It's hard to make a Superman story not boring though.

Whoever does it next should go all-out goofy with Superman.

Serious Superman doesn't work. The Dark Knight only worked because it was a Joker film.

Watch the animated version of All-Star Superman. It's not hard to make a good Superman movie at all-it's just hard for WB to make it in the TONE that they want.

it isnt crazy to be glad this is being recieved badly if you hated MoS and Snyder and cared about these characters wishing they'd rethink their approach and change shit

it makes sense

I don't want this DCCU at all

I woke up this morning thinking it would get an 80 and at the worst a 70. Can I be pure again? I want to be able to have hope again.

there's no way they won't react to this btw

there were already reports from higher ups, rumors errywhere

JLA is either delayed or facing some timely changes
Reviews don't matter in the end, money does. If this tops a billion worldwide they will not give two shits about the critical response.

Not talking just to you but people who are now bummed it's "bad". Why does more people saying it's bad than people saying it's good mean that's it's just now accepted that it's bad? I'm not trying to say that critical opinion is worthless, but even if we assume that the RT rating right now is final, over 40% of critics DIDN'T think it was a bad movie. 10,000 people on IMDB have given it an average rating it a 9.3 (and yes, I know that will go down by the time it officially releases).

I'm just saying that it's odd to just accept that it's bad when it's not close to universally hated.

I use RT for what it is: a proxy for critical reception. Over the years I have found that it is much more likely than not to point in the direction my view also leans. They can run a spectrum: Sometimes I see films that got decent reviews and I think they're brilliant. Sometimes I see well reviewed films and think they're just okay (The Revenant comes to mind). And yes, sometimes I really like badly reviewed films. But that last one is more of an exception.

So I say "bummer" because historically speaking, odds are relatively low that I'll like a poorly reviewed film. Not because it was poorly reviewed, but rather, because more often than not I agree that the poor reviews were on to something. I also say "bummer" because generally, I root for films to turn out great. I'm not someone that hopes for failure.

I feel the worst for Warner Bros.

Fuck Warner.

No, seriously, Fuck'em.

They want Marvel's success without putting up the effort. They think as long as they have a puppet director and imitate the style of the Nolan films they'll make bank.

I really feel bad for DC. They can only sit by and watch while their creations are mutilated by a clueless studio.

I feel the worst for Warner Bros.

Marvel has managed to knock out a dozen films and a half-dozen TV series in the last ten years in a shared cinematic universe but all Warner Bros. has been able to manage in that same time is a single Superman film of arguably average quality.

And now they've thrown hundreds of millions of dollars a big budget tentpole superhero film and it's potentially terrible. How does the Marvel guys make it look so easy?

Well, thankfully Batman is a big enough draw on name alone that the film will do well enough regardless of quality.

Did you forget all of DC's successful TV shows?

How about Zack Snyder goes and fucks somebody else's favorite franchise, I've heard Thundercats are avaliable. Fuck. Save us director Ben Affleck.

Make it more along the lines of All Star Superman. He doesn't have to be goofy, but he also doesn't have to have a constant scowl/perplexed look on his face either.

I mean I want good DC movies. It's just Zack Snyder does not make good movies.

I said before here but thread moves fast

reviews absolutely matter

it makes the next BO tickle down

slowly, sure, but it's a pattern

higher ups and people who invest into this care about it being a good movie, cause ultimately, and soon enough, that reflects on the money it makes

and then it's late

it's what happened with ASM2

it made a shit ton of movie, but less than the first one

they scrapped a SHIT TON of plans based on that and that alone

It's pretty evident that it's just flat and rather soulless (just like MoS and majority of Snyder films).

See again-- I disagree that Man of Steel was soulless. In fact it's like the last thing I'd call it. This shit is so subjective it's unreal. People will find heart, soul, and joy in a multitude of ways, it just depends on what personally winds up striking them.

Man, this is such a bummer. I much prefer DC's universe but they had to go and give the reins to fucking Snyder of all people. This movie could have been so good! Please give someone else Justice League. Please.

The difference is that the DC TV Shows aren't in the same universe as this upcoming DCU.

Not that it's a big deal or anything, but it's neat that Agents of SHIELD, Agent Carter, and the Netflix shows all happen in the same universe.

I know this is such an absurd thought, but maybe you guys should watch the movie before deeming it utter shit based on other peoples opinions.

Some of my favourite movies of all time have a <50 tomato score. And a lot which are average get decent scores, like the 2 Thor movies.
I can enjoy many kinds of critic-hated movies, but Zack Snyder doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt. I have no doubt that this movie will be tonally inconsistent, trying to treat whimsical subjects as if they moody and aggressive. I have no doubt it will be no fun.

Marvel took their time to develop a universe. They took characters that the average joe didn't give much of a thought about and made them super iconic characters. Warner Bros and DC had no such plans and it's pretty clear that their upcoming plans were thrown together quickly to cash in. They should have gotten rid of Snyder after Man of Steel.

One of the keys to Marvels success has been changing up directors. Both the Iron Man and Avengers sequels weren't as good as the first and that could be very well be that the directors needed to change. We'll see if the same holds true for GotG and Civil War.

I hope these reviews don't capsize the Superman videogame. Fuck, I know I'll like the movie because I liked Man of Steel and 300 but I still wanted this to fix the usual problems Synder has.

I like Justice League Superman because he fits as a leader role, like Robin in Teen Titans.

Think Superman brand is cursed. Hard to make good movies and games...

I'm watching Girl Meets World and I'm trying to figure out a way to get it slotted into the DC Cinematic Universe

Maybe Topanga actually has hippie powers

Film quality does have an effect. Not-so-good word of mouth kept some audiences from going to Amazing Spider-Man 2, and its return was deemed a failure by Sony, so that series was canceled. Obviously BvS will be enormous based on the title alone, but a string of duds would not be harmless

Or you can hope to be like the >40% of critics who enjoyed the movie. You don't HAVE to follow the opinion of the majority.

People have no reason to hate this. Considering the reviews it's getting it just didn't pull off what it would ideally have.

I'm still seeing it, of course. But now I can go in prepared to scowl at the screen.

They should go more light-hearted. They should look at the old television series for inspiration.
