Hmmm tricksy question since I'm such a neophile that I don't often listen to old records that much. Probably something like OK Computer or In Utero that I know super well. First Los Camps or Slow Club albums get a lot of play by me too. Bright Eyes Lifted or Wide Awake maybe.
But really I'm just usually churning through my latest obsessions. I listen to my big ipod on random all day as well so I get a good mix of nostalgia daily.

Also in the year I turn 30, I don't want to be seeing "30 aint the new 20 fuck you" TED talks thank you very much.

I think the key here is to mot pay attention to games media. Downgrades only hurt when you saw what it used to look like! I love games a lot but I don't have time for the news and preview cycle for most games. Just gimme it when it's done, if it's good I'll like it.

Something else, was going to talk about this in whatsapp but figure we should all do our part to keep this thread alive (by killing it with the following)
After watching lots of pro porn last night thanks to that awesome (now locked) fap thread, I gotta say most of it is just really bad. My main complaint is that it all looks the same. It's all filmed in massive houses with white walls, the girls all have similar clothes and make up (what is it with pro porn and garish, lurid clothing colours?). When it tries to go artsy it just means slo-mo + soft focus.
To me, most pro porn has that 90s RnB aesthetic, silk sheets and slow jams - or it's the opposite and filled with guttural choking noises and phlegm and the poor girl's face is beetroot red from the gagging, that's not very attractive. basically I find myself disappointed with the aesthetic choices pornographers make.
I did finally look into Mia Malkova as per Ninja and Smoky's rec and she is really quite pretty even though she's still filmed in the same style as every other porno.

On the cusp of doing so I think. I have a USP, just finding the time and engaging in the "PLEASE LIKE ME" shenanigans I feel too old and creepy to start with.
Recently I've been on a huge "artists intention" kick, to the point of futzing with RetroArch filters for hours to get the right scanlines, S-Video and NTSC blur that pixel artists once used to design around. Thats a rabbit hole I can't see the bottom of quite yet either but glad I dont have the bug to the same extent of the upscaler thread dropping hundreds on converter boxes like nothing.
DS2 is essentially the game I was looking forward to most this year so it hits harder than normal. I hate the whole secrecy MI6 act of the games industry anyway, so for it to rear its head here is bleh. Even if I hadn't seen the stuff with my own eyes, playing DS2 I would have undoubtedly realised a huge mechanic had been gutted and relegated from the game (the torch lighting dark areas) and I'm still crossing my fingers the PC version has the old lighting making that possible or Durante does more of gods work -- another case of the industry needing to employ the right people bigtime and not just "this mate of mine needs a job so howzabout it?".
Oh and porn is great. Glad I have a GF that understands its place. Agree a lot of the pro stuff seems like its out of some dimension where the 90's got 4k definition cameras though.

My gripe is games telling you how to do things. There's an amazing interview with Jon Blow on this point where's he's absolutely 100% right about the insecurity of devs who feel the need to walk you through every challenge in a game and how they rob the player of the feeling of discovery or the satisfaction of figuring something out (cough Skyward Sword cough).
It happened last night. Now, I'm loving Tomb Raider. I'm going to 100% it. I'm enjoying the lore, the art direction, pretty much all of it. But last night I got up to a section which hinged on one large scale puzzle being solved. Before I even had chance to try anything, the Lara Croft narration gave me a CLUE as to what I needed to do! Argh. It was just like AC4 all over again, where I just go through the motions without any challenge in order to move the story forward. This is BAD DESIGN.

DS2 will probly come to PS4+Bone, but nothing I know of yet. Waiting on the PC version in hope it fixes all this shit and isn't just hamstrung by 8 year old hardware.
The death of the puzzle and difficulty is why the DS2 torchgate situation is disappointing to me since its the one franchise that could get away with "yes its hard, fuck off?" but seems to have been focus tested all the way out, or is the innocent victim of switching an entire lighting system off last minute
The "too much tutorial" syndrome of games is there for a reason though since even "hobbyists" on Youtubes will show you just how far behind the GAF curve the average gamer is. What games need to start engaging in isn't so much "difficulty" modes but "HOW MANY GAMES DO YOU PLAY" or subtle questions to that effect and tailor the sudden tutorial stuff out of it depending on how likely you are to get lost in the games first four walled room.

Not what I've heard. Sure, they've downgraded the graphics but the gameplay is still there, by all accounts. A lot of people are saying it's even more punishing than DS.

I think the article is a bit cynical tbh - yeah these guys are dicks that I wouldn't want anything to do with, but I don't know if sneering at them is going to change the world at all.
IMO these guys are just average people following the media's lead. Right now all you see on idiot-telly is ripped orange idiots. Those people are role models for a generation, I don't think the followers can necessarily be blamed for being swept along by the zeitgeist any more than any other fashion fad. These people are highly visible, but not the only choice of how to live your life as a male in England.
I think that soon enough the pendulum will swing back the other way, and scruffiness will become fashionable once again. It just takes time for everyone to get sick of it and for a new generation of kids to come up reacting against it.
That said, it's really weird how fashion conscious kids are these days. BACK IN MY DAY we were scruffy oiks without a clue, even the girls weren't that glam. It feels like the bar is set incredibly high these days, it must be disheartening for fat/ugly/not-idiots in 2014. They're not really represented by any mainstream media at the moment. Of course, neither was my generation/subculture, but that was in an era with much more limited means to reflect this stuff. What is there for the weird kids today? I guess the internet?

Bought a PS4 (check Argos they had good supply every week) Sunday but woke up to email from amazon saying my Dark Souls 2 collectors edition is arriving tomorrow.

Honestly I've said this before but I think porn has a lot to do with the more fluid 21st century sexuality. Both in terms of making taboo acts more acceptable (who is scandalised by oral sex the same way out parents gen was?), but I'm also convinced that the increased amount of bi men are due to seeing just that many dicks on a regular basis. Blowjob scenes are pretty much just a nice face and a penis.
Plus gays are much more accepted now generally, so the stigma of coming out isn't so pronounced maybe?

Yeah man im a good boy, I did the homework! I think once the sneers died off it became more pitying, portraying the douches somewhat as victims of society which I don't know is helpful either. I dunno man, I think all this is is a new breed of idiot, but it's a logical extension of lad culture from the last 20 years or more. I think it's the novelty of their stupidity that stands out more than anything else.

When I were a lad someone used the Intelligent Dance Music moniker and it was generally regarded as a bad idea which led to EDM and is probably to blame for normcore too.
I'm not a fan of genres, I usually strip that tag from anything that I don't rip myself. As far as I'm concerned there's music I want/like to listen to and everything else gets deleted.
Anyway, I'm here! I'm fucking knackered after travelling through multiple countries and back twice over the last 3 weeks and am doing some therapeutic whatdotcd bounty hunting.
