Thats the thing about this game, they do give you a bunch of tools to use. Its just that you have to learn to play this game as more than just a shooter.

It was tough for me to remember to use telekinesis. Now...I use it ALOT and I'm planning on tricking it out to max with power nodes.

It definitely feels sharp and with good IQ. What about the 360 version? And you got a link to that B3D thread?

Just picked this up on 360 (by returning Brothers in Arms).

Played 15 minutes of the intro sequence.

I dig it, I guess.

Why did my character, Issac (Asimov) put on his stupid looking helmet on the bridge of the ship?

That really pulled me out of the situation, TBH.

You should return Dead Space and get something that doesn't confuse you.

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
I just checked what you had to do to get 100% trophies...

I can officially say that this is the first game I'll enjoy getting my platinum in :p

Anyone who comes in here and tries to downplay the atmosphere is being picky. The feel and presentation are amazing. Atmosphere that never lets up. GOTY contender here.

After reading how unchallenging medium was I decided to jump right into hard. I just finished level 2 and I've probably died 20 times or so. A lot of those were on level 1 though before I realized the glowing green boxes had ammo/health, along with the emergency supplies on the walls. Between figuring that out and having access to the store I don't think it'll be so rough going, but playing on hard really ups the ante of the more survival horror aspects of the game. I'm really digging it so far.

He's an engineer, that's essentially a space welding helmet/hard hat.

Because they just crashed into the Ishigura and nobody else on the bridge had their special janitor suit on? I dunno, it just seemed so abrupt. Without prompting, and with nobody doing anything special other than leave the bridge to check out the derelict ship, my guy decides to put on this super heavy looking medieval helmet.

I bought into the milleau right up until that point. I'll play the game of course, but I'm just nitpicking since this game is getting all this word of mouth OMG-RIDLEY-SCOTT-ALIENS-CAN'T-PLAY-FOR-MORE-THAN-2-HOURS-HYPE.

I loved the intro with the scrambled video that's a cry for help and you have no idea what's happening.

Then the helmet. Whee!

That's for the next time thru. Right now I just wanted to play the game on a medium setting so I can really soak it all in before I go in for more of a challenge.

Really it could just be you. Did you just want him to walk around with the helmet in his hands until you thought it was a good time to put it on?

Edit: And really if that your nitpick maybe you just werent trying hard enough. Why are all the military personal with their large assault rifles only wearing a regular jump suit and dont seem to be packing any gear. Why does other technician on the ship only have some silly hand computer while Isaac is decked out in full a hazard survival suit or some such.

Well if you bothered to look at the animated comics or whatever they are called that were released early they pretty much explain the basics of the premise rather clearly.

He's the only guy on board who has that engineering manual repair job, your helmet and protective suit changes visually as you upgrade it btw.

Whats her face tells him to put it on. That's why he's wearing it... he was following an order.

Pay attention.

EDIT: LOL nevermind... she didn't tell him to.

Though what exactly was wrong with him putting it on? Maybe he's more cautious than the others?

Maybe it's mandated in the Federation of Intergalactic Welders Collective Agreement that the moment you are about to step onto a job site, you have to be wearing your protective head gear? (possible)

Maybe Isaac needs to wear it because the helmet offers necessary information in order for his suit to properly utilize the tools he uses? (possible)

Maybe Isaac needs to wear it because doing so allows him to access all of the visual, audio and text based "RIG-Casts" that he receives? (possible)

Maybe chespace is just a douche? (Ding!)

This game looks great. One thing I've noticed though is that the game lacks selfshadowing. Not a big deal though because things dark.

I would complain about all the shit you put into your additional edit but I haven't gotten there yet. I stomped on the head of my first alien and turned it off.

Playing this game at work in my office isn't exactly atmosphere inducing so I wanted to savor it for later.

Look, I get the fact that my character has a big clumsy helmet on because basically he's everyman. He's you and me and him and her. But in the first few minutes of the game, you're thrown all these faces (the chick on the bridge, the black sargeant stereotype, and the mysterious woman who apologizes) yet your character puts on a helmet the first chance he gets, in fact, while he's on the bridge. Maybe wait for the airlock buddy. Yeah, carry it in your arms, whatever, don't carry it, pick it off the ground, fuck, I don't care.

Anyway, the game seems decent so far. I liked Doom III. I'm sure I'll get some jumps from this one.

Pft, why didn't you say so in the first place. I am sure you will love this game. The real reason he put on his helmet is because its a 3rd person game, Gordon Freeman never needed to put on a helmet because we dont get to stare at his face.

