Black Panther: Wakanda Forever | Official Trailer

Only watched it on mute so far, but fuck that looks good. I suppose this will serve as a transition story, where the side characters get to shine in lieu of the new Black Panther being groomed for the third film. The shot of the claws might well be Shuri or Nakia donning the suit. Maybe Okoye, as she was the most badass side character. M'Baku doesn't seem to have taken the role, as we see him fighting with his normal getup.

I haven't followed anything with the production, but expect Coogler to honor Chadwick's death through the narrative. I expect all the feels during this movie. Should be great. Gonna be geeking out a lot watching New Rockstars cover all the easter eggs in this trailer.

0 excitement for it. Don't care for Shuri, didnt like her at all in BP, 0 charm. Maybe she'll grow to be great but I highly doubt it.

So the whole "earthquake under the ocean" wasn't just a throw away line in Endgame.

It was. Has no connection to this:

Lake Bell's character (apparently working for Doom as revealed in the credits) is looking for Vibranium in the Ocean (the ship in the trailer). They awaken Namor when using a device made by Riri Williams. He goes nuts, kills the crew, and Riri goes to Wakanda who protects her from Namor who wants to kill her.

They're in a tricky situation in that a lot of their fanbase for Black Panther are rather too attached to Chadwick. I doubt they'd have taken a recast well at all.

That said, I think a lot of that fanbase will like a female Black Panther, and it is available in the comic book lore so...

My opinion is that they should have gone with a recast anyway. They simply don't have a change in Black Panther set up.

Other than that it looks great, and I like the that it's not just about Wakanda. The title is uninspired though.

I think Chadwick was so perfect fit for the Black Panther that leaving that charecter for him as legacy and starting a new road with a female one fits well here. Not just sure about the casting.

I reckon it might cause them issues later. He played the character very well, but I'm not a fan of these 'we should forever have this actor be this character'. Characters are timeless, individual people are not.

Days like these...

I've changed my mind about Namor. As a brown skinned Mexican I'm excited about a "Mexican looking" Mexican having representation and a major role in a mainstream film as opposed to being comedic relief or the typical "thug, gangster" role. Don't @ me with your faux outrage about "Mexican looking Mexican" yes I know there are white Mexicans and they have been over represented forever in film and TV just look at any Mexican soap. /rant over.

My issue was never his look or skin color. I just think he should have more of shredded swimmers build.

I really need to write out my rant about how much I fucking hate reaction videos, I also need to do one about how fucking awful Youtube thumbnails are when it come to film-related content.

YouTube in general is trash. It's all about working the algorithm. That's why even the simplest video is at least 10 minutes (the algorithm favors that) and you see channels posting at least three videos a day, all about the same bullshit outrage bit just with a different thumbnail with red eyes.

So the person being a racist shit head in the first film is now going to be Black Panther? Great, I wonder how many times she will continue to demonize the ”colonizers” this time?

Honestly if it wasn’t for her, I would have enjoyed the first movie a lot more. Namor looks great and I think I am far more interested in that almost aztecian design than I am for anything in Wakanda.

Not expecting much from the movies as I thought the original was on the weaker end of Marvel movies.

But that was an awesome trailer.

Yeah, she saved Ross’ life and was more concerned about his survival rather than him risking it by shooting down the remaining weapon ship. What a fucking bitch, amirite?

Edit: Oh yeah, and she helped oversee Bucky’s recovery and referred to him respectfully as “Sergeant Barnes”. Racist bitch needs to fuck off clearly.

All the while constantly demeaning and insulting him because of the color of his skin. So we should just ignore that? If the roles were reversed, the movie would never have been released and the writers would be fired.

But hey, racism is OK as long as it is against certain people I guess?

Constantly doing what?! LMBO! Lemme guess... White people are the TRULY oppressed people?

She called him "colonizer" ONCE and he's an outsider from Wakanda. Meanwhile, there was ish happening so if she was short to him, that's why. And in Wakanda's history, it seems that there's been ONLY 2 white people to be within their barriers (not the public face, the private space behind the holograms) ... So her joke about "helping another broken white boy" gets your knickers in a twist? In America's whole history, THIS gets you angry? LMBO!

Okay, I did forget about the “broken white boy” line. But, geezus, he is white, right? And white people aren’t typically in Wakanda. Like, calling that racist implies you’ve never used phrases like “black guy” or “Asian dude” which I doubt.

Like, lighten up, bruh.

Besides, I’d be Shuri’s “broken white boy” any day.

No seriously, I think she’s cute, plus she’s super smart, can kick ass, and is just charming.

True, Wakanda seems to be EXTREMELY xenophobic, just look at their incredible lack of diversity, thus it isn't a stretch to think they are quite racist towards other ethnicities. Compare them to feudal Japan, for example. Seems like a good bit of storytelling to have them finally get broad exposure to the outside world and have their insular and backwards views (rulers are determined by mortal combat, really??? and what does their king do to someone who starts thinking independently?) challenged by the more progressive and inclusive cultures surrounding them.

Wakanda is actually more progressive than their surrounding countries. They're more isolationist than xenophobic. Japan is a poor comparison. They're more like 1930s USA. Isolationist so much that they couldn't be bothered with quelling a world war until THEY were attacked. T'Challa opened up Wakanda to be a beacon of hope to the rest of the world...

Did you actually watch the movie because it doesn't seem like you did.

How is Wakanada progressive? They have a strong tribal hierarchy where one tribe is even more isolationist than the rest. They select their ruler based on violence. They maintain control through force (the female bodyguard corps was willing to back Killmonger even when they KNEW he was dragging them into a racial world war because "that's the job and he won the fight") not diplomacy. They have an incredibly strong anti-inclusionary and anti-immigrant policy as well as strong segregationist tendencies, only blood relations matter and even with outposts across the planet there is ZERO evidence they EVER have kids outside of their own ethnicity.

