Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
So you have total sales of 2 games or its just for the Npd where the Xbox sells the most? Come back to me with the worldwide figures.

  • Starfield has become Europe's fifth fastest-selling game of 2023, surpassing popular titles like Resident Evil 4 remake and Final Fantasy 16.

Really great result for Starfield!

But didn't get Xbox to #1 in a month. I wonder if that gets people inside Xbox more or less worried about Game Pass. As in "Hey we can still sell games!" or "It doesn't matter how many games we sell, the boxes aren't moving."

Based on the report the majority of the sales were on PC for starfield.

BG3 is missing since Larian is not sharing data with NPD. And SF ending not in top 5 on the biggest Xbox market is quite worrying.

We already know that SF doesn’t have a sales tail to support it’s ambitions. Biggest releases are only ahead of us and I’m sure after MW3, SM2 and new Mario Starfield will gradually slump out of top-10 chart.

But hey, at least some people are wild with lol emoji.

This is the biggest highlight in all of this.

The "single digits" is for the month my man, not the year.
I'm aware, I was illustrating that clearly Starfield had a greater effect on hardware than the poster thought. However I well aware that the Xbox hardware is still down double digits for the year.

Modest growth for Xbox hardware, not able to surpass PS5 sales even for a month, most of Starfield sales were on PC.
Seems like Microsoft has successfully killed their console sales with their business strategies.
The positive is that Starfield sales were overall good although we'll see the legs in the coming months.
Exactly. If Microsoft would just go 3rd party, imagine the profit they will get from Nintendo and Playstation. Starfield on Nintendo would sell like crazy.

So basically Xbox released what should be their biggest console exclusive ever, or at least for many years as well as a new series S SKU.

The result is that Xbox hardware increased less than 10% compared to last year when they released nothing.

So they failed on both fronts then? Subscriptions went down 2%.

Does it say that was for game pass?

You know there's other sub services, like PS+ which reportedly lost around ~ 2m subs every odd month before Sony stopped reporting them right?

Point out where he was wrong. FFXVI reviewed better than Starfield and I don't see any WW totals for the Xbox version of the game (he mentioned Game Pass, so he clearly wasn't talking about Steam's included sales). Yet, the two of you are dancing around here like little schoolgirls plied with Jesus juice.

What a bizarre post :messenger_tears_of_joy:

We're not supposed to count a Starfield sale because it's on Steam ?

Ah, so that’s where some of this weird giddy-like energy is coming from in this thread.

100% yes! Starfield has\had alot of pressure on it to kinda save the Xbox brand this generation. This was clear prior to it's release.

Need a source for the bolded. I think you mean a quarter and even then you'd still be incorrect.

You tell me. It was supposed to be some bigger seller for Xbox. Now we're going to celebrate the PC version's obvious impact and pretend we weren't sportin' pom poms for green goo? :pie_roffles:

Point is, the big story for Starfield is on Steam. Always was going to be and many of us called that. But, a few of you definitely pushed the narrative that this was going to be Xbox's shining moment, and now that it isn't, you've shifted course.

I was seeing how a Gamepass game is 1 in sales in September and 7 of the year only with the sales of a single month and how could someone come up with some argument to discredit that data and draw some negative conclusion about the future of Xbox... .. We didn't have to wait long to see them 😂😂

LOL, absolutely sales on PC were going to be higher than on XSeries since there is more user base on PC, more historical Bethesda fans also on PC, and also gamepass is more assimilated on console. The fact is that even though it is a game whose vast majority would play via gamepass, it has positioned itself as one of the best-selling games of the year in just one month and without being a game with a PS5 version. That it has surpassed a release of the caliber of FFXVI should perhaps be studied if FFXVI was supposed to have been a sales success 🤔.

PS. I see that now the narrative is that MS kills its console by selling its games day one on PC...... The fact is that it's been 5 years since that happened🤔

It's above FF16 and Resident Evil 7, games of which sold around 3 million worldwide.

So it wasn't surprising that it would surpass those numbers within the first month after looking at the concurrent sales numbers on Steam.

What we do know is the leading platform is PC and Starfield declined on the Steam charts after the first 3 weeks.

Week 37 - 1st
Week 38 - 3rd
Week 39 - 10th
Week 40 - 9th

Out of the top 10

Right now it's currently 27th.

So how well it performs next month is going to be key.

Sony report ps+ figures regularly. They even broke down the numbers on each tier since the relaunch this year so....

Starfield, biggest game of the year for xbox, you would think it would go up regardless of what ps+ is doing.

All we can do is come to conclusions since MS is not upfront about how well gamepass is actually growing.

From the revenue, it seems PS5 was slightly down from 494K last September and XBS was slightly up from 288K last september

September Estimation
PS5 - 480K
XBS - 300K

NSW - 200K
I hope for Microsoft's sake that this isn't true. Because if it is...............

I was referring to the sales figures. If it is stated here that FFXVI has been a great success but SF has sold more in less than a month...... You can illustrate what we should understand 😉

That said, FFXVI comes out on PS5, a highly anticipated exclusive from a very famous license, in a period with little competition and without being a game released on a day one subscription service... I don't know about the logic It doesn't fit much either.
Are you high?

Clear to who? Twitter/X trolls and doom-posters? One good game isn't responsible for saving a brand in any scenario.

This bizarre ‘do or die’ philosophy surrounding Starfield and/or Xbox is pure fabrication.
Really? With stuff like this lingering prior to launch, it's a wonder people expected more from it.

"Starfield isn't just another game - it's a mission-critical venture for Xbox and its subscription service, Game Pass".

They don't anymore.

Ok, but nowhere in the circana report says the 2% drop in spending is because of any one specific service. Whether GP or PS+.

The last info we had was an employee who put "over 30m" subs on linkedin which was then forced to be removed. It's a 5+ million increase over the last reported figure as of Jan '22.

Come on Adam, you know you want to.

I hope that's a poisoned apple after reading the justifications against why those sales can't be counted, i want out of this timeline :messenger_confused:

Yes some of them are PRO-Xbox twitter posters that have a big following. I don't know if I'd call them trolls.

Hmm yes it seems they have missed one quarter of reporting it. Curious how you have come to the hyperbole of "losing ~2m subscribers every odd month"

The subs went up and down, some quarters they went up, some quarters they lost as much as 2m. "Every odd month" was probably an exaggerated count, but if you look up their previous quarterly reports, you'll see that there too.

Shame that 2k doesn't include digital sales.

But most interesting part is Starfield regardless. I'm not surprised it was number 1, but I was not confident that it would be either because of the ability to sub and play. Will always be happy to see reasons for pubs to continue prioritizing sales of high quality games instead of prioritizing quantity.

Or, call people out for their obvious pivot bullshit.

You'll only get whiplash from folks who hula-hoop to the next best narrative. Everyone else had/has a clear picture of what was going to happen and what happened.

That may be, but that's one source. There were others.

PS5 is straight dominating.

That decrease in subscriptions is bad for xbox. It may be from the PS side though with people canceling PS Plus. Maybe Starfield did push xbox/PC Gamepass subs up and its just PS Plus that went down.

If MS can get to 50 million GP subs before Call of Duty 2024 launches next year on GP I would say that's a big win for what MS is trying to do. I know they changed Gold subs to Game Pass Core so they could be close to that number now.

So Bethesda's biggest release in decades only slightly boosted the Xbox on its release month ?
Seeing how the game is showing ZERO signs of longevity, the few months shall be very very interesting.

Still in all, who cares what they think?

Any Xbox nut who insists that Starfield would save Xbox, be a GOTG contender, or the meaning of life itself are just as ridiculous as the PS5 console warriors who are hell bent on tearing Starfield down and rooting for Xbox’s demise.

PS5 - 480K

2023 YTD Estimaton
PS5 - 3.93M
NSW- 2.77M
XBS - 1.97M

LTD Estimaton
NSW - 42.18M
PS5 - 15.73M
XBS - 11.67M

Things are obviously not good for Xbox console hardware, at this point they're just not in the same league of Sony anymore in this field but this is a consequence of their choices focusing on a wide ecosystem with PC and Gamepass.
The issue is that subscription sales have flatlined for a long time, they're generally -2% down in September and this for MS is worse than the lack of boost in console sales.

If you can correct me... but where does it say that that 2% corresponds to Gamepass only?

There are many subscription services and among others PS+ increasing its price by more than 33% on average. How do we know that it has had no consequence on these data?

Perhaps even the Gamepass subscriptions for Starfield and other important releases during September are what have caused this decline to be no greater.

But OK, let's think that when talking about subscriptions there is only Gamepass and that PSplus is not a subscription service or that a 33% increase in its price without any improvement in the value it offers has had no consequence.🙃
