IDK it's starting to feel like maybe the demographic least likely to play video games isn't the one you should be centering your characters around. Just a thought

World’s Biggest Weeb
They funded 12+ GaaS games knowing very well many (most) would fail and hope a few succeed

They don’t know which ones will succeed or fail, it’s random to a certain extent. No one thought HD2 would blow up

They expected that not every GaaS would be a hit. They did not expect a game + studio acquisition to result in a NEGATIVE ONE HUNDRED PERCENT ROI. Come on.

Short memories

Arkane was also a very large team that worked on Redfall for a very long time.

Concord was not a large team until recently, it’s a start up studio. They started small for a long time until they got funding seeds going and finally a publisher

So the difference is one studio slowly grew while the other was already large and in the payroll for many years

And it killed Arkane, a studio cherished for their immersive sim single player games

Redfall was the E3 mic drop closer announcement for crying out loud

What’s the greater loss here?
Firewalk Studios had close to 150 employees when Sony they acquired them.

Arkane Austin had <100 employees working on Redfall.

Keep coping.

Firewalk had 150 at its peak late in development

Arkane had those employees roughly the same throughout development

Keep coping

Sure they did. They have had plenty of negative GaaS takes funded in the past

That’s part of the strategy, they don’t care if 10 massively fail if they get an evergreen winner or two

It’s no different from VC fund strategy

How do you even know this is true? I played the game. I thought it was mid at best and I could careless about the main cast and their designs. Gundam released a hero shooter a while back and it was mid also and I love Gundam but the game still failed. I doubt the majority of gamers even know this game exist.
This is some fascinating cope. It wasn't some small release. It was a major new Sony IP that was heralded as one of their new money makers going forwards in their own financial report. Also, the idea that character design isn't important in a hero shooter is absolutely laughable. It's the bedrock of the genre. People want to play as a character that they like. Several petabytes of Overwatch porn says you're the odd one out if you don't care about the character designs in such a game. Lastly, the entire internet has been dunking on it since the beta, so the idea that nobody knew about it is complete nonsense too. Even mainstream news sites like the BBC wrote an article on its closure.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Nope, to be massively profitable
By your own admission, Helldivers 2 has "covered" the losses for this game. And by your statement above, it should also be able to sustain the losses of NINE other GaaS games.

Where is the massive profit coming from?

I bought this and thought it played great and I'm sad to see it die. I'm happy to get my money back though as it has been getting harder and harder to find games.

It should never have launched without a single player campaign.

Helldivers 2 is a good success but Sony wants to have a top 5 GaaS title year in and year out

So I’m talking about at the level of Overwatch or something in terms of recurring income

They may not get there, but that’s their goal

Era melting down due to the few that managed to speak up lol

Official Staff Communication
There is a discussion to be had about why Concord failed in the way it has, HOWEVER, that does not mean users are allowed to parrot right-wing talking points from the shittier parts of the internet.
We have already permanently banned someone for this and will ban others for engaging in the same rhetoric. There is a difference between good faith discussion and just parroting chud talking points.
All this said, if you have an issue with a post or believe it to be violating the rule above or any other of the site's rules please do not hesitate to report it with context to help us out.

It's like I've said here numerous times, unless there is some secret giga large african american woman contingent buying and playing games are all unaware of, then who the fuck keeps casting them as leads for games? Literally have more fucking games with these trope now as we did buzz white dude haircut from the 360 era.

Please give me games starring black dudes, latino dudes, native american dudes, asian dudes, etc before you go pick on the .1% of the gaming market and shove it down my throat.

This is the worst gen ever for gaming. Anyone thinking otherwise is high on copium.

No it’s not.

VC funding is ruthless. Agreed amounts are given to the funded party but only in return for the party meeting and satisfying objective criteria along the way. Failing to meet those criteria sees the project pulled with severe repercussions for all involved.

If VCs had been involved in this, Concord would never have gotten further than a few pencil drawings.

This is an unmitigated dumpster fire, pouring god money after bad. Sony knew it was going to perform poorly although this shitshow has likely surprised even their most pessimistic.

To handwave this away as ‘oh well, better luck next time’ is absurd.

VC funds started probably monsters before Sony acquired them…

VC funds typically have a very poor win to loss ratio, sometimes 5 winners out of 100, and still manage to generate great returns due to large positive skew

hopefully companies learn to keep modern day activist politics and the message away and just go back to making fun games.

It literally blows my mind that they will outright refuse to acknowledge that it absolutely is a factor in this disaster.

Was it the primary reason? No, but it's the same old song and dance.

We're always at fault for not wanting it shoved in our faces. We're always the bad ones and always, always vilified. They can do no wrong and if they do, just throw down ban hammers or go Private on social media.

I didn’t think they would pull the plug like that.. actual props for just taking it on the chin as a company loss wise.

People saying this is comparative to Redfall please sit back down.
