Batman v. Superman RT Thread: like standing ovations in rain

I feel the worst for Warner Bros.

Marvel has managed to knock out a dozen films and a half-dozen TV series in the last ten years in a shared cinematic universe but all Warner Bros. has been able to manage in that same time is a single Superman film of arguably average quality.

And now they've thrown hundreds of millions of dollars a big budget tentpole superhero film and it's potentially terrible. How does the Marvel guys make it look so easy?

Well, thankfully Batman is a big enough draw on name alone that the film will do well enough regardless of quality.

Have you seen any of the DC TV shows? Gotham and Flash are just plain good. Heck, Gotham S2 is currently probably one of the best TV shows out there.

I think Marvel films just offer less to actually hate, which goes a long way to earning those middle of the pack 3/5 to 3.5/5 reviews, which (if that is what most reviewers are assigning) will lead to 70-80% on RT. It doesn't mean that critics think the films belong on a top 10 of the year list or anything.

Only hated and divisive films get low scores on RT based on how the aggregation works.

Not surprising for the reviews. Basically been the narrative since day one.

Movie does has its problems but the amount of people in here feeling schadenfreude without having even SEEN the movie and taking rottentomatoes (which has its flaws) as gospel is pretty crazy.

Y'all acting like its 100% shit and Snyder should be removed from the DCEU and a lot of y'all haven't even seen it smh.

DCEU need to tone down the seriousness, MCU need to tone down it's quips and silliness.
How is that so hard?

Maybe X-Men Apocalypse will end up being the best superhero movie this year.

i have to say that is one things i liked about MoS was the seriousness soo if this movie continues that thats good for me... silly fits marvel movies more... you cant have RDJ in a movie without silliness :P

I don't get it, if it's selling a lot of tickets even before it releases, and then technically yeah, it'll review horribly but it'll make its money.

Hug meeeee

They want Marvel's success without putting up the effort. They think as long as they have a puppet director and imitate the style of the Nolan films they'll make bank.
.

Oh there's effort. There's hundreds of millions of dollars of effort. The problem is the people putting forth the effort. The product of their effort is upsetting.

Fuck Warner.

No, seriously, Fuck'em.

They want Marvel's success without putting up the effort. They think as long as they have a puppet director and imitate the style of the Nolan films they'll make bank.

I really feel bad for DC. They can only sit by and watch while their creations are mutilated by a clueless studio.

MCU really is a marketing success story. They built this huge brand, and in the process turned some lesser known Superheroes (to the public at large) into household names.

You're basing this off of the second movie in the DCU? One you haven't even seen yet? And how could you POSSIBLY mistake this stylized CG-heavy style for Nolan's realistic practical-effects-heavy style? They aren't even close to the same.

It seems like you feel that DC should be in the same place as Marvel right now, while neglecting to realize that they're starting a good ten years later.

Why is Zack Snyder hated so much? I've never seen Man of Steel.

Sucker Punch wasn't good. He made a Watchmen movie that kinda missed the point of Watchmen. He made a Superman movie that had a Superman who didn't really inspire any hope or any of those feelings you should get from Superman.

I have no idea what you're saying here. You're insurmountably happy that it's reviewing poorly as a DC comics fan because you get to leave the theater shaking your head in disbelief?

What about the DC TV universe?

If WB had the slightest amount of respect for their TV division, they wouldn't be dicking them over with dumb-as-fuck character embargoes and announcing Ezra Miller as Flash the same week of their TV Flash's highly lauded debut.

I thought I was being SUPER conservative saying it would score low 60s, 58 at worst.

Oh well. I look forward to Civil War picking up the slack that even Batman couldn't salvage.

DC also needs to kick Snyder to the curb. Get someone else on board to head some of these movies and just forget about him(keep him away from future projects).

They also gotta understand it took a while for the Avengers movie to come into place by building up other super heroes in stand-alone movies. DC seems really eager to capitalize on the whole "Cinematic Universe" thing, but that shit don't happen all of a sudden. No matter how well known these characters are, you need to take some time to build it up to a level were the "crossover event" works.

I liked sucker punch.

There's no law against liking bad things. If there was, people would be arrested for being fans of the Transformers movies. And this isn't meant to be condescending. I love a bunch of horrible movies. Sometimes horrible movies are still fun.

People forget that a lot of the Marvel universe setup was done in Iron Man 2, a movie most seem to consider a mess precisely because of all that setup. Like, the "effort" you're calling for from Warner Bros. is not all that different from what people are saying they did in BvS.

Of course, Iron Man 2 still had a decent reception and Iron Man 1 got great reviews so who knows.

Watch Bruce slowly becoming Batman is so good

it isnt crazy to be glad this is being recieved badly if you hated MoS and Snyder and cared about these characters wishing they'd rethink their approach and change shit

it makes sense

I don't want this DCCU at all

That's pretty much why I'm here. Won't lie, it feels like vindication. Don't get me wrong, I'd rather this movie be fuck awesome and have to eat crow but, being that it could be shit has me in "told you, fuckers MoS was shit! This proves it!" mode.

Anyways, there are some really creepy Doomsday images on google...

He's the Micheal Bay of super hero movies. He can do flash, but that's about it.

But the difference is Bay is critic proof. They go to his movies dispute the critics and he make oodles of money, and he has a HUGE following believe or not when it comes to his spectacles.

I said before here but thread moves fast

reviews absolutely matter

it makes the next BO tickle down

slowly, sure, but it's a pattern

higher ups and people who invest into this care about it being a good movie, cause ultimately, and soon enough, that reflects on the money it makes

and then it's late

it's what happened with ASM2

it made a shit ton of movie, but less than the first one

they scrapped a SHIT TON of plans based on that and that alone
No doubt Fantastic Four was completely sunk by reviews.

Man I wasn't a huge fan of Man of Steel at all, so I hope BvS is at least better than that - I find it hard to believe I could be bored more than I was during the first half of MoS.
