I mean, I knew it was never going to be called World's Finest, but I'm not sure any of the alternatives really have all that much pleasant a ring to them.

Yeah at least you're not this dude that was so sure it was going to be called World's Finest.

Wouldn't be surprised if it's called World's Finest, honestly.

Let's not get to into nitpicking the symbolic appropriateness of the film's subtitles just yet. "Worthiness" is something you go over after the film's out. :)

Besides, we're dealing with filmmakers who have a proven track record of going with the thing that has cachet and sounds cool over the thing that makes more sense.

I can see both Snyder/Goyer pushing for "World's Finest" for the title.

Yeah, same here. Looks now like it's gonna go

Man of Steel
World's Finest
Justice League

eh i have no problem with this, if its dark knight returns inspired then im fucking hyped. best graphic novel ive read and one of the best dc animation they have done(excluding mask of the phantasm).

How is World's Finest a shitty title?

Its quick, punchy and memorable.
Even without the history behind it, its a title that rolls of the tongue.

What sounds better?

'Hey you want to see Dawn of Justice?'

Or

'Hey you want to see World's Finest?'

The general audience wouldnt know what the hell it means.

I agree with you but just to add, everyone is going to say "Do you want to see Batman Vs Superman?"

No one will call it by Dawn of Justice or Worlds Finest or whatever it would have been named. It will always be Batman Vs. Superman.

World's Finest would've been better but Dawn of Justice makes their point clearer

Oh so that's why they made the bat logo so big this time. Had to find a way to fit the superman logo in there for the promos.

Edit; oh wow. Beaten

Have you not seen the emblem they used from Miller's "Dark Knight Returns". The emblems there were fat. This movie was inspired by the book. The SDCC reveal already used the "fat emblem". So no, the fat bat symbol wasn't shoehorned for the promos.

The question is whether they could have picked any title wouldn't be called horrible by people on the web.

World's Finest what?

You know and I know means because we have familiarity with the material, but eveyrone who only knows of the characters on a casual basis will not. It's too vague.

I swear the hate for BvS is really good for the movie as the a lot of crow will be eaten when the movie is finally released

So you're just as bad as the other people who assumed the movie will be terrible, cause you're assuming it will be really good.

So I'll see you here for the feast?

World's Finest wouldn't really cover the point of the movie would it. They're going to fight, then justice will prevail.

It isn't that Superman will not get his own second movie, it's more like this is Justice League Part 1 and Justice League will be part 2, followed by a few solo films, including Wonder Woman.

No one will give a shit, and everyone will call this Batman vs. Superman. That will draw casuals in way more than World's Finest or Dawn of Justice.

I would have liked Superman/Batman: Heroes Divided or something like that.

Just hate we finally get a proper Supes relaunch and WB is adamant on catching that Avengers money.

Because it's associated with the NYPD for starters. 2nd is that it's way too generic.

Its hilarious that people don't realise the movie is not based no the world's finest comics but inspired by Miller's 'The Dark Knight Returns'. That is NOT world's finest based universe. WHY would the title have world's finest when the heroes are not even collaborating and its based on a different cannon

Or...

Not really.

Captain America vs Red Skull : Avengers Begins

That would be bad.

If Dawn of Justice is successful are they going to play safe again and call the sequel Batman v Superman : The Justice League.

Typical WB not getting it. The film will do well on merit and solid marketing. They don't need such a lame title.

You're shouting into the void of the internet, unfortunately. That kind of apparently rationalization has no place when people are trying their hardest to bitch and moan as much as possible.

You're 100% correct.

I don't really care that much. The logo is cool. The title doesn't matter because it's just a damn title. So can we stop this extreme fanboyism please?

Its not going to be called Justice league because Justice league is not the focus. The dawn of Justice means just that, the beginning of a group of people which will be eventually called justice league in subsequent movies. its not that hard to comprehend

Batman V...

That's its guys, Batman V is confirmed. Nolan decided to skip Batman IV, he fired Snyder, this is a Batman movie with a Superman cameo.

Batman V: Superman Dawn of Justice.

This title is terrible, but "World's Finest" would've been awful too. I'm pretty comfortable with comic books and it still sounds silly. I'd pretty much only give it a pass because of its pedigree. And that's me, a forgiving nerd.

Yeah, it takes balls to use a shitty, money-losing title in-place of a serviceable one. The Dark Knight is at least synonymous with Batman in public perception.

Sure it is.

Now.

Imagine this: Brian Williams is hosting NBC Nightly News and during the little entertainment section the story comes up that it's the 75th anniversary of Batman, so he opens the segment with "A big day for fans of the Dark Knight." People would know, "Oh, Batman." Doesn't matter if they've ever held a comic in their life.

Let's say a similar scenario happens where Brian Williams has to talk about Batman and Superman as a duo. He opens with "And news today for the World's Finest..." People would be like, ".... The... NYPD?"

WB is pumping millions of dollars into this new franchise. They need as much of the general audience as they can get. They're not going to make the title something vague and uninteresting just to appease some guys on the internet.

You're tiring me out with these mental gymnastics breh. But keep defending corporate conservatism and risk aversion.

I think the subtitle is fine. The problem is the Batman v Superman part.

Man of Steel 2: Dawn of Justice

Not the greatest title but would have been better than what we got. That said, they needed Batman in there for marketing purposes so I'm ultimately not surprised we got this as well.
