Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin |OT| Your weapons are weak, old man

So I Finished Bloodborne, did not know what to play until The Witcher 3 come out next month so I decided to double dip and get Dark souls 2 on PS4 .
I really liked Dark Souls 2 ( I rarely play a game twice) So I rolled another knight as a starting class I have not used a shield so far (must be Bloodborne habit).

Still not sure if I'm gonna go dual wield/dexterity build for now I'm using a mace +2 and the fire long sword +3 .

I was wondering how you access the DLC is it hidden ? And more importantly, can you miss it ?

You need to clear specific bosses to get access to the entrances for the DLC. There are also items scattered around the world that will allow you to enter the area. I cannot remember where I picked up the items to access the areas off the top of my head.

Even after the nerf, lightning still wrecks the game (minus dlc). Since I had high faith and atunement from pyro already, I started loading up on Great Lightning Spears. Had 24 uses and a good chunk gets refreshed every two minutes from the dlc crown. Lightning Dragon Charm +5, Lightning Clutch Ring, and Iron King Crown made NG+ a breeze. It one-shots most normal enemies. I also used a pyro flame +10 in my offhand for toxic misting turtlers.

Good to know. I'm working on a paladin style character. Craftsman's hammer is actually pretty solid, just need to progress far enough to stock up on some lightning bolts and up my faith a bit.

After you cleared the boss in the undead purgatory did you go check out the kings room past the boss? There's a ring in there, and 3 doors in the world that will only open if you are wearing it.

I did, but did not find anything. I'll go take another look.

Edit: looks like I had missed one boss in a different area.

I forgot to ask, how good is dual wield if I don't really do PVP ?

It's pretty good, but the stat requirements are kind of high, so you may end up replacing your weapons with a single, stronger one.

You cannot go wrong, however, so don't be afraid to try it.

I'm still lost as to what agility is. A "derived stat"? That wiki link with an explanation didn't help, at all.

Agility depends on a formula from attunement and adaptation.

When you level up, you can choose to rise attunement and adaptation, but you cannot rise agility directly. It only goes up as a result of putting points in those other stats.

Thus "derived" stat.

You probably want to take Agility to around 100 at least, to get similar invincibility frames during the roll as in Dark 1.

Alright, I will try going dual wield , I always played Souls games sword N shield .
This will make a nice change .

It's viable. I've been dual wielding from the start. Two blacksteel katanas now. Pure melee.
So far so good.
I still have a drangleic shield just in case.
But i never remember to use it.

I had some trouble clearing one of the early areas to the point of frustration. Almost gave up on my shieldless run. But i endured.

Iron Keep...okay I read all the complaints about the new version going back the last 150 pages.

The complaints are 100% founded. This area was cakewalk in vanilla DS2...not any more

bum rushing ninja knights galore that come in packs of 3s and that's if you can make it past the two NPC invaders who will straight up murder you...

Just finished my first re-playthrough (played through on 360) of the original content on XB1. Holy hell, did Shrine of Armana get tougher? I never had that level of frustration with it before. Easily the worst place for me this entire runthrough.

Could be because I was a AGI + Bow build last gen, and went completely INT / ADP / STR caster this time.

Stacked +soul items the entire game, so I'm SL 152 or so now. Will the DLC be too easy? I'm hearing not... which is a good thing.

The Iron Keep isn't that much harder. The main issue is that knights aggro from further away, but you can still fight them one on one for the most part unless you go too far. Figure out their aggro range and then let them sprint to you one by one.

Once the NPCs are down, I think it might even be easier than it used to be. The hardest part is the portion after the bridge with the two bowmen. If you have a bow or are a mage then that part can also be taken care of without much of an issue as well with a little patience.

If by tougher you mean much easier from vanilla, sure. It's a little harder then post patch Amana though.

The DLC shouldn't be easy for you, especially if you depend a lot on casting.

I disagree completely. They all come to you! Just stand and wait for them and then hit them dead.

Armorer Dennis is a jerk. Think I died 3-4 times just to him alone.

Also there are 3 possible invaders, at least from my experience:
I got invaded by a Dark Spirit Forlorn right before the large open area with all the aggro knights

Okey these Frigid Outskirts and those frozen horses are driving me insane... You can't see shit and they charge at you two at the same time even sometimes. This is the worst co-op zone from all 3 dlc for sure give me iron passage and cave of the dead any day instead of this torture.

