Doctor Who 50th Anniversary |OT| Splendid Chap, All Of Them

They say all of this stuff pretty clearly in the episode:

where the wormhole came from

The Moment showing the War Doctor what kind of person he becomes if he uses it.

what the shapeshifting people's motivations were

Their planet was destroyed in the Time War so they were taking over Earth to make it their new home.

how all 12 doctors somehow teamed up

It's a show about time travel.

How baker managed to make an appearance

Fair enough on this one. It's just a cameo for the anniversary though, you're not meant to think too much about it.

why the consciousness of that machine looks like Rose.

It selected an image the Doctor would be familiar with. Except it gets past and future mixed up and so picked one he didn't know yet.

Also, looks like the whole Silence thing should be resolved at Christmas along with the regeneration, hopefully along with whoever blew up the TARDIS.

Did you think season 7 wasn't fast either?
It wasn't. To answer some of your questions.

The time wormhole was opened up by The Moment to show the War Doctor what his future would be like if he was to press the button.

The Moment looked like Rose because she chooses a form familiar to the user, she explicitly states that she may have confused his future and past and gets time mixed up all the time, so she chose Rose by accident not knowing he hadn't met her yet.

The Zygon's home was destroyed in the Time War so they were invading present day Earth from the past in order to take it over as theirs.

I was getting A little jaded about halfway through but by the end I was sold hook line and sinker.

John Hurt and Billie Piper were superb.

Roll on the Christmas special.

It wasn't.

Then I know the problem isn't me, its the fact that I'm on a message board on the internet about a TV Show where everyone is experts. Every person I know who watches doctor who has said the 7th season had a huge problem with being too complicated, fast paced, and convoluted. The other seasons were fine though.

It sounds like Baker was a future incarnation of the Doctor, perhaps he found a way to re-acquire old regenerations? It also seemed like he was retired.

Perhaps one day, the Doctor saves Gallifrey and they give him the ability to go back to old regenerations?

That would be badass.

Totally thought Tennant and Piper were going to be
Rose and Handy
. Since that wasn't the case, does that mean they might come back in the future?

Actually, I felt the Clara stuff wasn't handled as much as it should have been. A lot of the episodes felt totally stand alone.

I came several times in my pants.

And, yes, I think I have a feeling I know what the Christmas special will be about; with the return (well, not really a return, if we're going to go by the new timeline set out in the episode) of Gallifrey, we have the return of the Time Lords and, of course, The Master. I wouldn't be at all surprised if The Master pops up.

That was fucking fantastic. Just. Fuck.

I want to watch it again.

Going to marathon some classic Who for the rest of the day.

That's smooth thinking by BBCA.

Also, WTF @ The Master in this episode? CHICKEN AND CHIPS AND SKIN AND HOT RED BLOOD JUICE AND FAT STICKY FAT ANOMNOMNOMNOMNOM

So horrible. End of Time is like 90% cringe, 10% almost tolerable.

Yeah that is what was implied
really heavily.
Regardless it is something we will not see happen for a very long time, if ever. Most likely never. So I don't think it needs to be analyzed too much. Just take it at face value as a neat way to include the best Doctor in the 50th anniversary.

Sakes man, watching the afterparty show, eccleston even refused the five-ish doctors spoof written by peter davidson too
Tho as peter put it, "only one refused, i'll let you guess who it was"

Yeah we'll never see it. Theoretically it could be at the very end of his life, and the nature of the show mean we never need to see that.

What if..
Trenzalore is Gallifrey?

Oh my

Maybe the Silence falling is the crazy drums stopping in the Master's head.

Wait, how did the Master escape the Time War the first time anyway? Surely he can't escape it twice?

loved it. loved it. Also, Baker still has it.

Does that preview mean we are going to get the resolution of the silence stuff. specifically blowing up the Tardis? Bring it on!

omg I just realized

if Gallifrey is still there

SO IS THE MASTER

The whole plot of End Of Time revolves around Rassilon's plan to break Gallifrey out of its timelock, so the retcon isn't all that much of a retcon - the only difference is that in EoT, Gallifrey was trapped in the middle of the war. Here, Gallifrey seems to be locked in a moment after the end of the war.

