Watched the story recap video, I forgot how much of a clusterfuck the game becomes. I now remember I was like yeeeah this has officially gone off the rails when the story went into "AND THEN THE ILLUMINATI--" without missing a beat.

Any hopes that this game is gonna tone down on the crazy a bit? No spoilers of course, just wanted to see if there were any dev statements saying as much.

was hr your first deus ex game?

Yeah. Edge liked Human Revolution enough to the point they awarded Eidos Montreal the best studio award for 2011.

The Illuminati IS Deus Ex though....lol....at least thats what I was told. I say that as someone who hasn't played the original is all and somebody in this thread told me those exact words.

Oh, nice! Didn't know they did that. To me parts of Deus Ex involve it being a bit janky, stiff animations and not exactly ahead of the curve graphics so it's more the world + gameplay (do I find it engaging and going "Oh, just one more hour").

And yeah. The Illuminati are a huge part of Deus Ex. I played HR then the first - beaten HR a bunch and the first 3 times now - but the conspiracy stuff and Illuminati is part of the makeup for the series. It's meant to be a big, crazy story with moments that make you think as opposed to some dead serious dramatic story - or at least something more in the vein of TLoU.

I think there was an interview with Warren Spector (Director of DX1) and the writer where they said to give the world flavour etc they research some conspiracy theories and were shocked in the years inbetween the game and whenever the interview took place that a few turned out to be true.

TLDR: Deus Ex involving big corporation conspiracies and The Illuminati is NOT it going off the rails. It's the whole point.

The review isn't too detailed but it sounds cool, basically a refinement of Human Revolution. As you would expect there are a lot of ways to tackle objectives, including the boss battles. They say it does a very good job of creating a sense of a real lived in city whilst also building elaborate sandboxes to play around in. It is good at letting you just adapt to the situation rather than being punished for making mistakes.

They do complain about the script and acting, which apparently varies a lot in quality.

edit: I haven't really been following this so know idea if this is known, I'll spoiler this incase (boss spoiler)
There are apparently conversation based 'boss fights' where you just have a debate with someone, and depending on how you have specced you can get details on the other persons motives/personality etc

Yeah, the original game was all about the Illuminati and Majestic 12 and secret government cover ups at Area 51 and pretty much every other conspiracy theory out there in the late nineties-early aughts. The setting is to tin foil hattery what The Witcher is to fairy tales. Human Revolution turned it down quite a bit but kept a lot of references to the various factions of the first game, which makes the out of the blue mentions of the Illuminati feel kinda funny.

Any Xbox impressions that anyone's seen on the web? I usually go PS4, but that's become my Overwatch machine for all intents and purposes.

I honestly thought when they unveiled it that it would be a VR add-on given the art style and everything.

I was thinking the same thing while watching it, was almost sad I'd be missing out on that if it was just VR exclusive.

Going to preorder this on Saturday, getting the PS4 version now and the PC version on sale in a year or so. I played through HR so many times and seeing the few early impressions in here is already making me stupid excited.

Yeah someone on reddit had a copy. They said it ran great, stable framerate though with the same hiccup as the PS4 where non-interactive cutscenes have some screen tearing when you look around but that was about it.

I did post the screenshot he shared with all the HUD turned off a few pages back.

I wonder how many copies they have to sell to break even. After that many years in development, it won't be easy...

Cool, thanks for the quick response.

It is.

I guess I mis-characterized the series, I thought it was something meant to be a lot more grounded, but form reading the rest of the posts it looks like the zaniness has always been a part of the series.

Oh well, I guess I know what to expect moving forward at least.

they decided to not have the twin towers in the deus ex sky line

the game came out before 9/11

mind blown

Thought i'd just put this here, but I've been playing this on the PS4 since the weekend, put in maybe 10 hours or so gameplay and i've just hit a game-breaking bug. I'm still in the first hub and while down in the sewers I was in an encounter which caused my status to go to Hostile followed by Panic.

When you escape from detection, enemies/drones will cycle between Hostile > Searching > Panic before switching off. When I left the sewers, my game is now permanently stuck in the Panic state, no matter what I do. What this means is that I cannot speak to any NPC's because they're in constant fear however the enemies, despite in the Panic status and looking for someone, won't attack me either.

