There was a great one that I didn't post because I am too pussy.
Trying to finish A Clash of Kings which I've had for.. a while. The hardest part of reading it is the unnecessarily long and descriptive sex scenes that seems to happen every 2 pages. I wouldn't even mind it but all I imagine while reading it is not the acts of sex themselves but GRRM writing the scenes down and getting a little too into it.

Give FFX-2 a go at least. The whole thing seems a lot more self aware of how dumb it is and has a fun combat system to boot.

There is a sex scene with one of the female POV characters in A Dance with Dragons that is brilliantly vulgar. I've still not decided if it is the best or worst bits of writing in the series.
Still better than all the food porn, mind.
And FFX is an awful game. Turned me completely off the series. IX, now there is a great JRPG with loveable characters.
EDIT: Jed is right about DQ V. It (and DQ IV) is an absolutely brilliant RPG, the plotting of the game is simple yet very touching.

tbh I've found FF to be vastly over-rated all across every one I've tried. FFVI was pretty good but didn't exactly blow my mind. FFT is fun but grindy, FFX I played a bit of, never stuck with me.
Before you give up on the genre entirely, please try Dragon Quest 5 and/or Chrono Trigger (both on DS). DQ is sincerely one of the best games I've ever played and fixed lots of the niggles I have with FF (particularly the 16bit era games). I'm in the minority that thinks DQ is way better then CT, but I think that's because most people haven't played DQ5.

I've rediscovered the joys of X Com on my 5S. Looks and runs great but the phone could heat my house after about ten minutes. I wish FTL was universal.

I'm convinced GRRM starves himself to kindle his imagination and give himself the inspiration to write descriptions of feasts that go for several pages.
Then he rewards himself by eating twenty big macs and hibernating for six months. This is why his books take so long to write.

Oh god totally, I tried a bunch of high-spec games out when I got my 5S but the way they eat battery was just too much. My phone is on 20% by the time I get home from work anyway, a game would eat that up in an hour. Booo
I wish they'd release the DLC/expansion on iOS though. iOS >>> every other platform for playing strategy games.

I dunno guys. I respect you all, but I think I'm a lost cause. I just don't get it. Including Persona, that's 60 quid on Japanese teenagers being squawky. I'll just stick with Borderlands 2. It's shonky, but I get it.

But at least I've worked out why I don't get on with them - it's the naivete. I don't think it's false but I can't stand it. Probably the same reason I have a gigantic hardback paperweight of Nausicaa. I. Don't. Get. It.

I don't think I've played more than an hour of any of them since FFVII. Last time I tried was 13. Fell asleep during the intro and took that as a sign to stop.

I'm with ya, sploat. I can't get on with Final Fantasy games or Persona either.
I really did give Persona 4 Golden a fair shake (30-odd hours) and I've promised myself that one day I will go back and play the whole thing, but I just don't get it.
Now, Borderlands 2, that I get. My gun becomes a fucking grenade when I reload it.

I think that was the one flaw with DQV. You spent all that time in the beginning with Bianca that when it came to a choice it felt like it was pushing you towards her. The original didn't even have a scene on the boat where you talked to her sisters, so prior you had like, no interaction with Nera (Debora was new to the DS version as well).

I'll just wait until 2015 for the release of Dragon Quest VII
on iOS/Android because Nintendo won't pull their finger out
