Lol Broad Street. haha. Birmingham and York would be top picks considering law schools on the rank of the strength of their law school and employment prospects. Speaking to a few fellow law students, more law firms are now seeking out non law graduates for employment and training schemes.

QuicheFontaine and Phisheep are lawyers in training and lawyers. It may be very useful speaking to these two gaffers, considering they could have great insight into the way law firms operate on ranking universities for applications.

I was also surprised to learn from a few friends that little, if not nothing at all you learn on your law course is employed in the your law firm practice outside some specialisms and basic theorems.

Sorry, I feel like I should clarify; this is the big quarterly UK furmeet, it's in Manchester. It's not a big thing BritGAF wise, I just thought I'd swing by and say hello to CHEEZMO™.

I'm confused, is CHEEZMO a Disney property?

Broad Street's decent for a night out. You got Gatecrasher on the one side, and a shit load of bars on the other. What's not to love about it?

Probably because I've lived in Birmingham my entire life until moving to London over a year ago and realising how superior it is (in terms of possibilities for leisure). There are, of course, downsides.

Comparing Birmingham's nightlife to that of London is like comparing Milka to Cadbury. It's nice but it ain't quite right.

Happy Birthday Dapper, I always forget you're older than me with that baby face of yours

Also hey guys I'm drunk, nice to meet you

Take Liverpool?

Congrats on the offers! I'd definitely go and visit Liverpool, it's a great city, and the nightlife generally is fantastic if that's what your after.

Birmingham had a beautiful campus when I visited, absolutely huge to boot. York....the campus was visually offensive being full of concrete monstrosities, but I've no doubt as to the quality of the teaching there.

Morning. I'll leave this here:

Did you ever want to set someone's head on fire, just to see what it looked like? Did you ever stand in the street and think to yourself, I could make that nun go blind just by giving her a kiss? Did you ever lay out plans for stitching babies and stray cats into a Perfect New Human? Did you ever stand naked surrounded by people who want your gleaming sperm, squirting frankincense, soma and testosterone from every pore? If so, then you're the bastard who stole my drugs Friday night. And I'll find you. Oh, yes.

Yeah, York's campus certainly is NOT the prettiest. The campus I would be on, Heslington is damn pretty though.

I'll do some more research into Liverpool this weekend and go from there.

Cheers for the Uni tips guys.

As you know, I somehow scored unconditional with Bournemouth which is damn good and their actually pretty good too for Law.

Never been to the area of Bournemouth, how is it? I will definitely use it as my insurance choice. It looks like a beautiful place.

As I said via PM. If you want to do law, the older the university the better. York and Liverpool would both be good choices. Go Russell Group.

Going to a newer uni won't kill you, but if you do decide to work for a bigger firm you'll have a disadvantage against Oxbridge and Russell Group graduates. The application process at those firms is still very traditional.

If you're not bothered by that and there's something about a newer uni that resonates with you, that's fine. But be realistic.

Source: I used to sit on the governing body of the Law Society and I know that of which I speak.

Also, it's they're. Not their. Tighten up your drafting, trainee!

(Sorry, I'm actually reviewing a contract right now.)

Patent Attorney is only lawyer-ish, the name's a little misleading (although I think we fall under "Other Lawyers" under the Legal Services Act). The best way into the profession these days is to get a good science degree and then apply for trainee positions (you'll see quite a few firms advertising positions for recent science graduates). If you don't get on one of those, you can always do a postgrad degree in IP Law - that's what I did.

Sploatee and Phisheep are way more proper lawyers than me, so I'll leave it to them.

Edit: I see Sploatee has already replied!

Wait, Sploatee is an actual lawyer?

You continue to surprise me (in a good way).

It's nothing particularly special. It's just an office job with extra pressure.

Everyone has such cool jpbs.

:(

Being a lawyer (at least the type of lawyer I am) is nothing particularly special. It's just an office job with extra pressure.

You don't have the capacity for twattishness Sploat.

Watch it, David. I have been known to use very forceful language on occasion.

I'm probably incredibly late with this, but I thought it was worth posting:
