In fairness, it was a tiny system seller. Just not the gargantuan NPD/September hit its gaga cheerleaders said/thought it would be.
They need to stop releasing games in November, that's when Call of Duty comes out.To put things into perspective. Starfield is BGS's first RPG that has topped the Circana/NPD chart, including games which launched on XB/PC/PS at the same time.
This is despite the game launching on game pass.
And to think there were people who called it an "unmitigated flop" a few days back.

Starfield is very popular among my steam friends list. I’m surprised it’s #1 considering GP on PC is a way cheaper way to play it but I also bought it on Steam. Happy for Todd and the boys. I loved it but I understand the criticism too.
Um.....appears to be selling pretty well despite gamepass and despite what GaF swore down was an unmitigated flop. 7th in top sales for NDA for a title that just released, wasn't on PlayStation and was day 1 on gamepass?Massive Numbers? Cool. What are they?
So true, If i was Microsoft I would have either tried to get Forza ready for when Red fall came out, Redfall in October, Starfield at Christmas with a console bundle. If Forza wasnt ready at the time then they should have kept hold of it and release in Jan or Feb when its quiet. In that scenario all those games could have launched with out any issues. Microsoft would have been taking heat for having no game but they could have maybe spent some money bringing big names to gamepass or getting 6 month exclusive on something. They need to stop releasing games in November, that's when Call of Duty comes out.
Seems it was smart to avoid CoD month. Would have to compare sales of Starfield to other Bethesda games to know if it’s a big deal.To put things into perspective. Starfield is BGS's first RPG that has topped the Circana/NPD chart, including games which launched on XB/PC/PS at the same time.

Posted in here a few timesMay I ask where that figure is from?
Hardware includes the special Starfield controller and headset btw."""Single-digit percentage growth in consumer spending on Xbox Series hardware""" Starfield has hardly moved any hardware when it was MS's main bet to change the direction of the brand.
Sounds like it did good enough to lead the NPD chart for September, but its future remains uncertain, particularly ww and particularly on Xbox. Not sure if massive is a word I'd use right now.Um.....appears to be selling pretty well despite gamepass and despite what GaF swore down was an unmitigated flop. 7th in top sales for NDA for a title that just released, wasn't on PlayStation and was day 1 on gamepass?
Psh! You tell me bro...

That said, I'm curious — who called it an "unmitigated flop"?
It's becoming more and more clear that Starfield was an unmitigated disaster and a complete flop.
PC boxed retail sales also surprised analysts, jumping 57 percent year-over-year. Details on what was driving these numbers were not detailed, but one would imagine that games such as Battlefield 3, Modern Warfare 3, and Skyrim had a lot to do with those surging numbers

This right here is the big win. They honestly have to be pretty happy with their best September in 7-9 years. Did XBox suddenly move to #1 position against Sony? Nope, and it's going to be a while before they do again (if ever). They royally screwed themselves with the XBox One generation, and people aren't going to all of a sudden stop gaming on the console where most of their friends are and just switch from one console to another. Microsoft is going to need to keep up momentum, with 3-4 big games a year to really make non-XBox gamers take a look at their ecosystem. Starfield was a pretty good start though.
Most hardware units sold since Sep 2016, most dollars in nearly a decade.
‘Flop’ indeed
Yeah, as of right now, I agree that he's wrong. My bad, fam, adam made a little booboo, it was actually - "unmitigated disaster and a complete flop".

It is completely flopped as a system seller for Xbox. It certainly is not a Zelda or Spiderman.
Did it increase the Steam user base maybe? Congratulations to Valve I guess?

600k incoming.I would wait until the results are out before calling Spiderman-2 a major system seller. I do expect it to help sell systems though.
The phrase was used plenty of times because the MC didn't get in the 90's. I think it's sitting on an 86 MC right now.Sounds like it did good enough to lead the NPD chart for September, but its future remains uncertain, particularly ww and particularly on Xbox. Game Pass subs increased
Month of Sep's highest units and dollar sold since 2016 and 2014 respectively.
It's like some posters are a living embodiment of the 'bitch eating crackers' meme.
really funny seeing you of all people post that gif when you’re a semi-professional spin artist on here
Does anyone think that starfield will be a top 5 game in october? Will it be in the top 10? It's not obvious that this will be the case.So Bethesda's biggest release in decades only slightly boosted the Xbox on its release month ?
Seeing how the game is showing ZERO signs of longevity, the few months shall be very very interesting.
adamsapple I'm starting to realise why you're making a habit of posting images instead of the tweets themselves when you want to spin up some PR:

Well yeah, but that's the point he was making: nothing will.Im not sure why you guys keep bringing up Xbox not outselling the PS5 this month. Phil Spencer already said that Starfield is not going to make Xbox overtake Playstaion in sales.
0 chance at top 5, it’s already fallen off a cliff. Spiderman 2, Alan Wake, Ass Creed, Mario, Lords of the Fallen(yes i went there).Does anyone think that starfield will be a top 5 game in october? Will it be in the top 10? It's not obvious that this will be the case.
I don't know how that changes much, based on dollar sales only Oblivion was #1. The rest are #2 or worse.
And Oblivion also launched on just PC and Xbox.
So that's the winning combo, I guess ?

Also there's this, which Starfield is yet to surpass:
Fallout 4 Ships 12 Million Copies in One Day, Breaks Records
That represents sales in excess of $750 million, Bethesda says; see all the record-breaking numbers here.www.gamespot.com
Why on Earth would anyone expect Microsoft to ship 12 million physical copies of any exclusive in the year 2023?
It's not just dollar sales to factor in, it's the fact that in previous years PC digital has been excluded, which has been the overwhelmingly dominant method of delivery for the platform since ~2010:
GameInformer - The Final Level

This year is more damning though. Below is the gap this year as of septembet 30th. Almost 2 to 1.If these are accurate, this is much closer than what you'd be led to believe by some posters.
Looks like all of them are doing pretty healthy all round. Xbox got a bump, game pass got a bump, Starfield sold well while also being on GP day 1.
You love to see the industry doing well.
Well yeah, but that's the point he was making: nothing will.
Man You PlayStation fanboys take starfield very personally.
Spider-Man will win October and November.. it’s okay
what is ps5 sm2?
Why are people saying this? I think Mario has a good chance of being October's #1 game. and then probably call of duty. is it like pre-emptive gaslighting.Man You PlayStation fanboys take starfield very personally.

Sales for the month:
PS5: 480k
XBS: 300k
NSW: 200k
~220k PS5
~180k PS5 SM2
~80k DE
~170k X, ~130k S
PS5 outselling Xbox on its biggest month of the year by basically 200k.
PS5...sold virtually half a MILLION in the USA alone in September without a single game release.
October will be...interesting.

It's always ironic to read who takes what "personally". Just a pointer, if you are saying this, you are feeling this.Man You PlayStation fanboys take starfield very personally.

Sony's last quarter of the year will be insane...
