Is it worth playing the 'missions' rather than the MOBA mode? I only played the moba in the beta.

It's my lowest priority thing right now, but it's got it's own wrinkles for sure (different foes, traps, tower defense style objectives, boss and miniboss battles) that give it some unique gameplay.

It also is the faster (?) way to quite a few unlocks, and there are loot and chest drops on occasion. Plus it's plays help related stats (like number of X enemies killed), which helps get you exp.

Lastly, a good place to try out stuff you wouldn't want to build in a MOBA-esque match.

Is it possible to play the campaign missions "in order" through matchmaking, or is it always 2 maps that you vote on? I guess you just have to keep track of which missions you haven't beaten and vote for them when they come up.

Missions you've beaten will have medal icons next to them. No icon, you have yet to complete it. Easy.

What I really wish the game had was a quick way to check Lore challenges during character select. Now that can be hard to remember, there's 25 characters!

Unlocked a fair few characters yesterday and against my preconceptions, I really enjoyed playing as Boldur and Whiskey Foxtrot.

Boldur in particular is great for making people panic and chasing them down. He can clear so much distance in just a few seconds, it's also possible to slip in unnoticed during a spot of chaos and start swapping over turrets and towers.

I might do it just to unlock things quicker then, it seemed pretty slow to unlock stuff in the beta.

Played the Overwatch beta last night..I liked it, but I just enjoy Battleborn more, seems faster paced and I like the characters. I'll pick up Overwatch after a price drop.

I'll be playing both but right now I really like incursion and the TTK in Battleborn more than Overwatch. Overwatch is just to fast for my old reflex right now.

How so you deal with Boldur? He seems indestructible when there is a healer sticking to him. Once you close in he just chases you down.

Finally figured out how to play Caldarius in Meltdown last night. I just stay back, killing minions from afar and moving between lanes. Use the grenade with bleed to encourage Rath/Galilea/Deande to stay back and just keep pecking away at the enemy and retreating when necessary. I had 3 or 4 wins last night with very few kills, maybe 4-5 per match, but a load of assists and minion kills. Plus with his speed upgrade, it makes it easy to collect shards and upgrade turrets/buy minions.

He's definitely a harasser not an assassin.

Yeah I've been playing both and I think I prefer Battleborn more.

It's more tactical while at the same time feeling more fast paced (base movement speed is much faster and you can sprint).

Overwatch seems more polished though. You don't get caught on NPCs or other environmental items like you do on Battleborn, and in general Overwatch seems near perfect relative to what it has set out to achieve. In contrast, Battleborn does not - there are plenty ways in which it could be better.

Balance is also more of an issue in Battleborn, as the high time to kill allows balance issues to be more apparant. In Overwatch TTK is much lower so just about anyone can kill anyone, but in Battleborn it becomes very clear that Oscar Mike is a better character than Whisky Foxtrot when they're presented with a 1 vs 1 scenario.

Overall though, I would say I find everything that's going on much more interesting in Battleborn, it's more diverse and teamwork and synergy are more essential. Kills tend to feel more satisfying and have more of an impact on the match, too. I guess that's a part of what I like about it, Battleborn always escalates to the point where you're at 40 second respawns and kills become really rewarding, so many games end up being pretty tense and strategies shift throughout the game.

I had a few good games with him yesterday, and a few bad ones, but overall I would say he's a pretty non-essential character. Yes, he can harass, but if either team has a support then that harassment becomes almost entirely negated. You wouldn't be able to push Rath out of lane with a Miko, Rayna or Ambra present.

It's easy to stay alive and be a persistent nuance due to his abilities, however I feel that it doesn't have much impact on the overall match to do so. Even in conquest, there's not much he can do to push enemies off the conquest objectives when everyone with range out damages him. Thorn has better sustain and a great AoE and good evasive options with high jump and movement speed enhancements, Bennedict deals much more damage and has better escape options.

Even a solo Miko can push Caldarius out of lane due to DoT Kunai and persistent healing versus Caldarius' low DPS. Every ranged character out damages you at range, and every close range specialist out damages you up close. Caldarius' strength lies in his versatility, with melee and pistol, but what good is melee when people can simply shoot you at point blank range for more damage, and what good is harassing people with his pistol when they deal more damage than you? Saying it's okay because Caldarius can run away and 'sustain' his harassment strategy is a pretty weak defense considering other characters can sustain and escape better than Caldarius, all the while dealing far greater damage.

It doesn't help that I feel that his dash ability is pretty useless. If the enemy is facing you they will deal more damage than the dash does while you dash towards them, if you use it to close in on escaping enemies, it doesn't track so it doesn't hit them if they move at all. If you use it to escape, or to pursue, it gets cut out by elevations in terrain or small environmental objects. It's unreliable and that sucks.

He is also one of the few characters that is hugely affected by the hitbox size of his targets. Characters like Thorn will only take ~ 50% of his spread, even if you're accurate, while characters like Isic take the full 600 damage per clip. It creates a huge amount of variance in his damage output.

I'm in the same boat. I'm playing Overwatch right now, and it's fun, but the mix of slow fps (I thought it would be faster, funny that the "true fps" was slower than Battleborn) with fast ttk, and the bland game modes, places it a bit lower than Battleborn in my priorities.

Tempted to pick this up. I was under the impression that it was incredibly similar to Overwatch (which I'm loving right now, and I'm not usually a fan of FPS), but after watching some videos it looks really MOBA-esque and not really similar to Overwatch at all.

Only thing holding me back is my location, I'm in Korea and not really sure how it would perform server-wise.

Yeah. I'm not hating the overwatch beta, but I'm getting tired of it a lot faster than Battleborn.