Edit: Well head, not face, either way its not that important.

pretty much what I'm going through, but I'm dying so many times it got frustrating. I downloaded the Obsidian suit, and makes the game much more manageable, while still being somewhat challenging. I'm just wondering though, I can upgrade hit points right? because I know the suit is maxed out in armor.

He's an engineer, the helmet is required to do his job and his job is to fix the Ishigura. Why wouldn't he put it on?

Not questioning the helmet motif but the fact that he put it on as soon as the player took control of the character seemed a little too contrived to me. You can't see his face! Because he's... YOU!

Also, I started this on HARD.

I like my games challenging and/or scary/immersive.

Am I going to regret this?

I heard Medium was lame.

I'm in chapter 3. Got my plasma cutter almost all the way upgraded (damage is already finished) working on my rig upgrade too.

This game is pretty sweet.

Well he's the only engineer on the team, and the only one who walks in the vacum. MakeS perfect sense to me.

And you can see his face before he puts on his helmet.

but you can see his face... just rotate the camera. The game has lost its scare factor for me (on chapter 5) still great though.

Sorry if this has been asked already but for people who have beaten the game, roughly how long did it take you? I want this game but I'm leaning towards just renting it. After getting the mileage that I got out of games like Bionic Commando for a mere $10 it's getting really hard for me to justify purchasing $60 single player games that are ~10 hours long.

My first game was on Hard and I got to mid chapter 2 and i died about 15-20 times. Then I said fuck it, got way too frustrating restarted on medium. Wow what a complete joke. So fucking easy, 2 shots and the guys go down, you have a TON of health packs/plasma cutter and loaded with cash compared to Hard, where you are surviving on 6 plasma cutters and no health packs.
I'm gonna continue my original game on Hard. Easy was way too boring. At least on Hard you HAVE to run away, on easy they die before they even touch you. New comers stay away from Normal.
I'm thinking of slapping on the obsidian suit for Hard, cuz I'm sure in the later levels it will be a nightmare.

I find Hard to be ridiculously hard, unforgiving, frustrating, and totally worth it. It makes the game feel even more tension-filled. The odds feel so stacked against you, that surviving every encounter feels like such a major accomplishment. I'm at Chapter 8, the game clock says 5 hours, but I know it's probably about double that amount. You'll spend a lot of time replaying the same section over and over again.

Completed the game in 10 hours for medium, now touching up the achievements. I didn't like the final area
Damn I hate escort missions (bringing that damn Human copied Marker thingy and the kinetic gun is finicky at times
. Overall a well paced and great game. And lol at the ending.
At least you see Issac's face

i actually agree with che, i had the same thought. i was spinning the camera and got a look at the character's face at first. then, i was surprised when the first thing he does when he gets up is puts on a helmet.

they could have come up with some excuse that there is some oxygen breach in that hangar and all the people put helmets and take them off when they get to the welcome area. and maybe he keeps it on because he's scared shitless, or maybe the rays on it creep the monsters out a little. i dont know.

still enjoying the game though. just a little nitpick.

I picked this up today, completed chapter 1. Will be going for a chapter each sitting. I bought the DLC suits because I like costumes and I didn't realize they suck (and one was free) How the hell do I take them off and go back to plain vanilla?

Anyone got any tips on how to
kill the Leviathan at the end of chapter 6

The way I did it.
First shoot the yellow parts of the tentacles, destroy all 3. Next go closer use the kinetic gun to push back the rock thing he's throwing at you, once he's not producing or shooting any rock stuff at you, use your weapon and shot in the middle of it's mouth, rinse and repeat

Try to move closer it's hard to aim from afar.

Edit: Ohh have you upgraded your cutter yet? At least you'll need one or two points of damage upgrade to make things easier.

Just started chapter 2 and am loving the game. Any opinions on what to get for the second gun? I still just have the plasma cutter...ended up spending a big chunk of my credit on the lvl 2 suit..was that dumb?

You dont like the look or what they offer you? Because the scorpion suit is pretty much everything a level 5 suit has to offer.

Having a lvl 2 suit is better, you have more inventory slots and you take less damage from hits. Do you wish to get the complete the game with one gun achievement? If not look at your inventory to see what extra ammo types you have more of, then buy the weapon.

Honestly the cutter is a really good weapon to me, just need to upgrade it's damage and you're set.

I don't like the look, I want to go back to normal and play the game without them, and now I can't seem to take them off.
