Now I'm getting really retro...

tweet this to nintendo please

I'm really hoping Switch will be sold multicolored. Bring back the good ol' days of the Gameboy Color and N64. A violet transparent one would be the shit.

Remember the posts claiming the RDR2 reveal was gonna totally outshine the NX announcement?

I'd look them up, but I don't want to wade through the flood of Switch threads to find them :P

NX talk on social media is incredibly high too. Still trending worldwide on Twitter. Also trending on Facebook with 490k talking about it.

I still don't like how this was revealed. I feel blue balls since aside from the hardware and game teases we got nothing on launch lineup, price, or release date. It should've been all at once to get the message out there since this is their big moment.

Why reveal the console in a 3 minute video. We still barely know anything about it. Do a conference explain the console, specs and show more upcoming games especially third party which Nintendo lacks the majority of their support.

Looks great, I would love to go all digital for this thing but digital game prices are usually not that great here in Australia. Anyway I have been a long time fan of Nintendo portable systems, and this is exactly what I want and I would love to have the TV out dock too.

detachable joy con controllers are stupid and unnecessary. Who plays together on a 7 inch screen.

Everything is fine I guess. 720p screen would be an ideal res of the ARM(?) hw power it has.

Has the docking station additional hw power. It would increase cost if you need to make graphics twice as in 2 socs

I'd love to use those while playing on the couch. With my arms relaxed beside my sides.
One part on each leg.

My current set up is XBOne in the living room and Wii U in the bedroom. Im wondering what kind of support in terms of media apps to expect, because I'd much rather have one of those tiny joycons to control the menus than having to reach over for the gamepad and navigate to play Netflix/Youtube

The thirst was real to even know what the heck this was going to be or even look like. There was more in these 3 minutes than many even thought. But I agree with you, hopefully Nintendo doesn't trickle the info you are asking for this slowly.

Nintendo always waits to reveal a lot of those things.

I keep seeing this. Meanwhile, outside, I see tons of people with big ass Iphone 6/7 plus phones and Samsung Notes. I see families with a kid holding a tablet in tow.

I think these comments are now reaching. Not to mention the tons of people who go out and about with small backpacks and the like. Come on now.

THANK YOU!

I'm not really feeling that launch trailer, to be honest. I don't think the Switch has features that are really relevant to my gaming needs, but it's still early enough for me to be surprised.

This thing doesn't really need a touchscreen, does it?
Would that make it cheaper?
Possibly. As someone mentioned in some other thread today, touchscreens are likely cheaper to produce since they're more commonly needed at small sizes today.

They may not want to do it though, since that leaves a lot of room open for games or apps that could translate poorly to the docked experience.

Did you guys see what Laura said?

I believe the Switch supports swappable new controller sides. Suspect they're not mentioning yet to keep messaging clear.

Just imagine the possibilities of Controller schemes

This is why I'm not that worried about the button d-pad. Surely there'll be a joy-con with a more traditional d-pad.

Maybe even one with symmetrical sticks for those that prefer that.

I'm guessing the exposed top part of the screen while docked could or would be used for notifications and things like that. Even just a basic PS4 light bar idea? Strange they never made the dock show the entire screen so it could be used for various purposes instead.

but we don't have the technical data, right??

I am looking for a line like this.

"Switch has this RAM, this CPU, that GPU and therefore, PS4/X1 games like we know them (Souls games, for example)) are just not possible, therefore 3rd party support is not only doubtful, it's not possible at all".

Nope, no official technical data yet. Probably wait until next week's investor's call for that.

Fuck I hope so. Give me symmetrical sticks and solid dpad and I'll never need the "pro" controller.

For this not to have a touchscreen and massively reduce gameplay and input options would be utterly retarded, just so as to not mess with the docked mode. C'mon of course it'll be a touchscreen. This is modern day and it probably costs about 50 cents to make it a touchscreen versus not.

As for mock ups can I please see a GameCube purple!?

I wonder if they'll give the system and developers the flexibility of making handheld only games that don't offer docked modes and vice versa. This thing is obviously gonna replace the 3DS (no matter what 3rd pillar line Nintendo tries to feed us). If all games are required to have a console mode, it's really gonna kill off smaller, quickies DS/3DS type games.

So is this thing going to be more powerful than the Wii U or not? With the news having come out that the dock doesn't give any extra power what are we looking at? Additionally, people say here all the time Vita and PSP never really took off because no one really wanted console style games on the go... yet here this is.

I better get a splatoon themed controller. And a Zelda one. If there's a Xenoblade one I'll freak. C'mon Nintendo this is a goldmine.

I'm sure this has been posted:

Hope she's right. Price info would be enlightening.

Yeah, Nintendo can make some good money! And I feel like Laura needs her own topic with everything she's saying lol

Yes! Exactly what we were hoping. I imagine youre psyched by today's news, BTW. :)

I almost cried seeing 3D Mario lol

At first I thought "Nintendo announces another underpowered gimmick console" but after watching that video I'm convinced at the potential. Even if it's underpowered it's still the most powerful dedicated handheld.

Oh man this looks awesome. I haven't been this excited for a console since I was a kid.

Also saw that FromSoftware is listed as one of the third-party devs! Yes yes yes

FINALLY a Nintendo product I will buy that's not some stupid gimmick. I can finally play all their WiiU games and probably other remakes with a normal fucking controller.

Exactly

Leftie people finally could have its custom pad.

I see what you mean. Revealing it without games feels like it rings a little hollow. Waiting all this time and then only teasing feels a little mean.

I think, think that what they're going for is to try and drum up some word of mouth. Give people just enough to get them talking, speculating, and let it build up a little until a fuller reveal. I could see them doing a Direct focusing on a variety of Switch games any time between next week and the end of the year.
What's the joke ffs?
It's supposed to look like that Loss web comic, where the guys walks into to find out about his wife's miscarrige. No idea why that thing is well known or reference ever, but it seems to be a recurring joke.

I just feel bad for the dog...

Seriously though, definitely an interesting concept. I personally think that battery life on the portable unit will decide this console's success. I think showing Skyrim (a nearly 6 year old game) for a third of their trailer was a mistake, at least for me it didn't fill me with interest the way the Zelda snippet did.

Sure. But in the meantime I gather that we're jettisoning the old architecture that saw the Wii and Wii U have complete backwards compatibility with their predecessors.

Certainly; but on the plus side, I do recall being rather shocked at how well Dolphin (the emulator) performed on a Shield - in high res, too! It is not entirely infeasible to enable software back-compat on a Tegra chipset like this.
