Eccleston, the ninth Doctor announced he was leaving after just one series to be replaced by David Tennant.

"I was open-minded but I decided after my experience on the first series that I didn't want to do any more," he said.

"I didn't enjoy the environment and the culture that we, the cast and crew, had to work in.

"I thought if I stay in this job, I'm going to have to blind myself to certain things that I thought were wrong."

But the 46-year-old said the fact that he played the Doctor - and not that he had quit - was "the most important thing".

"I really feel that because it kind of broke the mould and it helped to reinvent it.

"I'm very proud of it."

BBC apology
In an initial statement announcing his exit in March 2005, the BBC said the actor was afraid of being typecast and had found the series gruelling.

The corporation later accepted the statement was incorrect and that it had not spoken to Eccleston before releasing it.

"They handled it very badly but they issued an apology and I dropped it," he added.

So.

Karen Gillan on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson on April 22nd.

YES.
Oh, god. That will be awesome. Craig interviewing hot women is always funny, but add in the Who factor and she is Scottish as well and this could be incredible.

Don't know if this has been mentioned but Xbox Live has some Dr. Who stuff up now on the dashboard. (Videos, Gamer Pics, and a non-premium theme.)

Really wish they'd do a Premium theme, or some Avatar items. Having my Avatar holding the Sonic, or having a little Dalek pet, would be awesome.

Are they free? :)

I heard eccleson was always a jerk on everything he works on. I heard he did nothing but grief everyone on the G.I. Joe set.

My brother worked as an extra on G.I. Joe and said the same thing. That Eccelston was a spoiled, scrawny, whiny lil brat.

But doing stand in/extra work on G.I. Joe and Inception he said that Joseph Gordon Levitt is one of the nicest and coolest people he has met. Just further confirms my man crush on JGL.

I have such a man crush on John Barrowman.

True story, my wife just got an autographed photo from him the other day. She got Tennant's about 5 months ago.

Hetero male here, but I will say that if John Barrowman would have me, I would let him.

The Brilliant book also hints that
Susan is alive. I know The Doctor has said that his whole family died in The Time Wars but there has been a lot of Time War hints and they've brought people back before. I mean, they could even bring Romana back.

It would be fucking awesome if they got Susan, Romana and Omega to return. somehow.

I'm pretty sure JGL is my favorite actor ever. I've never disliked a movie he's been in and he's always fantastic, plus he's a pretty badass and awesome guy outside of that.

It's a shame about Eccelston, he's a fantastic actor but all the rumors about him being an ass to work with sucks.

I was watching the curse of Fenric aswell as Remembrance of the Daleks. Sylvester McCoy is my favourite doctor. He is both a bumbling clown and a badass master of mind games, especially in the audios.

Question: I know it's been done before, but at this point, is it sacrilege to have an new actor play the role of an earlier Doctor? The 50th anniversary is coming up, a multiple Doctors story must be a given when it rolls around, and although just having Tennant would be enough for some, I want it to be a big affair. As it is, only the last 5 Doctors (including Smith) can be used, but I'd really like to see, at the least, a crossover with 1, 4, 5, 9, 10 and 11.

Sacrilege! Although the late Richard Hurndall was decent at playing the first doctor in the five doctors.

I'd like an Eight/Nine/Ten/Eleven/Four crossover.

The Eighth Doctor has some cool stuff go down that we never got to see, Ecceleston was awesome, Tennant was fine and of course the current doctor. Four because he's the doctor most people think of when they think of Doctor Who. He's iconic.

Fuck it, throw in Seven and Five too.

Would be awesome for all of them to arrive at the same place, arriving in different directions. The all have a drawn out thinking moment, then Four leans forward and says to his future selves. . 'Would you like a Jelly Baby?' and they all enthusiastically say 'thought I'd never ask'.

Orgasm.

Haha, that sounds GREAT.

The thing with 7 and 8 is that they have long stretches of untold history in which they could grow old. Heck, when 7 regenerates he's already pretty old. And of course, we never saw McGann regenerate, so he could appear for years to come, which is useful. So a modern Doctors story could easily implement those Doctors with no need for continuity explanations.

Also: I trust Moffat to find suitable actors to portray the out-of-action Doctors. If this was still RTD days, I'd be against such an event just for the fact that he'd make into a fan-wanky fuck-up that would embarass most involved. Moffat knows how to handle stuff though. He'd pull it off with aplomb.

The best thing they could do would be to air it as a two-parter on Christmas Day/New Year's Day, call it the Six Doctors (1,3,5,8,9,11) and then have 4 and 10 appear at the end, with the credits saying 'NEXT WEEK: THE 8 DOCTORS' and then have fans jizz all other the Whoniverse.

I'd think getting Tom Baker and Chris Eccleston would be problematic. Eccleston for reasons that have already been gone over, but I'm pretty sure I read that Baker wasn't in the Five Doctors because he refused to do it.

Also because Tom Baker is now pretty fucking old. That's why I suggested another actor played the 4th Doctor.

...I think Eccleston could be persuaded.

Eccleston could be persuaded, especially for a one off.

Anyone else playing the most iconic Doctor would be a big no-no for me. In fact I'd be quite angry. I'd rather they leave him out than recast the 4th Doctor.

To be fair, a throwaway line in Time Crash pretty much sorts any aging issues out forever. Which is nice.

I expect Tennant & McGann for the 50th anniversary, but I'd be surprised if anyone else is involved.

If nothing's gone awry with the marriage by then, I'm sure he could coax his father-in-law along.

I don't like that thing though. At all. It's a shitty excuse to allow Doctors to look old and I hate that it's canon. Wibbly wobbly timey wimey only goes so far :(

Lie back and think of
Andrew Lloyd Webber
. YEAH BABY!

Another +1 for Eccleston love.

It would be a crime not to have Sean Pertwee play the 3rd Doctor. I'm sticking by my picks for the 50th anniversary.

3rd, 8th and 11th.

Don't speak about avatars, the new rules make me sad. I was looking forward to creating Who avatar this season, and soon GOB will go too - after 6+ years :/

I decided to use the change to update my avatar. The old TARDIS picture I've used for years is kind of janky. This one is much nicer =D

Emergency Program 1. Good lord I also tear up.

Not to make this a "my fav doctor who moment" but this one is mine

It was my first Doctor speech about how the universe is just a bit more then we will ever understand. I always thought Eccelston did that so very well.

Could you create anaglyph 3D avatars?

I actually want to see someone sport an Amy's Crotch avatar.

Look at the crotch.

Actually, this Amy crotch avatar is better. (It's avatar sized too, so whoever wants it can take it...)

Another true believer enters the fold.

I actually watched the Seasons 1 and 2 of the new Dr Who and I was about halfway through Season 3 when I kinda lost interest in it. Never got back to watching it or Season 4, but when my parents got Season 5 I thought I'd give it a look and wow, I love it.

Something about Season 5 just feels so fresh and new and it's not just the new doctor. The writing, the locations, the characters just all feel way better than what I saw in Season 3.

There was a whole new team in charge for Season 5, and the lead writer who used to pull ideas out of his arse for every episode got replaced with a guy who plans ahead
