Wow...never thought I would get motion sickness, but I did (I was eating during the movie, though....BAD idea :lol). So did a friend of mine.

Other than than, I thought it was pretty good.

I can't find it anywhere. It's called 'ROAR! (Cloverfield Overture)" by Michael Giacchino if that helps.

Thanks for the name. I can't find it either. I was pretty confident there'd be a sound track or something available when I left the theater. I had been holding my bladder since
Robert's mom called him
so I had to go :lol. I'm going to see it again tomorrow, and this time I will not drink!

And wow at all the motion sickness. I was eating popcorn and drinking water the whole time without any problems. Unless you call having to pee a problem.

The one thing I hated was the camera guy. He was kinda funny, but after a few minutes, I'm like, "Hey, the world around you is being destroyed. Get serious!"

Just came back from it. Loved the movie!

There were a few sequences that sort of had me baffled -- but I was enjoying the movie so much at the point that I found them forgivable. I missed the whole thing about the ending scene showing the start of all of it. I'll definitely watch it again when I get the chance to.

I thought this was a nice little addition for the lot. They had all the of the Transformers robots in the same spot a few months back:

I gotta say though, if I was a survivor of 9/11 I would probably not want to watch this movie. A lot of the shots are frighteningly similar to 9/11 footage (particularly the images of people running from a massive rolling cloud of dust and debris, along with that massive explosion they see from the rooftop).

Which is not to say I take the Fox News angle that the filmmakers are "exploiting" a real national tragedy. They are using it pretty artfully. Part of what makes it so real and so thrilling is that after 9/11 we know what it means for an entire building to collapse.....for the streets of Manhattan to be filled with frightened, confused people just looking to flee and survive an unreal, horrific event. If Cloverfield had taken place in any other city I doubt that it would have had anywhere near as much impact.

Also, it makes perfect sense to use the imagery from the ground-level 9/11 videos as a basis for Cloverfield if Abrams' objective is to make an American Godzilla. After all, Godzilla comes from the Japanese cultural horror and reaction to the atomic bomb attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and 9/11 is America's closest equivalent to that in modern times.

I'm pretty sure
it wasn't a nuke that was dropped at the end, or else the EMP would have damaged or possibly wiped the tape/SD card. It was almost certainly fuel/air bombs or bunker busters of some type.

I just came back from the city from seeing it, awesome flick and the sound effects were double that amount.

Ditto. I watched the 12:50am show. Went with two friends; I forgot one of them suffered from motion sickness ...

My question was more along the lines of how did they find a never ending camcorder battery.

You too ? :lol :lol :lol

Edit: I guess she wasn't the only one with the motion sickness issue

I can't believe I am the 3rd person to mention this here but
the monster, and even the spider thingies just came right out of Resistance, as if this is how the invasion started in the US. It is almost a carbon copy of a chimera
. This made the movie SO MUCH MORE EPIC for me..

I know ! I kept thinking
PLEASE LET THERE BE SOMETHING LIKE THIS IN RESISTANCE 2
.

you can barely see it. It's like a couple pixels big, and you see a splash that is maybe...1 or 2 inches on the video screen (and on the theater screen, maybe a foot wide versus a large large screen.) Just a dark spot falling like a meteor.

I caught it but my friends didn't, strangely enough. =/

That one scene
- seeing it fall into the ocean -
actually gave me goosebumps.

I fucking loved this movie. I felt so bad for all the characters when their tragedies happened. It really was sad movie when you think about it. The final lines of the movie were so ironic it made me love the movie ten times more. The flashbacks were done perfectly IMO.

This is true. But I mean from the trailers we've seen. There were two particular "roars" that came from the teaser. I don't remembe hearing either of them in the movie.

So really, the monster roar is not even in the whole movie? Whoa for me that is a huge letdown...

Can you please tell me if it makes other sounds?? The roaring made it very cool imo. The design of the sound was amazing.

Watched it today. Was pretty cool actually. What I don't like about it is that there's so much back story stuff that you have to keep up with the marketing to actually know. At least release a featurette with all of the back story or something :/

There was quite a few roars from the monster. I can't pick out what was in the trailer that wasn't in the film, if any, but really it's just a damn roar, LOL.

I thought it was great. The story was scratch-my-eyes-out predictable and embarrassing
I HAVE TO GO BACK AND SAVE THE WHORE WHO BROUGHT ANOTHER GUY TO MY GOING AWAY PARTY AND IS BURIED UNDER RUBBLE...We'll come with you while the city is being destroyed and the chances of us dying are guaranteed...OMG MY BRO DIED, MOM BRO IS DEAD...OK LET'S SAVE MY GF...I WAS JUST IMPALED BY AN IRON ROD BUT I CAN RUN JUST FINE!