Just 'cause they let women be Queens or fight doesn't make them progressive, any more than the Libyan female bodyguard force made that country progressive.

Obviously I'm joking a bit here, but if you remove your personal bias out and just look at the objective presentation of Wakanda through the films, they are NOT some sort of super-liberal utopia. ASGARD has more diversity than Wakanda!

Lemme go in no particular order on your points:

- yes they have war dogs (spies) in every corner of the globe and they don't seem to have kids with other ethnicities. And this is a problem how? Most white people marry and have kids with other white people. Most black people marry and have kids with other black people. Same for Asians, Native American (that can be argued a bit) ... And I'm not sure about Latinos as there is so much mixture that people who look Taino actually aren't... Unless you're going to say that the white on white marriages are Because they're racist?

- they're progressive in that they have open gay/lesbian romances and pairings. This is canon in the comics and, undoubtedly, in the MCU. Ryan Coogler has said as much.

-yes they're isolationist but not racist. And they have NO immigration policy, not even to other African nations. When they were in South Korea, they obeyed the laws, showed respect for their customs and at least one spoke the local language (can't remember who). They're respectful of all cultures ... It's their tradition to be isolationist... Because they saw all the war around them and CHOSE to remain hidden... This was also an edict by Bast, the Panther Goddess.

- as I said... Tradition meant the Dora Milaje stuck by whoever the king was. That's their duty... They don't follow one man or woman ... They follow the throne. The only reason they turned FROM the throne is because T'Challa wasn't dead. Their ritual combat didn't have to end in death as shown with M'Baku... Making it so that their ritual could be won by anyone who challenged the king/queen or would-be king/queen.

Oh yeah, I forgot! Wakanda is made up multiple tribes with multiple religions... Someone can be ethnically Ethiopian and another can be ethnically Kenyan. They're all still Wakandans. Even here in America, someone can be ethnically Chinese and another can be ethnically Zambian and yet another can be ethnically British... Yet all Americans.

Letitia Wright doesn't look like this to be fair. Shuri in the MCU certainly does not match up with that pic.
It's hard to match comic book physiques perfectly but considering that frame, Lupita or Danai fits the look much closer.

Leticia is a bit smaller but I think she can pull it off alright.

The physical build at the end didn't look like Shuri. Letitia Wright isn't that broad up top. She's way thin!

I am not arguing in favor of progressive or not and frankly I don't care either way. It's just a made up comic book place to me and it's entertaining so I'll watch either way without judgement.

But I just wanted to point out that you whole counterargument boiled down to "it's tradition." Like yeah dude a lot of the ideologies we frown upon today were tradition until they weren't. It's not a valid argument.
The gay and lesbian pairings is one aspect. A culture can be progressive in one way and regressive in others. I can draw a million parallels from societies today.

It's not just her physique, and a lovely physique it is. I just feel her character wasn't developed enough to justify her becoming black panther. She was an annoying little sister.

I haven't seen the movie in forever, but I thought those bits were jokes (bad predictable jokes, but still jokes). I thought the first Black Panther was pretty mediocre myself, with meh dialogue, characterizations, and un-convincing developments --I don't feel like the ruler of a powerful nation with a powerful history of self-sustaining isolation would, seemingly overnight, change his mind and open Wakanda up to worldly affairs because he feels bad for the bad guy. Like c'mon, a change like that needs more power, self-realization, some kind of larger development. I wasn't feeling it there. The director needs to quit watching the news and start reading some good historic books. The world of Wakanda has a ton of potential, but it ain't gonna be realized if T'Challa's dad was "wrong" just cuz, or have dumb American jokes and political commentary sprinkled in cause, I don't know, the director lives in the moment, Trump is president, and he don't like the dumb wall being used to prevent trouble from coming in, when Wakanda (USA) is so rich and has so much to offer the rest of the world, and poor Killmonger and others like him, waaaahhhhh!

The moment now, however, is that Chadwick Boseman is no longer with us. Plus, we seem to be slowly getting away from that injustice victim mentality (I hope, anyway). I'm hopeful that we'll see further world-building for Wakanda, and I expect 'honor', 'legacy' and such to actually be revered much more convincingly, as the production crew has a more personal connection with T'Challa's passing, and his sister taking up the mantle... will depend on how they handle it. Shuri is not fit for ANY kind of combat, but she is suppose to be super smart. I don't think the writers have got the chops/brains to write a 'super smart' character, more so, one that'll need brains to build suit, weaponry, and outwit foes to fill in a VERY huge physical deficit, as she looks like someone who'd throw a punch that comes off more like a light slap. But hey, we all like watching the underdog pull through tough odds. Hopefully Wakanda Forever can surprise me. I plan on watching it as I am a fan of Letitia Wright (love her faith and personality, and she's largely non-political), and I loved Chadwick, and man did he go too soon.

Hopefully the movie turns out really good. It'd be a pleasant surprise for me. The trailer doesn't tell me much about the quality of the story, but it was very pretty and I liked the music. Stick to that style, and less of the rap stuff, and I'll be singing this soundtrack's praises.

She developed all of Wakanda's tech.

She developed the tech but she showed NO fighting ability! Chadwick actually had training to pull it off. Letitia hasn't. And she was blipped along with T'Challa. I don't think she'll be the new BP. Might actually be either Nakia or Okoye. I'd much rather it be a new T'Challa from the multiverse.
