BioWare trusts its players and therefore Dragon Age: The Veilguard will not use Denuvo

Another one of those games you can't pre-purchase outside of EA, Epic or Steam, so no way to get it under 59.99€ on day 1.

Yeah it's going to get pirated.

Anyone have a tl;dr? I will watch the full video when I have time later.

Here's a roughly one-page TLDR summary of the key points from the conversation:

TLDR:

  • Jonathan, a playtester for Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, shared his impressions of the game.
  • The game's story and characters seem disconnected from previous Dragon Age lore.
  • The player character is randomly selected from a bar, lacking a compelling origin story.
  • Modern gender identity concepts like "non-binary" are awkwardly inserted into the fantasy setting.
  • Romance options are limited for heterosexual characters but open for others.
  • The main antagonist, Solas, is sidelined for most of the game until the very end.
  • Returning characters like Varric and Morrigan are reduced to advisor roles with limited interaction.
  • The Grey Warden companion lacks knowledge about the order's history and lore.
  • There's little reference to or continuation of storylines from previous games.
  • The game features numerous fetch quests and "walking simulator" segments.
  • Playtesting feedback, especially from fans of the series, was largely ignored.
  • The ending has some variations, but 90% of the game is the same regardless of choices.
  • Graphics and character models were described as poor quality, similar to Mass Effect: Andromeda.
  • Jonathan believes this game could be "the end" for BioWare due to its perceived low quality.
  • He recommends players use EA's subscription service rather than buying the game outright.
  • Overall, Jonathan expressed deep disappointment with the game as a long-time Dragon Age fan.
  • He feels the game strays too far from what made the original Dragon Age: Origins great.
  • The conversation suggests that Dragon Age: Dreadwolf may struggle to meet fan expectations.

The playtester's account paints a concerning picture for fans of the Dragon Age series, indicating significant departures from established lore and gameplay elements that made previous entries popular. However, it's important to note that this is one person's perspective from an early build, and the final game may differ.

Honestly that sounds like bullshit?

Most of the plot-characters points could be inferred from the trailers, and we also have footage that Rook wasn’t randomly selected from a bar, he was working with Varric before and the backstory is a choice from the CC.

People are getting too hung up on the details. The overall story or the characters won't matter as you are getting beat over the head with LGBTQ+ rhetoric. Shit is going to be unbelievably cringe.

I'm okay with this, considering Dragon Age 2.

I'm okay with this, considering Dragon Age Origins: Awakening.
This Is Fine GIF

Thanks for this. Gives a really good idea of the combat.

One thing that is really starting to bother me is how supposed "tanks" in "heavy armor" still roll and slide around, literally jump across the battlefield, and it's as though they are acrobats wearing leotards. Lords of the Fallen was like this. I wore the heaviest armor possible, and wielded a grand hammer. However, once I put a "lightweight" rune on my weapon, suddenly I am free to dodge and roll like I am in the thieves guild.

And what if we don’t?

I saw like 2 hours of the game and didn’t saw any LGBTQ+ rhetoric, and considering that the companions are player-sexual, I’m expecting something similar to BG3 there.

Or BG3 is woke now?

Why does this feel like someone asking for petty cash? No DRM, no EA store, no MTX, normal price, decent system requirements. Either this game will be the biggest (good) surprise of the year or they know its a massive L and theyre just trying to score good boy points before the shitshow.
I expect the latter but I hope I'm wrong. I expect rave critic reviews but meh player reviews.

I'm extremely excited for the release of this one now honestly, just not to play it. The memes are going to be amazing.

Yeah. I hear that the game really leans on the woke agenda.

It is totally beginning to backfire on the industry. The tide is turning.

I still bought it because it is Dragon Age.

Yeah it's going to get pirated.
It can be pre-ordered on the usual key seller sites for <50€.
Not that that's gonna help, just correcting....

Sounds just awful. Not even a Dragon Age game.

This game is getting so much negative early word of mouth, no one is going to want to pirate it anyways

So really this is EA Bioware just saving money on the Denuvo licensing fees that's it

Yeah. I probably should have waited for the later keyshop sales.

I think I did snag it for a cheaper price. I would have to check.

From what they’ve shown so far, the gameplay looks pretty solid to me. I’m not sure I understand all the negativity. Of course, there’s always a chance it could prioritize DEI in ways that feel forced, but I think we’ll only know for sure once the game is released.
Yeah. I think it will be fine. It will be kind of like what was done with Doctor Who.

Cool, but this is irrelevant. ‘EA’ is not what’s on sale in storefronts. It’s Dragon Age: Veilguard.

And the topic under discussion is how far they’re going to reduce many of the popular pain points for players. Steamdeck compatibility, no EA launcher, very approachable specs, no Denuvo.

for consumers, each game is its own unique entity. Why should FIFA or FC matter to anyone who’s considering buying Dragon Age?

Had to confirm I wasn’t on Resetera when I saw this post filled with ‘outrage-by-association’
Almost guaranteed that EA made the decision. If EA had told Bioware they wanted Denuvo, we would have it. Maybe BioWare went to bat for the players and convinced EA not to add DRM, but make no mistake, EA has the final say.

Look at the guy’s channel. He’s obsessed with shitting on the game. Why do Gaffers post videos of nutjobs like Endymion or this clown? They have 0 credibility.

Well … I do see Forspoken mentioned. They’re probably on the right track.