Dumb but enjoyable in a "hehe this so so stupid" sense. The sound was AMAZING.

9/10

As someone who was within a couple miles of WTC, this movie brought a strange mix of emotions. I wasn't sure if I was reacting to the quality of the film making or getting a feeling of deja vu.

Ultimately, I thought it was spectacular. People complaining about the characters are kind of missing the point. Also, the criticisms about it being exploitative of 9/11 seem silly.

Saw it twice yesterday, Really enjoyed it both times and Hud made the movie even more enjoyable. Nobody was disappointed at the theater I saw it at. Watching the Movie made me think of Resistance.

Shit, I might have to wait, too many people getting motion sick. I normally never get motions sick, but man did the blair witch project make me ill (and movie AND the camera). I will completely kill my enjoyment if I feel like crap. However I don't think watching this at home will do justice to it. Arr, maybe I should just eat some ginger and smoke some pot, that should help. Spoilers haven't bothered me one bit, this flick is all about the experience

Sit near the back and take some dramamine. You'll be fine. Really the only bit that bothered me was the first 10 minutes or so.

I thought the movie was fantastic. Really fun and dare i say engaging movie. The place is i went too didn't sound too satified with the ending. I don't know what kind of ending they were expecting but it looked the most plausible.
oh yeah what happened to
marlena?, did she blow up? The scene was too fast.

yeah she blew up

what i don't understand is the way the monster walks around the city. these people have inifinite health points apparently, because they survive the helicopter crash.

and then they are being stupid standing there and talking, and then out of nowehere...monster! which made no sense. that was my only problem with the movie...that last shot.

it still being alive was awesome though.

Something about the Marlena scene strikes me - we know as much about what went on as the characters, I believe that's what the producers wanted us to feel like. We hear things as we pass other soldiers such as "Another bite" but we never really get explanations. This really is immersion at it's best.

Someone asked a few pages ago about the crazy person thats talking to Hud in some other language. While I don't have a translation, the credits did list: Crazy Russian Man on Street, or something like that. Russian for sure.

I instantly recognised her voice. I screamed out OMG ITS THE CHICK FROM MEAN GIRLS and everyone looked at me, since as you could probably guess, the demographic for Cloverfield was NOT the same demographic as those who saw Mean Girls =p

hey everyone, that falling piece of stuff, as confirmed by the director, is the very first sighting of the monster.

http://www.filmschoolrejects.com/news/exclusive-we-know-where-the-cloverfield-monster-came-from.php

After seeing Cloverfield today, audiences around the country are still asking what the hell is the deal with the monster? Where the hell did it come from.

Well, Film School Rejects Brian Gibson and Chris Ilcisko got the inside track on the monster’s origins from the director Matt Reeves himself. If you watch the movie closely, you can see a hint of where the monster comes from.

No, not in the attack footage. Not in the news footage. In the footage from April that was accidentally erased by Hud.

This original footage doesn’t just include the budding relationship between Rob and Beth. It also has the “first” appearance of the monster.

***WARNING: HUGE F*CKING SPOILER AHEAD***

Didn’t catch it? Well, go see the movie again, and watch carefully in the Coney Island footage at the very end. You might just see something suspicious drop into the water.

Watch the skies, my friends. Watch the skies.

I dunno... Reeves said that the monster's been around for quite a bit longer than that... like, thousands of years.

Just go here: http://cloverfield.despoiler.org/index.php?title=Main_Page

There's a lot of background story going on with this movie. And it seems to be still going on. Being another blog video that was posted. I think we're gonna see this continue on within the viral market. I mean hell, there's a freakin manga for it. Which doesn't make sense at all.

Box Office: Cloverfield grabs $18.25M Friday; headed for $54.75M 4-day Weekend!

Posted on Saturday, January 19th, 2008 at 4:13 am by: Steve Mason

Cloverfield

Paramount’s 2008 is off to a spectacular start. The J.J. Abrams-produced Cloverfield has delivered a monster opening day of an estimated $18.25M, and it will easily coast to both the All-Time January 3-Day record and the All-Time 4-Day MLK weekend record. The Friday number is a tough call because there’s no clear answer about where Paramount will add Thursday post-midnight sneak preview business. That means that there’s a slightly larger margin of error in my Early Friday Estimate than usual.

