Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin |OT| Your weapons are weak, old man

Yes there are.

I played through the game a bunch of times on 360, but I'm playing through now on XB1. Definitely wasn't expecting statues everywhere. Are there more branches to be found?

Just FYI there are not enough branches to unstone every statue. You have to take your picks.

I left about 5 statues unstoned in NG0 (Aldia's Keep x2 on top of the stairs, Shaded Ruins x3) and I missed the 2nd Boss Soul Blacksmith - Ornifex :( I had I think 13 Branches of Yore.

I'm playing the game for the first time and man...this is great! I really don't understand the complains about DS2.

Maybe the vanilla version of the game was too different. Playing on the PS4 by the way.

Gotta say, as much as I loved Bloodborne the Souls games have a certain "charm" to their setting that just isn't the same as Yharnam. Thank God we have both because frankly I can't choose which one I love most.

The game is considerably more difficult than Bloodborne too. And I say this as someone who platinum Demons.

How easy is to farm titanite guys? There's a bunch of weapons and armor I want to upgrade but I'm afraid of wasting resources.

It's fairly plentiful until you get to needing chunks, and there are even places where you can farm those. I'm not much of a farmer and, by the end of the game, even I had two fully upgraded weapons to switch between.

What about Pharos stones? Are there enough stones for all contraptions?

Invaded the Bastille over the weekend with my pyro build and fire-infused Black Knight Halberd - which I've never used.

Had one guy do the Decapitate gesture, stated whipping his ass, he runs off to heal three or four times, and I still get the win. Good times.

This summarizes my invasions in places other than the IK Threshold Bridge or arenas.

Ah, fuck the bridge, unless you feel like constantly fighting warped sword, katana, red iron twinblade jester-Havel-smelters.

Well, to be fair if you're just invading with a cracked red/blue eye orb, then th other person didn't ask for it. They're probably just trying to make progress.

Now healing in the PVP areas after summoning an invader yourself; that's a dick move.

They don't bother me. My parry shield loves their tears. I weak against spears. For whatever reason, I can't get the parry timing down.

I don't mind it at all. I'm just thinking, isn't it more damaging to your self esteem to chug estus and still get beat? I would rather just go down straight up with no healing.

If I was carrying a bunch of souls or just in general tired of trying to slog my way through an area, I'd definitely try chugging estus if it means I might live lol

I black crystal out of a world if the host is in the middle of nowhere or genuinely doesn't want to duel, that is, if they don't chase me after trading some blows. I'm a very nice invader. That's probably why I prefer duel spots because many people don't want to duel out in the wild. They should probably turn off online if that's the case. Turn it back for boss co-op.

Just tried PVP for a hour on the Iron bridge for the first time.

Seemed like a laggy mess with horrible hitbox detection. I am getting hit by swords that are no where near me, and spells that should be completely missing me.

The community is generally pretty good. Except when I summon people and they almost die so they run through the level to get protection from enemies. Not sure why'd you enter and bow, and then do that technique. But whatever.

Is this just something that people "get use to", or did I just experience a bad night for lag?

It can be laggy. It's very dependent on the person with the slowest connection. If your opponent's connection sucks, you'll see teleporting and phantom hits while your hits don't go through. That's how the game compensates for connection differences. That's not typical though. Make sure cross region play is off.

Take down the names of the cowards that run. Don't summon them again.

this. i have zero interest in PvP in these games. getting invaded typically occurs when i'm trying to make progress and i'm between bonfires or shortcuts. pvp healing etiquette is out the window when souls and progress through a new area are on the line

I'm the same as you and I can't find the option to turn the online off, when the game starts up it says Go Online which is greyed out but I still get invaded?

NPC invaders are pretty common.

I've heard about some infamous Rat boss and covenant, but I haven't come across it yet. I thought the poison area would have it, but now I've moved past there into the forge. Did I completely skip a section, or is it way further on?

Also the first boss in the forge trolled me hard. I didn't get hit until he pounded me with his flame sword, I needed to hit him once, but I didn't realise he had an AoE DoT. In my last swing animation his dot ticked and killed me. Damnit! Would have been a OHKO. I had run out of estus because I got ganged up on by the samurai outside his room. Those jerks are irritating!

Sounds like fun!

I've had the NPC invaders which I knew about but i've also had a few players invade too, weird really, i'm so terrible anyway it would be a pointless fight!

On PS4 you can force it offline simply by exiting to the dash (leaving the game running) and dropping the console into rest mode momentarily. After you restart and tab back into the game it will automatically fall back into offline mode and stay in that mode until you exit back to the front-end of the game.

Ugh, the DS3 gamescom thread pisses me off. How could one be a Souls fan and not like this game? Sure it's different from DS1. It does almost everything better except the lore and the world. The multiplayer is worth the price of admission alone. I sometimes doubt if many of these gaffers are not Souls fans and simply just post whores.

