You should really watch the movie before you post

Sorry to meses with your beloved mcu.

The heist consisted in a solo mission and punching bad guys. And then we have the expected qte sequence with his child on danger.

Entertaining yes. But ultimately a typical super hero origin.

Would have preferred a Hank Pym origin or a more comic centered film.

I thought that was supposed to be foreshadowing Tilda Swinton's character (the Ancient One, I think?) from Doctor Strange.

It could be! I just feel like there's shadows behind the figure that are semitransparent to insinuate wings. I saw some article somewhere about it and it looks like it could be quite a few people, heh.

So Wright bailed because he wanted Ant-Man to die when he went subatomic, right?
That's the only "big" scene that I thought Marvel and Wright could have had such differences over that he would quit.

That scene wasn't even in the script when Wright was directing, neither was the scene of Janet doing the same.

At first I assumed it was the Falcon scene but apparently that was Reed's idea. I think much of it could be Wasp, if I remember rightly Wasp and Hope both had a much smaller role in Wright's original script but were expanded by the rewrites.

Wait, is the script available for reading somewhere? I quickly googled to no avail, just comments from the new director and Whedon.

Sadly not (doubt it ever will be to be honest), the closest we have at the moment is Peyton Reed's interviews where he's addressed a few things.

Ok, maybe I understand it wrong but I thought they said your mass stays the same but your atoms change positions making you smaller. So you weigh the same but are just tinier? If that is true, wouldn't that be a LOT of weight on Michael Pena's shoulder?

Also, wouldn't the increased ant and increased train car be VERY light? Would it really have been the weight of a real train?

Well, maybe Pena's character is stronger than he looks. He did knock a couple of dudes out in one punch

Saw it yesterday, and it was pretty good. Didn't think I'd like Rudd in the lead, but he managed to pull it off.

And my theater started getting excited over the Spider-Man mention. One thing that didn't dawn on me until afterwards was the connection between the alternate dimension that Scott and Wasp 1 go through tying into Doctor Strange. Going to be very interesting to see how that plays out.

And exactly what the hell was going on with Cap, Winter Soldier, and Falcon? They just happened to find Bucky down there?

I think it's pretty clear that Wright didn't bail because of any specific plot element, but because he realized he didn't want to direct a film which he would not have complete control over.

Falcon Knew a guy!

Bucky's arm was in a vice right? so maybe they wanted to do something to it? so perhaps they knew a guy who could go inside mechanical suits and operate on them from the inside, perhaps thats why they'd want Ant-man then - it was my flash assumption at the time

as for Wright's involvement, from all the interviews it seems he didn't like the idea of an over arching universe and his vision for the movie would have been so disconnected it wouldn't have worked - maybe he wanted scott pilgrim style zappps and powwws put in there? maybe he wanted to completely not reference any Marvel characters at all and mention his own made up ones - we'll likely never know

Yeah, there were a ton of flaws with the whole "weight and strength stays the same " thing. Pym carried a tank in his pocket and Lang was able to knock Cross into a bug-zapper with a ping-pong paddle, among others.

Suspect Wright realised as duckroll says that he wouldn't have much control, imo the main reason being that he likely thought Ant Man to be an offshoot to try something a bit alternative but found it was very much a 'phase' movie in the Marvel arc; so he was constrained to a basic formula.

He was probably not expecting Marvel to be firing Ant Man up as another part of the main rooster; which is sort of my view as well. Nothing wrong with side characters and films that are not part of the central MCU universe, in fact its healthy to have characters in that universe not being planned or having to interact with other major characters.

Mass does not equal weight, although they could have explained how being tiny does not affect mass but somehow affects weight. Considering that earth gravity would pull the same mass all the same.

You know how Cap' shield can bounce on things and how Iron man is not reduced to pulp when he's hit very hard ? Same thing here.

Saw it last night, really enjoyed it, although the Quantum Zone stuff was super weird.

Wait till they decide to go in the opposite direction.
Get so large so fast you enter the realm of abstract entities.

On Topic

Part of me was hoping we would see Microverse(underspace) Janet when Scott super shrank, maybe he could have just heard her talking or something, cuz if she didnt overide the shrinking she got as small as small gets i guess, he managed to i guess get control and go back to size.
But we all want to see Microverse Janet

I just read this from the Ant-Man IMDb page:
In an interview, Peyton Reed admitted that the reason Edgar Wright left was because he wanted to make the film's story to be about an ant who is given the power to become a man, instead of a man becoming the size of an ant.

Er what, I thought Wright like AntMan comics, why the hell is his idea seems so far removed from the comic it's based from.
What in the... There's no way he could've thought this would work.
Eh, I believe it could work somehow, it just wouldn't be an Ant-Man movie. Shouldn't it be called Man-Ant or something...

