Flowers and card delivered to her work were a huge success. Who knew??

I'm surprised, she said nobody else at her work has got anything!

Happy Valentine's, sexy bastards. More crucially, happy pay day!

I've been told by the missus to not be home before half 6 and I have to leave the office early today due to a desk move. Solution? Think I'll go and see the Lego Movie. :D

Never heard Blue Scholars before but holy shit this is so sooooothing.

I just posted this in FPF, but screw it, more tunes for the hip-hop heads (read Shorty now Kent had abandoned us):

D.I.T.C - Thick

Edan - Funky Voltron

Hieroglyphics - At The Helm

We still got runlikehell who is academically studying hip-hop too ;P He's definitely the expert for the new shit. I tend to be the judgemental "This shit ain't the 90s" kinda hip-hop guy.

Hieroglyphics <3 <3 that Del the Funky Homosapien with his flow and deep beat. Man, so fucking great.

DITC has a very Nas "It was Written" sound to it. Lol at Fat Joe and how far he fell since. Really should look into some Big L material in the future.

Edan track was alright.

All this love song stuff is making me feel left out. Love isn't really important to any of the artists I listen to.

Seriously dude, no one cares enough to turn random strangers into memes, this only happens to like 1 person in thousands. As a lover of beards I insist you share your spectacular facial hair with us.

Need to grow in the sides a little more, pluck out the grey and train the mustache to grow to the sides for a handlebar, but it's going ok so far.

Further to this, what do you listen to when you want something 'nice' then? I call it an ear hug, music with no sharp edges, just a warm tonal embrace with sweetly sung words. I like heavy bastard music as much as the next dude, but music is a rainbow of many colours. It'd do my head in if it was heavy 24/7.

8bit, I'm still waiting for a pic of you post beard shaving

I am hairy faced again, I only shave fully every month or so. However, I've got an interview next Thursday so will try to remember to snap a pic once I've tried to make myself look manageable.

Nice beard Dot Matrix!

I was busy this morning, so this is a backdated post.

Bjork - Joga
I remember hearing my mates autistic brother crying his eyes out in his room to this. I didn't know if he was genuinely upset or just caught up in the feels, but I felt really bad for him. He was singing the "push me up to this state of emergency" line through splutters. :(

Love that guy though; he's a pain in the arse at times, but he's a big softy really!
I thought you were cool, dancing white man. :p

I always forget about runlikehell, he's such a part-timer! And yeah, Edan is kind of an acquired taste. Cool album though, "Beauty and the Beat" if you're curious. Skip Torture Chamber, a load of samples of dudes screaming in pain in the background. It's a hard listen! :|

No Tegan and Sara (but I know people who do! And Ani DiFranco and all that).

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

I like Swamp Dogg? He's a misfit soul singer who sings about being out of place quite a lot. I like that kind of thing.

There's also a record by Beak (Geoff Barrow's band) which is all warm and fuzzy repetition . Gainsbourg maybe, or Sea Change by Beck. I put that on a lot.

Orchestral music, I suppose, most of all. I keep going back to Messaien's Quartet for the end of time and Schubert's 9th.

I'm the same with films I'm afraid, I don't really seem to watch many happy films. Emma has to argue with me for hours to get me to watch anything light hearted.

(context-- I grew up kind of weird, wasn't allowed to watch anything on TV other than the news if it was on. At 5 years old I wrote a letter to Neil Kinnock at my dad's encouragement. I think you can get an idea of how popular I was at school :) did wonders for my knowledge of the "bastard Tory cabinet" though. Although I met Douglas Hurd once at the Houses of Parliament and he was very charming. In the sense that he said hello, asked me how I was and was a tall kindly gentleman. Unlike Gove, who gave the impression of a rodent that has learned to walk on two legs )

Sploatee, can you do me a wee little favour? Please get out of my head. For serial. There's barely enough room in this cramped little one brain cell cranium as it is.

Thanks.

Fascinating! I just had a listen to the Quartet, that is some pretty mad stuff, found a performance where you can watch the players. I must give this a proper listen.

Will need to check out your other references too, never heard of any of them! Funny how everyone is cloistered away in their own worlds eh.

When we do the mixtapes I can't wait for yours!

Fell down a youtube hole, am now listening to The Rites of Spring for the first time. WOW this is heavy! And now I know where John Williams stole all his ideas from.

It's a bit spooky. Let's never meet each other.

The universe would likely implode.

Caused a riot on it's first performance. For serial. Probably my favourite bit of music ever. Stravinsky didn't even think he wrote it, it came through him. Such a complicated, powerful bit of tuneage. Glad you liked it.

Glad you liked Messiaen, too. Fun fact: You know the Ondes Martonet (sp?) that Mr Greenwood uses? That was Messiaen's doing.

Holyyyyy shit that was properly amazing. So intense! I get the impression I just watched a modern take of it but wow, blew my socks off. It's here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKtNC4LoTTM

Yeah I'd heard about the riot, and it's featured pretty heavily at the end of Lost Girls so I knew about it just had never taken the time to listen to and watch it for myself. I really need to experience more stuff like this, it's good for my brain.

And yes I'd heard about that Ondes Martonet but tbh I don't even know why iot is still haha. I get the impression that Messiaen was a bit out there! The performance I watched of the Quartet was very jarring and angular, but it was fascinating to watch the musicians kinda desperately clinging onto its weird and unwieldy form.

bitch I'm taking calls.
Ugly girls = girls with glasses or does she have a third arm or something?

There's a probably a category for that though.
Yea captions are hardly ever correct, typical porn hyperbole. I didn't take that picture but I recognize that girl just from the small part the ad shows. She's not ugly at all and the videos she is in are top shelf.

I have to get around to reading Lost Girls.

It's a kind of keyboard with a ribbon on the front that has a loop for a finger. You slide the loop up and down the keyboard to get a kind of theremin sound. No idea how it actually makes that ethereal noise, though!

Fun (possibly incorrect) fact: If I recall correctly (and I reiterate that I might not), because all the instruments have different length phrases in that opening movement of Quartet, they won't actually synch up for literally years.

EDIT: I tried to find something to confirm that but I couldn't. Just assume I'm making it up. :)

EDITEDIT: Ummm... Tits! Yeah! Beer! Football! etc.

There are really really beautiful bits though) about half way and at the end - I only have it on vinyl so it's end of side one and end of side two)

Really really really beautiful bits.

Sorry! I didn't know, I'm not up on these things! I just go to Piccadilly records and pick up random things, beak was me getting lucky :)

It's OK, it's not a dig. You know he's part of Portishead as well? The Drokk stuff was from a failed pitch for a soundtrack to a Judge Dredd movie, it's all big 70s Sci-Fi synths and is probably not that well known TBH.

Yup...I love 'Third'! Not that keen on the earlier stuff (apart from a few songs) .

I can't stop watching... Why can I not stop watching?

Happy Valentines Day you sexy, sexy bunch.
This is worse than the kid I knew who got lost in Mt Moon with a Charizard and a level 10 Pikachu.

They have no money because they keep whiting out from random battles, only have 3 pokemon and no pokeballs or healing item.s They've been stuck in Cerulean City for 6 hours, lmao.

I have forgotten how to gun in The Last of Us. Maybe starting the new campaign on Survivor was not a good choice for my sanity. I am resisting the temptation to throw my TV into France and will curl up on the sofa with Viz instead.