The funny thing is, I'd be less wary of the "b team" making this game, given the stories behind the scene of the team being pressed for time and the work they did on the excellent DLC. People get too wrapped up over Miyazaki, to the point of creepiness and irrationality.

This game is far from perfect but to insinuate that DaS is would be an indictment of fanboy delusion; that game and Bloodborne have their share of problems. It's just that DS2 ended up being just a game, not a spiritual experience that bloomed into nostalgia, so therefore it's shit. I've said it before, it's no coincidence that those who played DS2 as their first Souls game say they don't understand the hate it gets and talk about it in the same fashion as I did the first time I played the original.

I'm sure DS3 will be a great game, and I'll devour it like I have with the others, but it won't be solely because of Miyazaki. Moreover, I doubt that he's as hands-on with it as everyone likes to think he is.

What's the player count like on the Xbone version these days? If it's high enough I'll just buy it instead of buying the DLC for the 360 version.

its just the world we live in today. As long as you like it there is no problem.

And I have nothing against DS1. It's a great game. I just prefer 2.

But sometimes seeing people trash 2 is making me rage a bit.

Hi, I'm nortonff. I spend my life going into threads to say that I don't care about the topic of the thread. It's a really good use of my time.
Can you guys help me with some noob questions ?
It's my first time playing the game. I just died in the Ruin Centinels.
I feel that my character is really slow. I'm not sure if I'm more used to BB, but can it be related to my gear ? Does the equipment in my inventory related to my speed ?
What can I do to roll and attack faster ?

Yes. you roll faster with lighter gear.

Around 25% you fast roll. 50% you fatroll, not good. and 100% you can't move at all.

Try differerent gears.

Alright, thanks. I find inventory and equip stats very confusing in this game, so I'm not even sure what to look out for in terms of speed.

For the Sentinels I suggest you use a 100% block shield and a mace to do strike damage, and then just take your time.

I never rolled when I fought those guys, I think.

Actually I died only one time for them and quit the game to go to sleep.
But I was getting very frustrated with my speed before that.
Speed is influenced only by equipment or also by some stat ?

Adaptability increases the frames of invincibility while rolling, and Agility decreases the time it takes to perform certain actions, such as drinking an Estus Flask or Rolling

But rolling distance is gear dependent.

You can read about stats here; http://darksouls2.wikidot.com/stats

Nice, thanks a lot.
What I'm supposed to do with weak equipment I don't use anymore ? Just discard ?

50% through NG+. Way too easy. Lucatiel bosses done, Bernhard only one done.

And I can't get past the Bastile on my first playthrough.
WTF is wrong with me. You guys play Souls game mostly solo or co-op the whole thing ?

I do everything myself, then go back and help anyone who summons me. No shame in getting help if you need it, I just prefer to take on the challenges myself.

NG+ is easier than NG. In NG you'll be struggling to get your character to basic competency. Even though enemies are harder on NG+, you will have access to a huge range of equipment, you'll have upgraded roll, you'll have enough stamina to do the things you want, you'll have enough spell attunement slots, etc.

I struggled in there for a bit, patience and soul farming helped me, I also went back to the forest of the fallen giants for a bit to test some new weapons out after reading some things on here and found 2 that were better suited to my style, I also tend to solo and I use the npc summons occasionally.

So I bought the game yesterday and I don't know if I went somewhere I shouldn't have for my level. Right now I'm at majula, the furthest I can go through the right is the castle were the guy with a giant crow appears and to the left the furthest I can go is up to the fourth giant guy with the longsword. I'm lost, confused, and I keep getting fucked faster than a pornstar in a gangbang.

You can go to the right if you want. But theres a...middle path? To the Forest. Its the real starting area.

Game is starting to click. I found a estus flask shard but the lady near the bonfire in majula didn't give me the option to upgrade, she just kept saying the same thing until I found the shard in the well, then the menu appeared for me to be able to level up and upgrade estus :p

Also, I kinda noticed that some enemies like some spear guys disappeared near the cardinal tower, don't know if that's normal since I'm trying to go into a blind playtrough. Trying to play with the least knowledge as possible.

If you kill the same enemy (typically) twelve times, it disappears from future run-throughs of the area.

Yup. I have 5 bosses left till end game and so far I died only twice, to two bosses: The Rotten's AoE attack where I forgot to roll and Skeleton's Army. WTF The skellies gangbanged me and I couldn't do shit! Hardest boss in NG+ so far :)

If I were to purchase this game, do people still do coop PVE frequently? Or is it mostly PVP?

I really just want to play PVE with people, since I've exhausted everything on Vanilla DSII.

I was wandering around the shaded woods and opened the door where Ornifex is without realising while fighting some Basilisks and accidentally killed her. Am I locked out of trading with her for this play through?
