Yeah I've been playing both and I think I prefer Battleborn more.
It's more tactical while at the same time feeling more fast paced (base movement speed is much faster and you can sprint).
Overwatch seems more polished though. You don't get caught on NPCs or other environmental items like you do on Battleborn, and in general Overwatch seems near perfect relative to what it has set out to achieve. In contrast, Battleborn does not - there are plenty ways in which it could be better.
Balance is also more of an issue in Battleborn, as the high time to kill allows balance issues to be more apparant. In Overwatch TTK is much lower so just about anyone can kill anyone, but in Battleborn it becomes very clear that Oscar Mike is a better character than Whisky Foxtrot when they're presented with a 1 vs 1 scenario.
Overall though, I would say I find everything that's going on much more interesting in Battleborn, it's more diverse and teamwork and synergy are more essential. Kills tend to feel more satisfying and have more of an impact on the match, too. I guess that's a part of what I like about it, Battleborn always escalates to the point where you're at 40 second respawns and kills become really rewarding, so many games end up being pretty tense and strategies shift throughout the game.
Finally figured out how to play Caldarius in Meltdown last night. I just stay back, killing minions from afar and moving between lanes. Use the grenade with bleed to encourage Rath/Galilea/Deande to stay back and just keep pecking away at the enemy and retreating when necessary. I had 3 or 4 wins last night with very few kills, maybe 4-5 per match, but a load of assists and minion kills. Plus with his speed upgrade, it makes it easy to collect shards and upgrade turrets/buy minions.
He's definitely a harasser not an assassin.
I had a few good games with him yesterday, and a few bad ones, but overall I would say he's a pretty non-essential character. Yes, he can harass, but if either team has a support then that harassment becomes almost entirely negated. You wouldn't be able to push Rath out of lane with a Miko, Rayna or Ambra present.
It's easy to stay alive and be a persistent nuance due to his abilities, however I feel that it doesn't have much impact on the overall match to do so. Even in conquest, there's not much he can do to push enemies off the conquest objectives when everyone with range out damages him. Thorn has better sustain and a great AoE and good evasive options with high jump and movement speed enhancements, Bennedict deals much more damage and has better escape options.
Even a solo Miko can push Caldarius out of lane due to DoT Kunai and persistent healing versus Caldarius' low DPS. Every ranged character out damages you at range, and every close range specialist out damages you up close. Caldarius' strength lies in his versatility, with melee and pistol, but what good is melee when people can simply shoot you at point blank range for more damage, and what good is harassing people with his pistol when they deal more damage than you? Saying it's okay because Caldarius can run away and 'sustain' his harassment strategy is a pretty weak defense considering other characters can sustain and escape better than Caldarius, all the while dealing far greater damage.
It doesn't help that I feel that his dash ability is pretty useless. If the enemy is facing you they will deal more damage than the dash does while you dash towards them, if you use it to close in on escaping enemies, it doesn't track so it doesn't hit them if they move at all. If you use it to escape, or to pursue, it gets cut out by elevations in terrain or small environmental objects. It's unreliable and that sucks.
He is also one of the few characters that is hugely affected by the hitbox size of his targets. Characters like Thorn will only take ~ 50% of his spread, even if you're accurate, while characters like Isic take the full 600 damage per clip. It creates a huge amount of variance in his damage output.
