Ant-Man |Spoiler Thread| I Think Our First Move Should Be Calling The Avengers

Just a side note because I see a lot of people call the age thing out, but Peyton Reed mentioned in that Empire spoiler cast that Peggy is about 65ish in that scene. I don't know if that math lines up with previous continuity (I assume it doesn't since so many people mention it), but that's why she looks younger than 70s.
Oh thanks!

Well... 65-ish in '89? If that's true Peggy was just 21 in '45. Yeah that's a bit too young.

$28 FOR A T-SHIRT?!!

Who am I kidding, I probably would have bought the top one if it weren't for the logos on the sleeves

I actually prefer the design of the woman's shirt. Just switch the designs and I would actually get it.

Also, Peggy seems like the type to go to war early.

Anyone think the idea that the yellow jacket suit will become the in-universe basis for an iron spider suit in civil war isn't crazy?

The Yellowjacket prototype was seemingly destroyed and IIRC the only people to get their hands on it were HYRDA while the rest of Pym Industries was destroyed, right? I think it would be cool to have that connection but I doubt it.

Everytime I think of the de-aged Michael Douglas I get chills. That was the first time in a while that I've been floored by an effect. I just had a stupid grin on my face and felt the movie magic. It was literally magical to me.
Peyton Reed said they used the same people that did the effect for skinny Steve, complete with a younger body double for Michael Douglas that copied all this mannerisms.

Pretty cool that building some convincing CGI involved working in some practical shots.

Just saw it tonight and loved it. I went in with the lowest expectations of any Marvel film (thanks to the poor trailers and my meh reaction to Age of Ultron), but it exceeded them admirably. The villain was a little underwhelming, but that's par for the course with the Marvel films, sadly. That final credit sequence... hopefully we get to see the lead up in Civil War.

Also, did the main Hydra guy escape with Cross' version of the Pym Particle? I remember he was in the vault but nothing after that.

How much strength does Ant-Man have when he shrinks?

I believe the way it works in the MCU is that he retains his full human strength, so when he's small, he can still pick up a chair, throw a guy, etc. However, since his density is increased so dramatically, he winds up with superhuman durability (allowing him to survive those huge falls) and the force he exerts on things is increased (allowing him to jump, or requiring him to pull his punches or else he'll blow through someone).

Well the thing they say is he shrinks by moving his molecules closer together. So then he weighs as much shrunk as large, his mass is the same. Which makes everything else stupid: ants survive falls because they're light and have low terminal velocity, Ant-man would have stupid-high terminal velocity, strictly higher than a human's. Also he can't go subatomic...

So really the movie doesn't have an explanation for his powers, there is nothing even almost physically real happening here, it's just magic.

"Pulling punches" is a joke, that obviously wouldn't do anything the impact point is still pin-sized. But dude's arms are short so he probably wouldn't puncture through the subcutaneous fat. The only way Ant-man could hurt a human would be to stand on their shoulder and punch through their carotid? But even then the puncture would maybe be small enough it would clot...
Or else wear a WWI German helmet and jump to use himself as a bullet lol.

Watched this last night. It was terrible. One of Paul Rudds worst movies, surprising because he has made some really bad ones.

Marvel is tiresome now. It's the same formula, same template, over and over and over. Can't anyone see that already?

Done with marvel flicks.

Oh come on now bucko, it aint all doom and gloom.

While Marvel movies are pretty much formulamatic, this movie was quite entertaining.

Watched the movie today. Liked it. It was much better than I was expecting
Felt like the middle took a little etoo long at times, but the 3rd act was pretty great

One thing that bothered me was that they did a really shitty job at portraying how painful bullet ant stings are. Sure, they mentioned that it's the most painful sting, but when characters were bitten by them they were just twitching, and Cross just sort of grabbed the bullet ant after it bit him and crushed it.

This is what bullet ants are like:

Wikipedia said:
The pain caused by this insect's sting is purported to be greater than that of any other hymenopteran, and is ranked as the most painful according to the Schmidt sting pain index, given a "4+" rating, above the tarantula hawk wasp and, according to some victims, equal to being shot, hence the name of the insect. It is described as causing "waves of burning, throbbing, all-consuming pain that continues unabated for up to 24 hours". The ant is thought to have evolved its sting to ward off any predators that would normally unearth them.[2] Poneratoxin, a paralyzing neurotoxic peptide isolated from the venom, affects voltage-dependent sodium ion channels and blocks the synaptic transmission in the central nervous system. It is being investigated for possible medical applications.[5][6]

No, you're the first one to crack the code.

Is this a theory or is he confirmed as Bipolar?

kind of wish Marvel would of discussed more about Hank's bipolar disorder, that would of been interesting

Seems like a lot to put on MCU Hank when he's not the star of the film and has a long history already. They basically took his darker side and made that Cross, which was a neat way to do it and point it out in the movie as Cross and Lang being the two sides of Hank Pym.

Maybe they'll go back and do more with it but I think it works fine to just have him be a paranoid shut-in because of his dealing with the loss of Janet over the years.

Uh, ok.
And are there any books that revolve around this? Beside just a mention I mean?

Pym's always had mental issues, but I think it was Avengers AI when it was specifically called out as bipolar disorder by The Vision

one thing though that i been wanting to know?

was Pym's mental illness the reason Ultron went rogue, because i believe Pym used his brainwaves to pattern ultron's behavior

thats not really a good portrayal of mental illness

It was based on pym's brainwaves. I would say it was pym's personality combined with the whole 'robots think in extremes" thing.

ok i see..

im really interested in Hank Pym...i always felt that he was pretty much on Reed's level when it came to scientific understanding, and like a few of you mentioned Hank is the scientist supreme, because of his ability to make science like magic

is Hank going to be any books for the upcoming All-New, All Different Marvel line up?

Yeah Rage of Ultron is set in the post-Secret Wars canon. If you want to know what's up with Hank then you need to read it.

Good book too, albiet a bit rushed to make it to print before the movie hit.

Ultron was good as a comedic villain but awful as a menacing one. Dude wouldn't stop making quips when he was onscreen.

Actually, with Spideyverse joining the MCU, Marvel should have a slection from what is considered one of the best rogue galleries of any super-hero, right?

Finally. Another one gone. Marvel Be Worried Now.

How I feel whenever someone else mentions they liked Ultron in AoU:

...at least on gaf
I thought Ultron was great in AoU. I sometimes think people just want a generic, talk in a synthetic, Vulcan -esque monotone killbot. I loved Spader's Ultron as an arrogant, megalomiacal child modeled after RDJ's Stark. He was fun everytime he was on screen. There arent only two ways to portray an antagonist : Loki and Ledger's Joker. Now, Ronan from GotG was boring. Eccleston in Thor 2 was boring. Whiplash, Sam Rockwell, Loki, Ultron, Red Skull, Winter Soldier , Obediah, and Cross are actually fine, entertaining antagonists, even if many of them just want to rule or obtain some kind of powerful artifact/technology. This "Marvel has shitty villains except for Loki" shit has reached "PS3 has no games" level of foolishness for me, personally.

Saw it again today and thought it was better on a second viewing. I liked it a lot the first time but I think it's going to be a good rewatchable movie. I'll be honest I didn't even notice Hayley in the opening the first time.

I loved this movie. Plenty of good jokes and actions. Belong up there with the good marvel movies. Really wish the trailer didn't spoil Falcon's appearance in the movie.
