I love Doctor Who, but my Karen Gillan obsession kills some of the excitement for the series. Smith's Doctor is awesome, but whenever I see him on screen I'm like "look...can we just get Amy in the shot with you...just to your left? Please?"

I was having a hard time watching the Time and Space shorts just because there were TWO Karen Gillans. Too much of a good thing? Never.

Sounds like there aren't seats left for the event in NYC as of about 10:30am. Sucks. I came into work 3 1/2 hours early hoping I could leave early and go, but the theater is one of the smallest in Manhattan and as always there are way more people who have jobs where they can skip out on work than there are spots available at a nerd related event.

Now I'm exhausted and without the benefit of getting to see Karen. This blows!

I guess we wont get new gif avatars next season

On a lighter note, I guess Keyser will have an easier job picking out avatars from episodes now that he doesn't have to make .gifs of them.

I watched the first ever episode the other day. The first doctor was a jerk, he basically abducts two teachers.

More like Chesterfield and Ms. Wright barge their way into the TARDIS, intruding and making accusation and implications!

The first Doctor goes through a pretty decent arc from hating them to being quite fond of his human companions, and he still is to this day!

Exactly. They were butthurt that Susan was exceptionally bright and took it upon themselves to try and meddle in her private life.

STOP SHITTING ON MY MOTHER'S HEADSTONE
So I've actually been watching the episodes from that old neogaf DW marathon thread, even though the marathon is long since ended.

Yo, some of those old Who episodes were really good. I think Baker is currently my favorite old school Doctor, followed by Troughton. Sarah Jane Smith was my favorite companion, I think. Competent and likable.

Leela is really growing on me, though. I just finished the Talons of Weng-Chiang, which by the way is a fantastic episode even though it's super racist, and she had literally the most badass line I have ever heard a companion say.

Dude has her in a machine that's about to kill her and suck out her lifeforce basically. He says it's really painful. Like, REALLY painful.

"They pleaded for anything but this!"
"I will not plead, but I tell you this. When we are both in the Great Hereafter, I will hunt you down, Bent-Face, and put you through my agony a thousand times!"

Holy shit.

Sexcellent. I like the space hobo too.

My least favourite by a long shot is six. I like the lines and the idea behind that incarnation. I just dislike Colin Bakers portrayal.

So,
this returning character in the Gaiman episode. Any bets? Its someone with a new face, so maybe The Rani? Romana? Hell, it could even be Susan.

Rose? =(

It could just be a play on words when they reveal who River actually is. (If she's someone with a new face)

Well, the reason I speculate about
The Rani
is because
'Idris Rani'
is a very popular name in certain places in the world and we already know that Idris is in Gaiman's episode. In addition, Gaiman did have a character called
Rani
in one of his works called 'Cinnamon'. We already know that Idris is a myserious character and has something about her that even The Doctor doesn't believe.
Something about her having a 'new soul'.

Speculation of course, but I like the link.

It's not a
returning character, but 'an old face'. I'd bet a lot of cash it's not a someone from a past episode (unless it's something silly like the TARDIS).

Saying that though, look at this:

Idris has been described by Gaiman as “an old friend with a new face” and by producer Marcus Wilson as “a new take on a familiar character”, so presumably a returning character we've met before.

Will probably be harder, as people's faces usually look weird when paused in the middle of speaking or doing some action, so clipping one frame out may be be more work. Each animated avatar was probably only 1 minutes work, as I had an idea what would make a decent avatar after watching the episode. Only a few - like Subliminal dancing one - took a bit longer as it was harder to fit both character in the tight 90px image

...good times :/

Fuzzy

I would bang a hot farmer!
It's going to take me some time to get used to having a Who avatar. I don't think I've changed it from Mr. Rogers in 4 or 5 years other than the Christmas edits.

So, has the copyright on the character of the Rani expired yet? That was pretty much what I understood to be the reason she was never used again on the tv series.

That was what I understood of it too. Who knows?

Patience is also a key candidate given the title of the episode. She's very important. They'd need quite a bit of Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey there.

That would be a huuuuuuge surprise.

I really need to calibrate my monitor - those 3D images don't work for me and I have OFFICIAL Doctor Who magenta/cyan glasses!

The first one is slightly off but still effective. The rest work really well. I'm using my Coraline 3D glasses.

I'm assuming it had something to do with the crack. Guess we'll find out soon enough =D

Wibbly wobbly timey wimey! Now that time can be rewritten, we could see some great new stuff like this without interrupting established events.
Perhaps this is a new origin story for the Cybermen? Some of the Cybus crap ending up in Mondas hands, hence the updated Cybermen without the Cybus logo perhaps? I'm really excited now. The Cybermen are my favourite old-school Who villian, just because they never lost their edge, unlike the Daleks.

Apparently, the way
the Silence
operate is that
if you see one and then stop looking at it, you'll forget you ever saw it.

As for the
Cybermen, I suspect they'll never explicitly reference where they're coming from.

You're missing the most important part...

It's missing the Cybus logo

That photo is from the episode
"A Good Man Goes To War".

Also, new photo of the new alien race from the Impossible Astronaut.

Don't like the hands.

Also, the promo people for Who do terrible justice to some of the monsters in these pics. It's not a great pic of what is a pretty spooky alien.

So, uh. Saw the early screening last night but wasn't sure if people wanted to read any spoilers or not. It's really on a whole other level, as good as the late season 5 stuff and personally I would say better; so I was thinking it's probably best not to spoil anything since people should just see it.

But, to elaborate just a little on your first point: (from the early screening)
the idea is put forth that the Silence have been here much longer than we could possibly guess, nudging humanity down a certain path without our being able to remember it.

DoctorWho said:
Yeah, if people have specific spoilers from the screening, make sure you state that.

Yeah, decided to add it in as bolded just in case.

So weird though to have a few people in line express their concern for the coming season because of how much they hate River. Is that a common opinion?