I've tried several things and there seems to be no way out of this so I'm forced to start over. This is with the latest version (1.02 released today) so when you get the game i'd advise making multiple save files.

Ugh, that sucks. My days of single save files are long gone. For reasons similar to what you are experiencing.

I know that the bug is infuriating, but have you enjoyed the game so far?

Both guns were shit. Infect the pistol was the best gun in the game due to the armor piercing attachment. Instead of doing 25 or 50% of the guns damage against enemies you did 100% so in the end the pistol could one shot all but the juggernaut dudes in the head. The sniper rifles could do the same but they were bigger, one wasn't suppressed, and ammo was rarer.
The Linebacker grenade launcher was pretty sweet though.

That's like blaming a Metal gear game to focus around.....a metal gear.

Deus Ex has been about Illuminati since the first game where they were heavily influencing the world.

Too early for a review thread ooorr

Yeah because nobody else will be putting theres up until Friday morning. Kinda surprised Edge had it so quick honestly.

We always have a Edge magazine thread for new issues though but we don't really have anything aside from the Deus Ex score. lol

Yeah, the game is excellent, better than HR for sure and seems like theres a lot to find as well. I also like the changes to the Augments.

I have an I7 4790k + GTX 980 + 16GO de ram, PC or PS4 ? is there a good comparaison videos between both versions ? cause if it's not really that different, I'll prefer getting it on PS4 for the platinum...

Why contain it? It's cool

don't know if a lot of people know this but there are 4 different control schemes to choose from (from watching the person that was streaming the PS4 version over the weekend)

Mankind Divided - the new default control scheme for the game

Human Revolution - a control scheme that is as close to the one from HR that they could do for MD

Breach - the control scheme from Breach mode

(forgot the name) - a control scheme that is like most modern FPS games as close as they can do

PS4. Your PC will struggle to get the same consistent performance I think.

Definitely look to upgrade.

One guy a few pages ago is playing the game on medium settings with a 770 and getting nearly 60FPS. That's probably console level graphics at double the framerate.

Might want to check your sarcasm detector buddy.

I just find it hilarious that anyone with those specs would ever ask that question. If you want trophies fair enough, but the answer is obvious with those specs what the difference will be...

My main gripe with HR was how there wasn't any unique loot or guns. It kinda made exploring less engaging than it ought to be (Fallout: New Vegas is king in this regard). Anyone know if this has been improved?
Thats because the guns were about customization. All i can tell you is to keep playing fallout, because thats not the type of game deus ex is.

I think we should wait a little more but somebody with a 2gb video card said that it was running it smoothly. I have less RAM and a lesser video card but i run witcher 3 a lot better on my rig than on my ps4.

Since the embargo is friday, better wait for all the review to come out to take a decision

Deus Ex GO is already up, and the 20 minutes I played are great.

Yeah the iOS version went up this morning and now Android is up. I bought it for both. lol I've got a 4+hour trip on the train to Chicago for a business trip this week so the timing was perfect.

Still odd though that the GO game rewards you praxis points for Mankind Divided but only the PC and Xbox One versions... =|

I forgot about that one. Saving tong's kid and I think it was placed on the harbour level as well iirc. Problem was ammo available. I mean there were pickups but not enough to justify using it.
Yeah that was the problem with all the late game weapons, along with them being introduced too late to really get to use them in any meaningful way.

So far the things that bum me out are from (videos and such):

- Pre-rendered cut-scenes
- That the stealth kills/k.o's are still a cutscene
- Facial animations

everything else is really looking good. Such a bummer that until Mafia 3 this will most likely be the only game that I want to play :/

There are going to be a lot of difference in terms of performance and graphics given your PC specs.

Hell, for me, just FOV is huge in FPS games, never midn 60+ FPS and higher resolutions. Better Graphics is just the gravy on top.

Yeah you can earn up to 5 praxis points to use in the main game when it launches but again it's only for 2 out of 3 platforms. I'm confused as to why they would omit the PS4 version?