The plot hole I'm confused about:
was Gallifrey trapped in that painting, then? When explaining the plan, Hurt Doctor makes it sound as though that's the case, but if so, why can't Gallifrey break out in the way the Zygon/Doctors could?

It sounds like Baker was a future incarnation of the Doctor, perhaps he found a way to re-acquire old regenerations? It also seemed like he was retired.

That would be badass.

Romana was able to choose the look of her next regeneration (presumably during the same fifteen hour period during where a Time Lord's body retains regeneration energy and which Ten used to rebuild his hand after it was chopped by off the Sycorax), so it might be a trick an older Doctor picks up. It's fair to assume that
now that Smith is technically the twelfth, he's going to get a new cycle of regenerations or the limit will be eliminated before changing into Capaldi.

This BBC three thing that's going on right now... Did they just rip into Eccleston?! :D

Yeah I think they said one rejection or something, didn't they? Shame he couldn't have come back for ten fucking seconds. Instead he was knobbing around in Thor 2

STOP SHITTING ON MY MOTHER'S HEADSTONE
So the Doctor grabs the Moment and tries to use it.

The Time Lord generals are keeping the Daleks back, while the Time Lord Council tries to figure out a way to escape the Doctor's impending destruction of Gallifrey. While the War Doctor, Ten, and Eleven are having their adventure with the Zygons, Rassilon uses the sound of drums in the Master's head to bring Gallifrey to Earth. He fails as Ten and the Master stop him, then Gallifrey returns to its place.

The War Doctor is about to destroy Gallifrey when the rest of the Doctors show up and they find another way. The three doctors, presumably with the help of the Moment, gather the rest of the Doctors, contact the Time Lord generals, and attempt to shove Gallifrey into a pocket universe while destroying the Daleks. They don't know if it works, until Eleven meets the Curator and discovers that there may be a way to get back to Gallifrey, and that's his new overall goal, right?

Everyone wanted an Ecclestone cameo. I wanted a Carey Mulligan cameo. Mulligan has a greater chance than Ecclestone!

Huh? I didn't get that impression at all. They're definitely not still in his time stream.

Having watched "The Name Of The Doctor,"
Lady Vastra, Jenny & Strous took the Tardis away from Trenzalore. The Tardis is not exactly within a phone call away to be recalled and jumping out of the Doctor's own timestream isn't the easiest thing in the world.

Still, everything in the show is easily explained, but it does add a few new wrinkles to Dr Who's lore.

An unreserved triumph from beginning to end. Genuinely one of the best episodes in the show's entire history. Some fantastic moments celebrating the show's past, present
and (dare I say it) future
. Had a great time at the cinema screening too. Fezes, sonic screwdrivers, Weeping Angels and even a few Daleks in abundance.

What if..
Trenzalore is Gallifrey?
Whoa.

Maybe the Silence falling is the crazy drums stopping in the Master's head.

Wait, how did the Master escape the Time War the first time anyway? Surely he can't escape it twice?
Double whoa.

There was pretty obviously a significant time gap between The Name of the Doctor and The Day of the Doctor. Clara was back in her time working at the beginning and got all excited that the Doctor had shown up again.

future goal. Only Smith doctor and future ones know that Gallifrey is not destroyed and they actually saved it.

Yes.

Now instead of aimlessly wandering, he now actually has a goal. In the words of Tennant's Doctor: "Trenzalore. We need a new destination because... I don't want to go."

Who else felt happy that the War Doctor became the Doctor again? I felt his redemption was amazing, but also really saddening when he forgets immediately after that regeneration to become Eccleston.

This so much. I was expecting him to be a villian in this, and it was really surprising to see him be this sad, old, weary man-who is redeemed by his future selves.

That moment was fantastic. Hurt was really, really good in this role.

Although everyone wants Eccleston, I think Hurt did a better job in this particular role than Eccleston could have. Eccleston works great as the 9th, the mourning Doctor but Hurt as the War Doctor was pretty much perfect casting imo.
