Leenzee's debut Soulslike, set in the ancient kingdom of Shu during the late Ming Dynasty, launched to "Overwhelmingly Negative" reviews on Steam, the lowest possible score you can get on the platform. Players decry that it's just "another UE5 stutter fest", reporting that while it might be "fun", the performance is so bad that they're either refunding the game or putting it down until it gets fixed.

Wuchang Fallen Feathers? More like Wuchang Fallen Performance.

  • "Yet another clunky UE5 souls-like that runs like a** and feels like you're wearing ice skates," one review reads.

"The game is actually pretty fun, but performance really really needs work - got to the point where it actively made gameplay horrible. Refunded for now," another says.
  • "I love how the first boss is the loading screen and I can't beat the boss of the shaders compiling," another complains.

"Game did not play well on my 40 series card. Screen tearing and black screens with stutters. Game needs to be optimized

"Another UE5 Stutter Fest": Hit New Soulslike With Over 100,000 Players Launches To "Overwhelmingly Negative" Reviews

A Brief Statement from Leenzee Games and 505 Games.

First of all, we want to extend our most sincere thanks to everyone who supports and follows our game. It means a lot to us.

We have received reports regarding issues such as the game's optimization not meeting expectations, errors in distributing pre-order rewards, and some abnormal pricing. These problems should never have occurred, and we deeply regret the inconvenience and negative experience some players are currently facing.

Regarding Optimization Issues

We are confident in the game's performance within our recommended spec but we're working on optimization. We are looking to issue a patch as soon as we can.

In the meantime, if you are experiencing issues, you can try adjusting settings through our FAQ: https://support.505games.com/support/solutions/150000215541

If the issues persist, please submit a ticket via support.505games.com to provide your feedback. Our customer service team will assist you in resolving the problems as soon as possible, and your reports will help us identify and fix issues quickly and efficiently.

Regarding Pricing Errors

We are aware of some pricing anomalies in some regions. We are currently working with Steam to restore the correct pricing.

Regarding Pre-Order Reward Errors

The root cause is a bug in the reward distribution for the Standard and Deluxe editions, which prevented players from receiving the correct items. We are fixing this issue in the upcoming patch.

As a token of our appreciation, we will give all players who purchase the game on Steam a free digital copy of the original soundtrack. We will look to process refunds of all those who have already purchased the soundtrack via Steam.

Additionally, in future updates, players who buy the Deluxe Edition will receive a brand-new exclusive costume, (please understand that this may take some time.)

We are fully committed to investigating and resolving these issues as quickly as possible. Our team is prioritizing these problems at the highest level, striving to fix and handle everything promptly to ensure you have the best possible gaming experience.

We are also continuously gathering and organizing bug reports and suggestions shared within the community. We sincerely ask for your patience, understanding, and support during this process. Once again, we hugely appreciate all of you.

Warm regards,

the game in thread title would be nice. Took me a minute to even figure out what we're talking about.

It's weird to hear about these issues because in the OT everyone is saying the game runs fine

I plan on checking it out tonight given that it's on gamepass. I'm not super into this genre so if it runs like shit, I will probably skip.

I played about 30 minutes of it and it is shameful that it was launched this way. I have a very good pc and with dlss quality and frame gen x2, I get between 70-80 fps.

That doesn't sound too awful, until you turn the camera and the world moves at a different frame rate, is stuttering like hell, has visual breakup, and actually gave me a slight headache / motion sickness. When I move the character, she has so much visual glitches too. Also, if you use FSR you can't use HDR as it disabled frame gen, but seems to work with dlss.

For the overall performance, it has some hard stuttering and frame drops. It also gets big hitches now and again that last for like a second.

I had a feeling that this game being about £28 on cdkeys was actually not a good sign. Game should've been delayed, but like that ever happens in the last 10 years.

At some point we're going to have to start shifting some of the blame for these on developers. Yes, UE5 has stuttering issues. But there's no way a publisher/studio looks at this and thinks "we did all we could here".

People need to take pride in their work, and that's just not happening here.

UE5 has become a deterrent rather than a selling point by the looks of it. Why is UE5 continually producing shit performance and all kinds of issues. At the beginning I started thinking that perhaps it's just developers, it's starting to seem more like an engine thing.

How is it running on consoles? Same shit or is it better?

UE5 just can't make a stably performing game. They will keep on using it though because executives are lemmings who always just out of the pack just before they all fall off the cliff.

Executive pay should be tied to game revenue not investment revenue. As in, the game has to make money for them to be paid.

I'm not talking about anything particularly punitive. They should just get a lump sum after shipping a project that either pays a flat rate for services rendered or pays that plus bonuses for better than expected performance.

Work for you (potential) future but don't lose your shirt in the process.

1) Unreal Engine 5 sucks. Is it dev error that's causing the stuttering? Maybe. But if it's happening to almost everyone (and it is), it becomes the engine's problem.

2) China has great artwork and no goddamn creativity. As usual.

This is the reason that Intel CPUs are now trash. I know because I own one. But they're never getting my money again. I don't care what they "fix". The trust has been broken and I'm going to AMD for my next PC.

Stuttering has always been a major problem with unreal engine. You can go back as early as UE2 and it has the same issue. People keep saying they're gonna fix it but this has been going on for decades no matter what iteration of unreal they released.

Not nearly to this extent, though. I think it took a turn for the worse in UE4, but then shit the bed completely with UE5. Part of that's due to DX12 and part of it's due to the newfangled need to precompile shaders... but it's a big step down either way. I don't recall there being anywhere near this sort of aversion to previous versions of Unreal in regards to performance - the pushback was typically that all the games that shipped on it were just brown and gray.

Performance is fine if played how it's supposed to be played at 30fps on console, looks a gen better too.

lmao all you framerate dweebs do nothing but constantly complain about performance, in every single game - cant enjoy shit

Anyone got any numbers on how it runs on a 3080 (non ti)?

Currently playing Lies of P and actually really digging it, but I like the setting of this one even more and had it wishlisted. Would be a shame though if it didnt run well.