IMDB is user-edited... Come on people. Use your heads.

All the casting was done under Wright. Test footage that shows action scenes very similar to what we got in the final film, including the costume, were directed by Wright.

My memory is a little fuzzy, but isn't yellow jacket supposed to be an antihero and not out and out villain?

Also really disappointed they killed yet another villain. They really have to stop doing that. It's cutting their villains roster awfully thin.

Here's my take on rationalizing the science of this movie:

They specifically say they are reducing the distance between atoms

Maybe that's what they "think" is happening. I believe in the comics they suggest that matter is instead being shunted and pulled from another dimension.

They specifically say that shrinking increases strength and density

This is the biggest flaw. Clearly if he weighed the same as an average sized man he wouldn't be able to ride on the backs of ants and be sucked up by a Hoover vacuum. If the prior assumption is true, that would at least alleviate this issue however it wouldn't explain the "force" behind his punches.

Other characters can hear shrunken Ant-Man speak

I really, really wanted a scene showing how the helmet includes a special amplifier/voice changer to fix his tiny voice to be deep and loud but we never saw it. So, I'll just assume that's how it works.

Shrinking only effects specific objects

The suit and those discs simply need to touch an object to shrink and grow them. So how to they know where to stop? For example, when the train toy is enlarged, why isn't the window? Well, I suppose you could assume that Pym particles only react to the outer most atomic structures that are connected by their electromagnetic force and stop at the point where other structures electromagnetic forces oppose them. This is what keeps your hand from moving through your desk. The atoms aren't actually touching. They are being repelled like magnets against the atoms of the desk.

Ant-Man can go sub-atomic

Yeah, so even if you could shunt matter into another dimension, there becomes a point where you would be reduced to a single atom and still be larger than sub-atomic. So, hmm. Yeah, I haven't got a clue on this one aside from "MAGIC!"

Apart from the cheesy AF dialogue that you get in every single superhero / comic book movie these days I quite enjoyed it. I know next to nothing about the character or franchise so not sure where it could go with sequels in terms of other characters or villains.

Yellowjacket is one of Pym's many aliases. He was a little crazy when he first adopted it,but he's basically just a hero.

Slow start but otherwise a great movie. I'd say it's the best Marvel origin movie behind Guardians of the Galaxy. I'm glad Marvel took a chance with Ant-Man so I hope it's successful for them so they can continue taking chances on other not well-known heroes.

Captain America and The Falcon have been looking for The Winter Soldier since the end of Captain America 2. In this scene they've located him but they can't get Iron Man's help because of new government regulations on superhero activity which have been put in place. Not to mention The Winter Soldier killed Tony's parents so Steve may be worried about alerting Tony before he can prove that Bucky is no longer a brainwashed Hydra assassin.

They need an outsider's help to get Bucky somewhere safe for holding...and that's where Ant-Man comes in.

When was it established that Bucky killed the Starks?

Also, where are the government regulations mentioned?

Are these both from TV?

In Cap2, the scene with Arnim Zola reveals (very briefly) that Bucky was used to kill the Starks (and we're shown a newspaper clipping of Stark's death announcement, covered up as a car crash).

The government regulations are seemingly put in place after the events of Age of Ultron, which will be explained further in Civil War...right now we can just assume that Cap and Iron Man are already on opposite sides of a political movement to bring superhumans under government control. We don't know yet exactly when this post-credits scene takes place, so not sure if Civil War will begin with all this stuff underway or if it'll happen in the beginning of the movie.

I came out of the theater enjoying the movie but after some thought I think I like it a bit more now. It was a lot of fun and I really want to see Paul Rudd with the other Avengers. It's going to be great.

Thoroughly entertaining. Don't mind the formula one bit because it damn works. It's no blue beam into the sky or DO YOU BLEED, it's an honest hero movie with well-outlined character arcs, great watch, very well made. Kinda good to be back to basics after Age of Ultron struggling to find its ground a bit.

RIP Antony you were a bro.
Please don't let that Wasp tease go to waste.

So can someone explain to me the comic logic as to why their mass was that of a tiny person/object yet their strength is like that of a strong grown man?

I mean I'm trying to wrap my head around the idea that the mass seems to be convenient when they want it to be.

I wasn't in a rush to see it but I thought it was a pretty decent movie that was supported by some excellent actors. Although Evangeline Lilly's hair sullied an otherwise beautiful woman.

I assume Hope's mother is somehow going to find her way back/follow Scott Lang back through the quantum realm at some point.

It's not the most suitable haircut for her but it looks better on film than in those leaked photos and screenshots from way back when they started filming. I'm glad they got her into the MCU.

Me and the gf missed the first twenty minutes because we went in to the wrong screen. Saw a claw come through am egg and we jumped straight up!

I'm sure we didn't miss anything too important.
