymbals expansion will have no effect on this as Neversoft doesn't have access to them nor know how they will interface. But really, who knows?

They could always work with Harmonix on a patch ;)

Wow at compressing it just for RB drums. It'd be nice if they could get compatibility with the cymbal addon though so then you can get the full experience and still only have one drum kit.

Wow, kudos to Activision/Red Octane. A step in the right direction, but sad it's only for 360 owners. Luckily I'm getting these games for 360.

The challenges can be as simple as beating some songs or it can require you to average a certain number of stars or to beat the set list without using overdrive or anything else Harmonix can dream up. This is a great way to integrate DLC into World Tour and should make for a far more stimulating campaign to become rock legends.
Not gonna happen with my finicky Les Paul! That thing just activates SP whenever it feels like sometimes. Looks like I'll be doing those challenges on vocals or drums.

I'm pretty sure they would just take away all the star power notes.

Then I've got no problem with that.

That would be kind of awesome for drums as there would be no fills and therefore you could play the whole chart.

That's pretty cool that Activision even supported that. Thumbs up to them.

They weren't pro-active about it, they were forced to do it. That's exactly why they won't be doing the same for the PS3.

Then why do they block the PS3 RB instruments??

I agree, though. I would buy the guitar hero games if I could use my instruments with them. But, since I can't, I haven't.

is pro active enough to convert the charts to 4 notes and a pedal to support rockband drums

Now Rock Band 2 needs to support the superior looking drums of GHWT. That is what gets me to buy them both. Although now I'm actually thinking of picking up GHWT instead of just RB2.

Well Micrsoft forced "standardization" has actually done some good.

All RB2 instruments WILL work with GH:WT.

Posted in the GH thread but good news for potential RB2 owners as well.

Jesus, this just made my day. Just earlier I was watching those "create a song" videos on IGN and contemplating getting the GHWT pack, now I can just get the game and enjoy both with a full band!

Also, if the guitar proves better in GHWT, I might end up getting that standalone later down the line to replace my aging Xplorer.

I'm guessing that the GHWT drums will work for RB2 on the 360.

Because everyone hates the PS3 and especially M3wThr33.

So when Rock Band charts a "Tom" drum sound and you hit the crash cymbal, you won't have a problem with that?

Honestly, as cool as the GH:WT drums look, they have limitations. The decision to make everything mapped to an actual pad means a tom or cymbal sound can be charted there and it won't be weird. But using the GH:WT drums on Rock Band, sometimes you will end up playing "tom" sounds on a cymbal.

It'll be interesting to see how it will work out anyway.

If I had to guess, the songs they have for the demo probably don't cover all the tiers of difficulty. I'd be really surprised if they went through such a huge reshuffling of difficulty when they have a solid system in place already.

As for the dots, the video with Ace of Spades had red marks that went over the dots to signify that the song was more challenging than other ones rather than clutter up the interface by just having it longer than 5 dots. Which, now that I think about it, could suggest a new tier since you can theoretically go up to 10....

I loled in real life :lol

Would be awesome if the different instruments would work on the PS3 version as well, but I kinda already know this will never happen, so instead of GH:WT its just really GH4 for me :lol

Sure. +1 sale to me now. This will give them their install base for the next iteration where they can sell new improved instruments where people that love GH will go. Right now, it's kind of up in the air for some if it's even worth buying their whole pack.

Actually, that video pretty much confirms a 7-tier difficulty tree. Songs can be no dots, 1-5 black dots, or 5 red hearts(?). The guy scrolls through tons of known RB songs, and all of thier difficulties are arranged as such.

Personally, I don't mind a melding of a few difficulty tiers.

"One of our new ways of experiencing your music library has something targeted explicitly towards players that want to sing and play guitar."

This was on IGN a few weeks ago, but I haven't heard anything about it since then. I mean, I guess it isn't a major feature or anything, but what's going on? Scrapped feature that someone mentioned because they didn't know any better? Band Challenge? Something that just hasn't been announced yet?

Can't say I'm super-psyched about it (despite my love for these games I don't like to sing and I loathe not only Karaoke, but also the karaoke games... who knew my loser friend's obsession would come back to haunt me via Rock Band?!?), but it does sound like an interesting feature and the ability to get some of my friends to double-up (including the one who both plays guitar and sings and knows what the hell she's doing) or even to just screw around with it would be nice.

More importantly, if this is going to be offered, why no mic stand? I mean, maybe not in the box, but I think they're definitely missing out by not trying to offer a branded one. Maybe as part of some sort of "frontman" mic/stand combo pack for standalone sales.

from the blog post yesterday, it seems like it's going to be some kind of challenge. likely singing and playing guitar with the same character (using a mic stand or headset). just guessing, but they posted an image yesterday of a guy with a mic and guitar and said it was related to one of the challenges in the game.

Yeah, I just went back to yesterday and noticed it. Damn. Now I feel like that guy.

Kind of odd to do it just as a challenge. I mean, won't that require extra code in the engine to accomplish, i.e. using the same avatar both playing guitar and singing? Wouldn't that also require new animations to pull off effectively?

Also, no love for the bass? Dammit... I mean, I guess I'm used to be singled out and ignored in the real world, but for Harmonix to keep doing it in the games, well, bassists don't need any more feelings of inferiority and persecution.
