Just saw this. I loved it. I was one of the few who actually had high hopes for it from the start so it's great that it turned out so well. It felt very different from the standard Marvel formula (not that I mind the standard Marvel formula). It was quite funny and shows that marvel can shake things up, the small scale (no pun intended) of the plot was great.
Don't know how I feel about Falcon jobbing to Ant-man tho...

Because you think he sucks or he's too good to fight antman?
falcon sucks

I was worried at first because the dialogue at the beginning was so clunky as was the exposition, it just seemed like awful writing. After that though it really did pick up, whilst I think it wasn't as funny as Guardians I definitely think the tone of the film was more that of a comedy film than Guardians.

The audience I was with were great and there were some huge laughs at scenes like the 'back it up' and the Thomas crash (which I had ruined for me by the trailers) so the atmosphere was great. The shrinking stuff was brilliantly done and the microverse was a lot of fun, I loved the 2001 homage when he was initially shrinking, it looked phenomenal.

This film is really suffering from people saying it's stupid without seeing it though. I've mentioned that I saw it several times and either get 'I've heard it's really good' or 'it looks stupid' so the word of mouth is great but people chatting utter bollocks without seeing it could be it's undoing. I was also surprised with the amount of very young children in the theater given the tone the films have taken, I do wonder if many parents were shocked by the bad language and the very grotesque deaths. I did also wonder this for the 'fuck off' in DOFP but who knows. The audiences for the Marvel films that I've seen sans Age of Ultron have all been mostly late teens and twenties but I think the juvenile name of Ant-Man has given it a perception that it doesn't necessarily bear out.

Anyway, in the grand Marvel scheme I will give my placement:

Great:
Guardians of the Galaxy
The Winter Soldier
Avengers
Iron Man

Good:
Ant-Man
Age of Ultron
Iron Man 3

Okay:
Thor
Captain America
The Dark World

Meh:
Iron Man 2
The Incredible Hulk

Although even the 'meh' films I will occasionally watch and enjoy, like I really enjoy the senate scene from Iron Man 2.

Sorry if this has been asked already but why did the police confront Pym? Were they trying to arrest him, and if so, why? At first I thought maybe Cross didn't want Pym there and would have the police escort him off the premises, but when Cross met up with Pym, he was rather jovial and eager to show him his creation. I feel like something was cut because that scene just felt weird.

They suspected him in helping Scott escape prison when they found out it was him that posed as Scott's lawyer.

I don't remember the cops discussing this. Huh, then again there was a rather obnoxious kid kicking my chair throughout the movie so I must have missed it

this is amazing

Pym posed as Lang's lawyer, and it was Pym's house that Lang busted into/out of. It is suspicious to say the least.

The fiancee got a text message about it. As he's leaving the table is when Cassie says "I hope you don't catch him."

Finally saw this yesterday. Enjoyed it, felt different enough from the usual Marvel movies.

Also made me try out the Avengers cartoon on Disney XD this afternoon, so annoying how the cartoons for Marvel now are based off the movies. Feel like they are making a lot of kids/fans miss out these days.

you're doing it wrong! Watch Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes on Netflix instead-God Tier.

Just watched today, I loved this movie!

The tone was really good, funny and light and the action was good. Excellent performances by Rudd, Lilly, Douglas, Stoll and Peña.

Damn, and Hope is so badass... I need her on the Avengers team so bad.

I thought Ultron was great in AoU.
Spader was excellent, but I wish they hadn't animated the lips. I think a rigid, grinning robot skull out of which a normal voice is projected would be much more interesting.

Eccleston in Thor 2 was boring.
Yeah, this was a real shame. They took a great actor then hid his face with prosthetics and his voice with distortion. They might as well have used a stuntman.

The common problem with the Marvel villains is that they're all defeated during their first appearance, so there's no urge to write interesting arcs for them. Their motivations are typically dog-simple. Unusual, intriguing atmosphere like the truly weird Colonel-Kurtz-reads-Nietzsche-by-way-of-Foghorn-Leghorn portrayal of the Mandarin therefore gets discarded without further comment or elaboration.

She needs to end up in charge of the Avengers. I'd like to see someone lead who has conquered all their angst. A commanding female presence would be nice, too.

Word. It seriously looked so silly and unnecessary. Why in the hell would a robot need rows of individual teeth in his mouth. That combined with how the "metal" around his mouth area would occasionally magically bend and curl like a human lip does when saying certain words. I know the decision was probably made because it's easier, quicker, and more obvious to convey emotion through conventional facial expressions but they could have made a compromise. Have it be Iron legion Ultron > Ultron (human face) > then when he is giving Widow that speech and rips himself in half have Ultron Prime step forward with the static gaping maw. You've already established Ultron's character and mannerisms by that point, now underline his growing hatred of humanity and of Stark by giving him a truly inhuman and terrifying design. Some of those concept sketches were just spot on and it shows how you can still read tone and emotion from a faceless robot during the final scene with Vision and a drone.

I am curious how they will let him join the Avengers. Pym wasnt such a big fan of them and I kind of dont see him continue to mentor Scott when he joins them/ goes that far in the near of Stark.

If he joins Cap and opposes Stark I can see Pym maybe being cool with it

Yeah, but
he was involved in the one scene in africa were got setpics from, and also Robert Downey Jr. was seen on set.

There is the possibility that its a scene were Iron Man flies in and tries to stop Steves Avengers, but I have the feeling its more a generell team up scene.

I'm really starting to get worried for Civil War, seems like there's so much stuff happening, so many subplot and characters that in my imagination is probably enough for 3 movies alone.

I can't help thinking it will never live up to what I imagine in my head, realistically, so many character are probably only have very minor role that I most definitely be disappointed because there's not enough screen time of those character.

For example Ant-Man, what if he only showed up for a scene or two, then quickly left or forgotten for the rest of the movie like Quicksilver in DoFP. The scene may be cool, but I don't like how it's handled in Xmen movie and I hope it didn't happen like that in Civil War.

I have the same concerns but I think the rest of the avengers will just be in the background, honestly. Participate in a fight, have a few lines, etc.

The musical cue when Scott shrinks Cross with a disk in the bedroom and then shrinks down into the table is absolutely fantastic

Watch Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes on Netflix instead-God Tier.

People say this yet its actually the show that has
Captain America replaced by a skrull for like an entire season
Just awful.
Wasp and Ant-Man are the only thing I liked about that series, everything else I think I'd take Assemble for(not that its great but its better than EMH imo).

Yeah, I didn't care much for the Secret Invasion arc. I'm actually enjoying the Evil Justice League Squadron Supreme arc on Assemble.

But speaking of Ant-Man and the current cartoon, I can't help but imagine how confused kids not familiar with the comic are since the Ant-Man in the cartoon is this weird Lang/Pym hybrid. It works, it's just weird.

Yo man post some Doom GIFs from EMH too~

The first season is great
The first half of Season 2 is good too
The later half of Season 2 left so much to be desired

The Cap thing isn't a big issue cuz we get an ep. where he shows he can still kick ass no matter what.
So overall EMH is still worth watching and a great adaptation fo Avengers.