Really tempted to get this when I'm finished with bloodborne but I'm worried about not being able to find other players to help me out. I know there are a few bosses that I couldn't have beaten with out the help of other sun bros.
It's a legitimate concern. I don't know if I'm under leveled or what, but I simply cannot summon any phantoms in the DLC.

They're even highlighted on the bonfire select as one of the areas where I have the best chance of encountering other players..

Iron Keep can be breezed through with a mace. Stunlocks the knights, and even with middling + bonus, 3 hits kills them. Just pull one at a time, block / dodge their first attack, then wreck them.

Great farming once you have their aggro ranges down to only pull one at a time.

The only area i think it's harder than in vanilla DS2 is heide's tower of flame.
Everywhere else seemed easier or the same as before.

it means it's not a stat you directly put points into, it rises when you increase something else. in this case it's adaptability or attunement.

It's like when you put points into faith and it also raises certain types of resistance. Putting points into adaptability or attunement raises your agility, and raising your agility increases the amount of time that you're invulnerable while rolling.

Is anyone else noticing a lack of player summon symbols? I'm lucky if I can ever find one that isn't an NPC summon..

Something I didn't realize until I browsed around the Dark Souls II reddit is that some folks can end up getting softbanned, which may or may not impact whether or not you can be summoned/summon others.

I noticed while going back there a lot that the enemy numbers starting slowing lowering. Now it's a ghost town in there until I get to the upper area on the way to the second boss. Never saw that before...

How does this happen?

I stumbled upon this thread a while ago. Apparently some people were soft banned for editing Soul Memory or using Ds2Fix64.

Sorry, I should note I'm on the PS4 version. I guess there are just not that many people playing it..?

The Gutter and Black Gulch continue to be absolutely terrible. They are like a worse Blighttown.

Gutter really freaked me out when I found it. Seeing those lights far off in the distance, the moving walls, and the heart beat. I was terrified and didn't want to do that area at first hah. Then it was nothing....at least with a torch equipped.

I think once you level up and pass certain soul memory thresholds it becomes harder to find people in your level range to summon. When I had just started the game and was going through Heide's Tower I could summon and be summoned almost instantaneously. Yesterday at level 112 in Iron Keep I was lucky to find a single summon sign at the Smelter and King fights.

Is this why people dislike Soul Memory so much? I can see this becoming annoying if you enter a Soul Memory band that just doesn't have very many people for you to play with.

Ah gotcha. Then the lack of summon signs is probably due to your soul memory tier if you're playing during peak time.

I'm tempted to farm Soul Spears in the Copse with Ascetics but...I'll fuck myself over aren't I? Which bosses will be affected if any?

Finished the main game,i´ll do the DLCs some other time because i´m kinda tired of the game right now.
It´s dissapointing that
Aldia doesn't drop souls, or even a boss soul.

Ya its just more annoying to me than anything. Not difficult, just annoying. Black Gulch on the other hand can fuck off with the poison and all of the invasions.

The Gutter is SO much better, IMO. The reduced number of dogs and less poison statues is a bless.

Black Gulch still fucking sucks.

The Gutter is honestly my favorite area pre-DLC haha.
Black Gulch is terrible though. At least you can sprint through it in like 30 seconds.

I hate not being able to see shit in the Gutter but it is way better than Black Gulch.

edit: There are also some good items that make suffering through the Gutter worth it.

I've heard a bit about this but I'm 100% not clear on how it works. Anyone have a handy link that can 'splain it for me? ;)

The Black Gultch had me pissed as the fuck too, until I realized that I could go through and poke all the statues, go back to the bonfire to rest and get back my estus juice, and none of the statues respawned. Then just run to the boss (and its wonky fucking hit boxes.)

I don't hate Black Gulch. I'm weird. I like the aesthetic with the glowing fungi and the twisted enemies.

Yeah it's a great looking area, wish they had done more with it. So many enemies relegated to a long death corridor :lol

Oh I didn't know those things didn't respawn. I thought they did. That would make it a lot better. They funny thing about that boss is that I had no problem beating it, but the first time I got it down to like 3% hp, fucked around and tried to heal and got smoked. I just started laughing at my stupidity.

Trophy question about a spell
great Chaos Fireball
You can purchase this in NG++ upon entering Drangleic Castle from Chancellor Wellager. Or you can reach rank 3 in the Brotherhood of Blood which requires 500+ PvP wins.

So i cant buy anything from this dude,i used a bonefire ascetic to make it ng+++ ( already was on ng+) but still nothing showed up

what do i do now
