That sounds awfully close. Too close to be real. I have a dentist's appointment on the 7th and that feels too close for comfort as well.

Once it does get finished, and has been stable and not fallen into the sea again for a couple of weeks, I fancy taking a trip down that way as I've never ridden that line and it looks awesome. Can't be arsed to go all the way to Penzance though, so you likely to be around if I just pop into Dawlish instead?

I feel that it's too close to be a realistic timeframe myself. Just under 2 weeks until we find out I guess.

Ta! I'm proud of the fact that I seem get away with it at least. I've found the perfect job for my temperament, which is to say lots of dossing interspersed with periods of intense work, long hours and ultra-stress. Which is actually pretty fun every now and then.

My boss was in the office with me on Friday, let me go home early. When I asked if I could he laughed at me and said I could do what I wanted. Love my job.

This actually sums up most contract based or bid based jobs. For engineering, this is just how it works, and it's actually quite nice.

I've worked in records management (aka corporate memory) for pharma & biotech, if there are secret cancer cures these companies somehow have managed to keep secrets from themselves (and quite honestly, the chaos that these places consider archives would prevent that as thery have to keep everything ever). There are treatments to delay the effects of a few cancers but these tend to be radiation/chemo/surgery based but there is no one size fits all. Other than a couple of examples, biological treatments are beginning to make their way into Phase trials but anything promising will be years from market even if fast tracked.

Also, that's probably the closest she's been to cleaning her face in months.

Bullshit, many rich / powerful people die of Cancer. On top of that, there never will be a "cure" simply as there are so many types of every variety that a catch all cure is impossible.

What we can hope for (and this defies that image even more) is that they can make you live with it, with treatment / a drug. Which makes you a longer term customer to the healthcare sector. There are constantly breakthroughs that make cancers of all types less lethal.

All I guess I wanna say is that its not paranoia, the subject of witholding cures in order for the pharmaceutical companies to financially benefit is not a conspiracist theory anymore, this subject is discussed very openly on TV now, ever watched shows like the Wright Stuff, pretty mainstream! You also need to consider this very poignant fact; the government is allowing a very known very harmful, very deadly substance called tobacco to remain in legal flow - they simply make too much money in profits from it, AND, ahum, alcohol.

Hmmm, I don't know if I'd consider the Wright Stuff to be an unimpeachable source, and people talking about something doesn't mean it's true. Remember MMR+autism and how all the paranoiacs were wrong because of one rogue doctor talking shite? Handwringing and well meaning concern mean nothing when the basic premise your operating from means nothing.
but it's definitely the very definition of a conspiracy theory. Theoretical since it's unproven. Conspiracy because it's a group of people colluding in order to effect change/keep secrets etc.
I have more faith in the human race to believe that BIG PHARMA are purposefully withholding treatments for something like cancer (something with a huge public interest that I don't believe they could ever cover up). You're discounting the work of thousands and insinuating an entire industry (made of people) is not only corrupt but evil - there is an ever expanding cornucopia of illnesses for them to market to and the ghoulishness of prolonging cancer for money is almost unthinkable. That said, I think that the real issue with medicines is in the mental health fields, there's something that we can all agree on, pills instead of therapy.
And I think that tobacco and alcohol is an entirely different prospect decided by an entirely different part of the government. Entrenched in society and therefore a ban would be unenforceable, massive tax revenues - instead of banning it they should open the floodgates and legalise/tax everything but I'm a dirty hippy.
And I flat out know that if you or heavens forbid you family developed cancer then you would want any and all treatment possible. Anything else is negligent, there's no other way to put it.

Well, technically speaking I'd say I have a fairly average chance if applications to the course are low at my chosen universities. I just have to hope they take on board my age and do not dwell on my previous education which, whilst not bring entirely terrible, does not put me in the category of "Massively motivated hard-workers". I hope my personal statement is enough to show my passion and drive whilst not depicting me as a naive fuckwit that wants to be Bill Gates

I don't, I'm just shy of entry requirements with a Level 3 Extended Diploma (MMM) They usually want a DMM, I do have a few things here and there that mean I believe I do have enough UCAS points to get in however

It's a pretty sweet degree and it's why I'm taking it, I know it will be stretching but I'm wasting my potential behind a bar, I finish my apprenticeship in Licensing and hospitality in May and will have the world of catering opened up to me, which after a year in the business, is simply not for me, without trying to sound too big-headed, I'm better than that.

I remember a while back going on a road trip with Mikeside and Jedeye up to London to go to a small GAF meet.. On the way I talked about this pub job and Mike expressed that I should find something better, because working behind or even running a bar isn't exactly the most stretching/rewarding position... At the time I thought little of it but as time went on I did start to question this job, then I was interrupted by serious family problems (sister lost the plot, tried to top herself and ended up in a loony bin for a bit, family friend topped herself successfully and my parents were *and still are* in financial ruin whilst I'm >150 miles away with £50 /week to my name which I don't see any of) Kinda numbed me for a bit, a few months by and I just kinda dealt with the mundane/hopeless setting that surrounded me and after moving back into a family friends house I started to look for new work/potential career paths.
I only ended up looking at University after someone on GAF told me to look into environmental science (which I was hilariously under-qualified for). Not deterred I looked into foundation years and access courses and Computer science caught my eye. I looked at the year-by-year briefs and I just decided there and then that that is what I want to do. I love logic based things and learning the foundations of how things work, I may struggle at times with computing but I can work hard when I have the drive. I've essentially decided that I want to become a Software Engineer. Without trying to be angsty as fuck, I don't give a toss if anyone thinks it's a bad idea because I'm going for it.
I rang my local Uni asking about access courses and they said I may aswell apply because if my statement displays enough passion (Which I think it has) I have a strong chance of getting in.

I think being strict about central London and 22k+ is keeping me down, but I've got a few months to keep looking before I lower my standards & go for anything on the tube line for 20k+.


I'm deciding right now whether it might actually be worth looking at Surrey jobs for a while. I've seen a few that looked good for around 25k. I could commute to those from Kingston or somehow and still be London enough for my current needs