I starting to notice the best players try to rush-in on the enemy fast and try to destroy or get the first sentry down to half.

I really hate the way you unlock characters in this game. It seems like you have to grind forever to get anyone. Every two levels doesn't seem too bad, but try playing a bunch of failed games and you'll realize how long it really is. It wouldn't be so bad if you unlocked a new character every 1-2 games. But instead it's like 5-10. It's kind of ridiculous. I'm not sure I want to grind for 10 hours on characters I don't find that appealing to unlock ones that I may. I don't think this would be as much of a problem if the first 6 or so character unlocks had a little more variety.

There's a secondary condition to unlock all the characters that are much easier to achieve than leveling.

About that, does the story have to be done in public games to unlock stuff or does private also work towards rank and unlocks etc? For story that is.

Private works. In fact, I find it preferable to play with friends on advanced difficulty(pretty sure matchmaking defaults to normal, and advanced actually gives additional loot).

Well isn't everyone effected by teamcomp? He definitely has a damage output problem that is only partially solved by his abilities, but I was getting wrecked as him the first few times I played him aggressively and have been having a much better result over several matches now that I am playing him as a harasser. Not trying to win an argument here, just stating that I like the character now that I have changed how I play him.

Really wish we could see what characters people were choosing before they lock in. A team of DPS isn't ideal...

Not strange, as Incursion has a tendency to be a slog. It's better to try to mark the difference when the enemy team isn't defending.

I prefer Meltdown.

A guy playing Bulder had 37 kills in an incursion match I played yesterday! We just had to basically ignore him and hope for the best.

I was playing as Foxtrot and got him to a single ( or maybe two ) bar of health with my special and I was so excited but he did something ( I think he hit R on an aid station that started giving him health ) and didn't die. That was my most exciting moment in the game I think so far, we were all cursing him.

I think I found my shooter character I liked to go along with Mika and Rath / shadow girl on persons shoulder ( forget name sorry ).

Anyone else noticing everyone picks Overgrowth on Incursion mode? Why is that? I've played ~6 Incursion games and have yet to see the other map.

From my limited experience, anyone who was good at kiting and utilising the basic melee push-back would take me down. The throwing-axe is a simple forward-and-back boomerang effect, so it's sidestepped easily if you're paying attention.

His basic attack is very slow between hits, so toe-to-toe against a fast-hitter like Rath he'll lose out.

If you see him, don't panic run. Dodge his charge and then run in a big zig-zag to try and avoid the axe, otherwise he will catch up to you and stun you with the charge.

Also remember he has no normal shields, just his hand-held one which can take 2,000 damage. If you break that, it's a second or two to get a big hit in before the player has a chance to react and change strategy whilst the shield-breaking animation plays.

I've played the other map once. From what I've seen the chokepoints on it are brutal, so defending against the enemy is easier, which makes progress slower. I rather like the other map, though, personally.

Well, the Giantbomb QL went about as I expected; they weren't super hot for the game but at least seemed to admit its quite unique and interesting.

Although, Brad didn't exactly do a good job at playing Rath, heh.

Man, not being able to get through the campaign with randos is depressing. Game just isn't that hard. Then I see damage output stats at the end and I'm like 'what is anyone even doing the whole time'

Layout in Echelon is kind of ehhh, also the map has some serious frame drops on every platform so a lot of people are avoiding it. Downside of Overgrowth is mainly Marquis being able to snipe the sentry from far off.

on pc tried for 30min to get into different vs games... My team was always found quick and yet a opponent team was never found

So odd

I have heard about this online a lot but have yet to actually see it happen. And there are Marquise in almost every match.

I've seen a marquis uselessly shooting a shielded sentry from across the map for a long period of time, which, ironically, made it easier for my team to win.

Does anyone expect the console user base (and PC, for that matter) to grow after the OW beta has ended? The OW beta's expiration date is probably pulling potential players from the game, right?

Unless it just makes more people check it out, the games play completely differently.

I get it, but the similarities are undeniable and OW is making a huge splash. Specifically, people who would be inclined to play BB might be skipping out on it for the time being while they get as much out of the free OW beta as they can.

Legend tells of a map called Coldsnap.

Does it exist? Is it real? Does it show up on the map selection screen for funsies, or is it a real map you can play?

Alas, my pubs will never know.

Really enjoying this so far and the funny thing is how much I'm enjoying the coop missions. I mean, they aren't masters of storytelling of anything but they're their own thing, have some really fun enemies/boss battles and most of all I enjoy being able to take any of my heroes in and rank up my command level/character levels without having to play the multiplayer game. It's just a nice option to have. So much so I'm really thinking about picking up the season pass for the extra story missions that'll be released.

Of course the multiplayer is the main part and it's great too. The more I play it the more I like it/get used to it. Matchmaking seems a bit flakey at times though and I don't think it's numbers of people playing. Had times were we matchmake/find a match and it seems to go a bit haywire and start looking again, eventually disconnecting and saying matchmaking failed. Still regardless of that having a lot of fun with it.

I bought it earlier this week, installed it, played the prologue, and have spent the rest of the week playing the OW beta

so yeah, at least +1

Just played a couple of matches and this game is really good. It feels and plays great.
Only weird thing I find is that if you disable dynamic shadows, you have no shadows anymore which is kinda stupid.

I'm having a terrible time getting a team together for the co-op story missions. I'm suspecting that it's due to me being in NZ and it's placing me with local matchmaking.

Due to the playerbase being so small is causing me problems being in such a small country in a far flung corner of the world.

It would be nice to be able to choose region for matchmaking as I might not be able to play the story at all.

Is "The Saboteur" kind of bugged? In the 2 phase of the last room Nova takes huge amounts of damage without any enemies next to her :(