There will almost certainly be a dip in business Friday-to-Saturday, maybe as much as 15%. Even with that sort of “front-loading,” this $25M-budgeted internet-driven phenomenon will likely reach a staggering 3-day of $48M, easily becoming the best January opening ever. By Monday night, fueled by the MLK school holiday, Cloverfield should set a new record for the long weekend with an estimated $52M.

Paramount isn’t the only studio celebrating this weekend. Fox’s 27 Dresses, starring Katherine Heigl (Grey’s Anatomy, Knocked Up), has far exceeded industry expectations by “walking down the aisle” with $8.65M on opening day, which should translate to a $26M 3-day and a 4-day long weekend of approximately $30.7M. That will make this tepidly-reviewed romantic comedy the all-time 7th-biggest January opening and the all-time #4 MLK weekend 4-day opening.

ALL-TIME TOP 10 MARTIN LUTHER KING 4-DAY WEEKENDS
1. Cloverfield - $52M (estimate)
2. Black Hawk Down - $33.6M
3. Along Came Polly - $32.4M
4. 27 Dresses - $30.7M (estimate)
5. Coach Carter - $29.1M
6. Save the Last Dance - $27.5M
7. Stomp the Yard - $25.8M
8. Snow Dogs - $23.7M
9. Kangaroo Jack - $21.8M
10. Racing Stripes - $18.8M

ALL-TIME TOP 10 JANUARY 3-DAY WEEKENDS
1. Cloverfield - $48M (estimate)
2. Star Wars – Special Edition - $35.9M
3. Black Hawk Down - $28.6M
4. Big Momma’s House 2 - $27.73M
5. Along Came Polly - $27.72M
6. Underworld: Evolution - $26.85M
7. 27 Dresses - $26M (estimate)
8. Coach Carter - $24.18M
9. White Noise - $24.11M
10. Save the Last Dance - $23.4M

After the 2 new major releases, The Bucket List (Warner Bros) is 3rd, both for the day, with $4.08M, and, for the 4-day, with an expected $16.96M. Juno (Fox Searchlight) continues to excel during awards season. The quirky little comedy added another $3.03M on Friday. And it appears to be headed for an $11.66M 4-day, putting the Oscar-worthy film’s cume at over $86M by Tuesday morning. Sony holdover First Sunday rounds out the Friday top 5 with $2.33M. The Ice Cube/Tracey Morgan comedy should reach $9.35M for the 4-day holiday weekend.

The new company Overture has disappointed with its first release Mad Money. With a cast that includes Oscar winner Diane Keaton, Oscar nominee Queen Latifah and the increasingly-creepy Katie Holmes, the caper/heist comedy managed only $2.25M on Friday, and it’ll stumble to a an estimated $8.2M 4-day, only #7 for the period.

There are a number of specialty films that have opened on Friday, including Woody Allen’s latest and a new comedy produced by and starring Pamela Anderson.

Allen’s Cassandra’s Dream (Weinstein/MGM), starring Colin Farrell and Ewan McGregor, is a disappointment with a mere $1,035 Per Theatre Average on 107 screens on Friday. It’ll limp to just $422,000 for the 4-day or about $3,944 per location.

Meanwhile, Pamela Anderson’s Blonde and Blonder (Hanover House) debuted on 16 screens and has been met with complete indifference. In the movie, Anderson plays a dumb blonde named “Dee Twiddle” and she is joined by the equally talent-challenged Denise Richards as a dumb sidekick named “Dawn St. Dom.” At some point, this mess was set to be directed by Bob Clark (Porky’s,A Christmas Story), but he’s probably now relieved to not see this movie on his IMDb page. Blonde and Blonder sold an average of just $600 in tickets at each of its locations on Friday. That’s less than $10,000 on opening day. The movie, allegedly a comedy, will finish the 4-day with just over $29,000 total or about $1,800 in tickets at each location.

Because it makes money it needs a sequel? wtf? This is not a film built for a sequel at all. The whole appeal is it answers no questions.

And the film isn't about a monster. It's about Rob and the quest for his girl. It just so happens to take place during a monster attack. There is no way to continue that story. Which is *the* story of cloverfield.

Because it makes money, it has a higher chance of getting a sequel...

And I understood that. There's still plenty of room to tell other stories as well, not from just civilians, but news reporters, military, all that stuff. I honestly just want more of this stuff, I can't get enough.

not every movie gets a sequel if it makes tons of money, especially a movie like this. I really see 0 chance of this getting a sequel regardless if it makes a ton. Everything about cloverfield is anti-franchise.

You wanting answers from scientists/military ruins the point of the movie. They made this movie to avoid that stuff, the monster movie cliches.
