Doctor Who 50th Anniversary |OT| Splendid Chap, All Of Them

Certainyl looks like the Brigaide Leader, but it just seems a really really strange character to put in such a prominent location in the video that I don't think it's him.

Agreed, that's why I think it's John Hurt, it would've made more sense to put him by Sarah Jane and the 3rd Doctor stuff.

So any chance of a montage of the Doctors in the 50th? I mean the trailer did show all of them under distress. Starting with Hartnell and the Dalek (When did that happen at Totters Lane?) and ending with McGann struggling with his photobombing career.

Earlier at the BBC: "We've got John Hurt playing a previous version of the Doctor in the 50th anniversary episode, he was the big reveal from the end of the last series and is a major new piece of the Doctor's past, but let's not put him anywhere in this 50th anniversary trailer. I do like that large holster he wears around him that holds his sonic screwdriver though, let's keep that and have the alternate reality version of the Brigadier from that 3rd Doctor story with his back turned to the camera in a prominent position facing off against Tennant. It'll make no sense but I'm sure it'll be perfect!".

Two favourite bits from the trailer:

It was super-impressive as a whole, but these two scenes were definitely the highlights for me. Really beautifully executed.

The attention to detail in the trailer really is mental/magnificent - for instance, the mountain structure the Eleventh Doctor is standing on is in the shape of the crack in Amy's wall, ever-so-briefly visible when it zooms out skywards at the end.

Also -- bizarre, but it was slightly warming to hear Billie Piper say "Doctah" in among the echoes during the trailer. Regardless of how some of her story concluded, she's still sort of the definitive companion for me. Her and Sarah - who it was also lovely to see given such prominence, as she deserves.

I'd love if there were a 50th anniversary special where the Tardis loses the ability to travel back in time because some universal overseer starts deleting the past in favor of creating new universes and the Doctor has to stop him. It's an anniversry, so why not be a little meta for an episode?

I have a feeling while undoubtedly big on time war lore and things they'll probably keep the 50th relatively straightforward on the timey wimey front, as it's an episode likely to draw in people who wouldn't usually watch. Proper little bit of event TV.

The trailer is pretty good, well done. Tom's scarf's colours don't look correct though, and Pertwee's face looks a bit strange. Do you think it was mostly CG and body doubles for the close ups of the Doctors, like Hartnell?

I mentioned that over on Gallifrey Base actually, it was the first thing that jumped out at me as being off in the trailer. I'm not even certain it's actually Pertwee.

I took a shot at face-swapping Pertwee's segment with a more immediately recognisable image:

I'm thinking the "hero" shots are probably a mix of archive photos digitally grafted onto real-life body doubles in costume. I'm fairly certain I've seen the stills of Hartnell and Baker used for their faces in the trailer, and I doubt the budget would've covered digital reproductions of the actors.

Yeah that's actually more to what I was thinking, they may have had to do some extra work to make it all look good though I suppose.

I CANNOT BELIEVE THEY DID NOT INVITE KING TOM BAKER AKA THE LONGEST RUNNING AND THE BEST DOCTOR EVER TO AT LEAST MAKE A 2 SECOND CAMEO.INSTEAD WE GET WHITEBREAD CLARA AND MATT'S WEIRD LACEFRONT.

The official tumblr thingy says they're 3D models.

They're 3D models, but built off old photos and stills. This is where the shot of Hartnell is from, for instance:

They can all be traced similarly.

Pretty impressive level of detail, especially for a BBC promo. I mean, look at this:

(Sorry for crappy phone screenshot).

The stitching at the edges of the scarf are only visible for a split-second, and yet there they are. I'm actually a little blown away.

Cool, I thought they may be 3D models, but I wasn't sure if it might of been some other manipulations of various elements.

Still, Tom's scarf colours are off ;)

So is Matt a 3d model at the end too, because something looks off about his head on the body. Like they forgot an inch or two of neck.

Well as I posted above, there's a picture of a set full of Daleks that was said to be behind the scenes of new scenes being shot specifically for the special trailer. It's going to be more than a clip show, I think.

Those are Time War era Daleks I'd say, along with the weird Galifreyan looking arches from this picture we got of the Daleks;

And the DotD poster;

So it's probably going to be focused on Hurt Doctor. Not such a stretch of the imagination to think it might show the birth of the Hurt Doctor...

That trailer was excellent, but it doesn't match up with what we saw in the behind the scenes for the specially made trailer... so I'd wager we're getting another trailer soon!

Man, trying to decode the plot given the details we've been given... we know it changes Who, and it takes place on Earth. Earth's always been a big part of DW, along with "NO MORE"... Earth gets totalled? I don't know! Man a month is far too long to wait, I'm so hyped.

Honestly I'm at the point where I don't care if we get a footage trailer, we've come so long without one, I feel like it's relatively easy to go in spoiler free, there's been so little spoilers to leak.

Can't seem to find it on the BBCA or BBC site, but what time does this air on the 23rd? DST ends on Nov 3 in the US so I think that puts EST 5 hours before the UK time.

Hasn't been announced yet. BBC (the UK one) doesn't really announce the exact time they'll air a show until 10-ish days before it's on TV. As it'll be shown live around the globe, you won't know the US timeslot until you know the British one.

(Though I'm guessing it'll either air at 7 or 8 on BBC One. Unless they decide to go for 5:15, in keeping with the first episode 50 years ago, but that would be madness)

It won't be, I shouldn't think, as releasing a print to cinemas could lead to leaks. They'll probably start the day after.

Ah, I didn't think they'd actually be handing out prints, I figured it would have just been a live broadcast to cinemas, which is a very "in" thing at the moment for major bands and the like.

But I guess it being in 3D could cock some of that up. Still, if it's good I'll gladly see it again on a big-ass screen.

They're showing it in 3D on TV too, and it will be shown at the same time at cinemas:
BBC Worldwide today announces that the special 50th Anniversary episode of Doctor Who, the world’s longest running and most successful sci-fi series will, for the first time ever, be broadcast simultaneously to millions of viewers worldwide in a global simulcast on 23rd November 2013.

From Canada to Colombia, Brazil to Botswana and Myanmar to Mexico, fans in at least 75 countries spanning six continents will be able to enjoy the episode in 2D and 3D* at the same time as the UK broadcast, with more countries expected to be confirmed within the next month. The US, Australia and Canada have also signed up for the simulcast which will be shown in numerous countries across Europe, Latin America and Africa. In addition to Matt Smith and Jenna Coleman, the one-off special, entitled The Day of the Doctor stars former Time Lord David Tennant as well as Billie Piper, and John Hurt.

On top of the worldwide TV broadcast, hundreds of cinemas in the UK and across the world also plan to screen the hotly anticipated special episode simultaneously in full 3D, giving fans the opportunity to make an event of the occasion and be part of a truly global celebration for the iconic British drama series. Details about tickets for the anniversary screening will be announced in due course.

The free-to-air 3D coverage will be available to those with access to a 3D TV set and to the BBC’s HD Red Button service. This is part of the BBC’s two-year trial experimenting with 3D production and distribution, which has also included selected coverage from Wimbledon 2012 and the London 2012 Olympic Games.

* 3D television broadcast is subject to availability within global region.

Doubt there'll be many cinemas showing it here in Northern Ireland, tickets will probably sell out fast.

Not announced yet. BBC America supposedly have it scheduled for 2:45pm EST, 7:45 pm GMT.

This is probably going to be my first time watching Doctor Who on BBC America, so I want to know if they show a lot of commercials thus shortening the run time?
