Bonus Round: Dissecting The Microsoft Press Conference

1) People are abandoning cable television and turning toward services such as Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, DVR, etc. This is a problem. The PS4 will be getting Netflix and Hulu definitely.

2) Younger demographics are abandoning television in general. Statistics have shown that younger people are spending more and more time on the Internet and on devices like cell phones. This is a problem.

3) Sony did not showcase their actual hardware, but they were more forthcoming with specs. They also didn't bullshit people with dubious claims about a cloud.

I gave the Microsoft conference a D and I thought that was incredibly generous.

true ... but the thing is - this reveal was never meant to be about games ... and they even specifically said that before it even began. So I don't really know what people were expecting to see there.

I know, but like I said, a lot of people were only interested in the games, and that made the actual unveiling a disappointment.

You accuse him of repeating it too often and then demonstrate you don't actually understand the point he's making. He doesn't argue that it being software justifies any particular drm scheme, but that it being software lends credence to the claim that much of this has yet to be decided.

Tell me that again when he still continues using this excuse even when the Xbone comes out having all those measures installed by saying "hey guys don't worry they can change it whenever they want! It's only software!!"

We all know that software can be changed or adjusted. The question here is do these publishers want to change it just because of a community backlash and risk not meeting up with their annual projections or do they proceed as planned and test their consumer's tolerance before they make adjustments?

Keighley keeps repeating this as if he wants us to stop complaining about these policies but if we stop complaining about them then why should MS bother changing the software?
Which leads me that the only reason he keeps blabbing about it is because he wants to do damage control.

2 minutes in and it's coming off like a bunch of people scared to bite the hand that feeds them. Grading is hard because it depends on who you're grading for? What? C'mon, Garnett. Stop trying to walk the tight-wire and give an opinion for once. It's gotta be tough to do that when you're not just playing devil's advocate all the time.

I was more interested what else it can do. I can understand people being hugely disappointed with the unveiling if they were just interested in games, however.

Cool, so you can understand people who MS already adressed a few days ago, and people who MS will adress in a few days. And you don't think the PR problem is that much of a deal. Now thats a little rebel boy. Good boy.

You sound a little like this Alex character, say...

Gaikai streaming the entire PS3 catalog seems kindof dubious. Didn't that come straight from them?

It was a concept thing. Certainly could turn out to be a lot of hot air (which would make that Gaikai acquisition look reaaaaal smart, ha), but I think saying "here's what we aim to do" is more welcome than saying "it'll use the cloud for computation". One is a lot more ambiguous than the other.

At the very least, Gaikai has actually been out there in the wild, and people have been able to see if it works at all (which, eh, improvement needed from what I tried).

I am friggin 24 years old. I think I am a bit too old to be a fanboy like him, don't you think? I said bar the PR, i.e, as I think it has been poor and they need to get their shit together.

Yeah - just saying they've been a little dubious with some cloud talk is all, to be fair. On the other hand MS has gone full on, I don't even have the word for whatever it is they're doing.

But its making me look forward to e3. I've never seen truly infinite power before.

I didn't say that whatsoever. Reading comprehension is fundamental.
I think he was making a funny.

Your avatar begs to differ. :p

But ok, let us just say you enjoy sports then. Nothing wrong with that. American sports.

Sure, I've done that whole walking across the surface of the sun thing. And I've banged, like 10 chicks at once. And I mean, literally at the exact same moment in time, as most of you humans experience it.

I've even created life. Scribbles mostly, but self replicating all the same.

But when you think about it, that all pales in comparison to Microsoft's cloud talk.

What is more likely? Them getting games to stream (which has happened before) or Microsoft pulling magical secret processing power from the cloud? Apples and oranges.
But both "dubious". I can't wait to see both.

What the fuck at Alex?

"TVs are soo big I don't really want to see my football all in 55""

People sometimes sit with their mobile phone tweeting or the likes when watching something, but who the hell buys a glorious 55" TV to watch their content in 37"?

Well he needs to grow-up then. Also, stop making assumptions about me, as I don't watch American sports and never have done.

I really don't know what's worse. This sad video or that Geoff has chosen him to comment on GT?

Don't know why they would let a fanboy on the show. All he says is, i'm gonna buy it, i'm gonna buy it. This and that is great. TV is great, that's what I always wanted, blah blah. There is no constructive discussion. Fortunately there were Garnett and Andrea.

It really warms my heart to know that the future of gaming journalism is in the capable hands of grinning, smug, vacuous hipsters who love nothing more than a good schilling.

Someone call Julian Rignall. We need him back.

Yeah, that was just a hilarious case of spin. I hate anything that takes up screen real estate on my television that isn't the actual show. Network bugs, especially when they are animated ads, are especially aggravating.

Nicely done.

Yeah I am not holding my breath over their claims. If they do live up to it then great, but I remain dubious until then.

Maybe because we keep talking about it and they are keep getting hits? :p
Seriously this is Kotaku level of trolling.

Looks like this was a E3 preview too. They said they were gonna do Sony and Nintendo the week after and the one after that.

I agree with Garnett about the TV stuff. It doesn't really offer anything new. It's a nice feature that makes switching from games and TV much easier, but it isn't exactly offering anything particularly compelling to attract a wider audience. I can't see the rights to the NFL being only for Xbox. It also holds no relevance outside the States.

Who the hell wants to pay $400 for a stupid overlay?

I loved that, "What's in there!" I heard that the cpu might be 40nm? If thats the case it's for cooling reasons like thay one dude said.

Well, the Jaguar architecture uses a 28nm process. Would seem an odd decision to change that.

I think it is probably for cooling reasons as well, but it could be more to do with making sure they avoid the RROD issues that plagued them with the 360.

Even tough I disagree with Alex, he is the main target audience for MS. He even said that he would buy a xbone no matter what.

Really, if you watched that abortion of a press conference (the Xbone reveal) and wondered "How in the fuck could the Microsoft team think this conference was a good idea?" all you have to do is look at a guy like Alex Albrecht.

If Microsoft is surrounded by guys like Alex Albrecht, who are ready to take a knee and give out money and effusive editorial blowjobs to anything with an XBox logo attached, it's easy for Microsoft to make these kinds of mistakes. It's easy to get overconfident. And they clearly have.

It's the danger of living in an echo chamber where you are surrounded by fanboys telling you how great you are. Alex may think he's helping Microsoft by being such a loyal fanboy, when in reality, he's a big part of the problem.

At least Alex is being honest, unlike most people on this forum. People that act outraged have their own blatant fanboyism they aren't willing to admit.

then they should have done it as a Microsoft new product unveiling or something instead of "xbox, a new generation" and then streaming on gametrailers and broadcasting on spike.

Even tough I disagree with Alex, he is the main target audience for MS. He even said that he would buy a xbone no matter what.

I will point out that Alex admitted he was ready to buy the new Xbox years ago. He also said the main reason for wanting it was for the games. He does like the TV features though, yeah.

I think Microsoft's target audience is far broader than people like Alex.

A forum of potential customers raising holy hell about really anti-consumer policies is a sign of widespread latent fanboyism? Whatever helps you sleep at night dude.

This kind of thinking is crazy. I'd be willing to bet that majority of people outraged by the ONE put most of their console time towards the 360 this gen.

But then again, both of us would be pulling things out of our asses.

Holy fuck at this Alex dude ahaha. How can one person talk so much bullshit in such a short amount of time is beyond me. Garnette was on point.
