Maybe they filmed a Jason Todd death scene, but had to cut it for theatrical release.
That's the only thing I can think of. And it would suck if that scene is in the DVD version but not in the theatrical version. I would take implied violence in this case (off screen brutality like in the comics).

Maybe the Knightmare scenes too.

The Dark Knight was pretty close to getting an R I believe due to the Joker scenes.

Can't imagine what this movie has that could lead to an R, and it seems to be just from the violence rather than other stuff. Guess we'll find out in late-summer.

The "Hollywood learns the wrong lessons" stuff is just a running gag I'm not in on, right guys? Y'all don't really think they threw together an R-rated cut and got it rated since Deadpool released... right?

Right?

But the Ultimate Edition was submitted by Warner Home Entertainment, not Warner Bros. Pictures.

Is this going to be the opposite of where TV versions have swear words overdubbed with stuff like 'melon farmer'? The BvS home release will have 'shit', 'fuck', bellends', 'cunt' etc liberally overdubbed during otherwise PG13 dialogue.

You're giving this forum way more credit than it deserves.

I think I'm ok with getting R edits after the theatrical releases. What makes me wonder is the way they handle these versions.

Beeing rated R doesn't mean much for the addition of some gory, bloody or sexy scenes. And I think this is were most movies will fail. Hope not tho.

Both DC and Marvel's mainline superhero comics have been depicting what would be r-rated content for some time now. It's why DC, for example, has an entirely different line of comics with their superheroes specifically aimed for kids.

If they are doing Jason Todd i doubt they would cut it for the original release. but could see them using an Alternate version like the comic where you only see the crowbar and shadows. then extended cut you see more.

It would of been a late decision to film that since they didnt have Letto until a month or two before Suicide Squad filmed. Unless they had a stand in for the Joker and then Filmed a new version for a directors cut when doing Suicide Squad.

Right?

I hope so, but I have a feeling they're serious.

They already did this.

Trailer: " That son of a bitch brought the war to us"

Superbowl: " He's the one who brought the war to us"

I'm surprised they have the director's cut already finished and ready to be rated by this point.

It might be because Justice League starts to film early April so Snyder wont have time to make a new cut then. and there might be a gap in pre-production with all the press tours for the BvS cast.

Error

Jealous of the Glory that is Johnny Depp
Are we really going to complain about an optional cut of the movie that adds more scenes?

It seems nowadays people complain about everything.

This film finished shooting almost two years, there's no Deadpool effect.

Yep, Hollywood learning the wrong lesson again.

Not in this case. Not even close. I really hope people don't really think this with films coming out this year. Save that for films coming next year. This film has been done for a long time. Long before Deadpool even came out. I think all of Snyder's films have gotten either uncut or extended editions save Man of Steel. There was word that there was a 4 hour cut of this film before they cut it down.

I imagine Wonder Woman is cutting off some limbs in this. We already see what Batman can do. I imagine more broken bones in this version. Maybe Superman's fight with
Doomsday
is even more brutal.

Edit: Also Suicide Squad was already in post-production before Deadpool came out as well. Just in case someone tries to say that's learning the wrong lesson or copying Deadpool if it's extended cut is revealed.

Of all the things said in this thread, I cannot believe people are crediting a film that's been released for under two weeks, for the bearing of a film that has been in production for years.

Besides, it won't be rated for the same reasons. Being the same rating doesn't mean it'll have heads rolling off and a tit joke. Itnwint be ultr bviolent, but I guess the violence will be hard hitting and bloody. The main reason shaky cam and quick cuts even exist is to avoid showing violence, thus making it a lower rating with similar content.

It could just be that the scenes have more clarity, not that it's grotesque.

The MPAA is all kinds of wacky with these ratings. The Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies EE got an R rating, and it really didn't deserve it. I bet this cut will be as tame as that.

I'll say it

I don't think Batman nor Superman should be anywhere close to an R... I mean comics should be for as many folks as possible.

It's one of the reasons I really dislike Frank Miller's work

Sorry, couldn't help it. :)

Yeah this is what I'm expecting but IIRC Leto was spotted on set during the reshoots for a bit.

No, the rating classification clearly says it is rated R for "violence" and not language.

I think there were rumors about shooting a Jason Todd scene but was never said if it was going to be for BvS or Suicide Squad.

Fuck i wish WB had the balls to let Suicide Squad be a R rated movie from the start,

Movies are re-sent to the MPAA multiple times to get re-rated and re-edited to get the required rating. Since this is the director's cut, it would imply the previous cut sent to the MPAA was too much for a PG-13 rating and they toned down the violence just enough.

Deadpool didn't magically make a movie finished and releasing next month have reshoots.

Hobbit did it first.

Yeah. A lot of people are missing this great example. Warner Bros. had released The Battle of Five Armies extended and left it r-rated; remember the PG-13 version was edited down from longer cuts.

What Deadpool sounds like it did at best was galvanize that they no longer have qualms with releasing the r-rated cut instead of never seeing that version ever. Besides it's for violence, have enough sustained violence and you can get an r-rating, just look at Jackie Chan's The Legend of Drunken Master, that screamed PG-13 and the MPAA gave it a R-rating.
