Donkey Kong Bananza Direct has more views than PlayStation State of Play June 2025 and Xbox Games Showcase 2025.

It seems many people are more hyped by the new Donkey Kong Direct than the latest games showcased by PlayStation and Xbox, as shown by the viewer numbers and likes.

My thirst for something first party after MK contributed to this.
I suspect most owners are already looking to the next major release. I dont particularly find MKWorld to be very deep.

I'm not a Nintendo fanboy. Actually, I often find Nintendo extremely lazy, and am baffled by how much glaze their drones lay on.

This is deserved. It's the most I've been convinced watching a game in a while. I think some of the art design is tryhard, but otherwise, everything is in place. It so easily could've been an Odyssey rehash, but it looks fundamentally different and suited around DK as a character.

Meanwhile, most of the games from both Sony and Xbox this NotE3 season look so ridiculously archetypal and tired, I wonder whether or not the studios seriously expect anyone to buy into their shit. I only wish this direct beat the shit out of the views for SGF showcase. But even then, I'm getting increasingly suspicious of Keighley's event numbers, claimed or evidenced (bots).

Maybe if State of Play had shown games like Ape Escape, Sly Cooper, Jak & Daxter and SSX then it could have been more exciting.

Good on Nintendo for attempting to make this game the Zelda/Mario premiere launch window title of their new console.

I hope to it sells well enough for them to consider doing this high stakes AAA gamble with other I.P.

I have to say that this Direct sold me on the game much much more than the initial reveal and previews.

At the moment any 1st party game from Nintendo, regardless of quality, would have that effect, even the trailer for the next PS2 looking Pokemon game would do it.

Xbox is like a virgin that discovered the joy of sex and became the town slut, giving it to anyone, and nobody gets excited about it anymore and Sony gave up gaming to do whale hunting expeditions that failed miserably and are now shifting their attention to weeaboo fondling.

I was already sold based on the Hulk Ultimate/Red Faction level of destruction as those types of games aren't made often anyway. However, I was worried that the public wouldn't take to it.

It still might not sell well enough, but at least the views and likes are a good sign.

Word of mouth and being in the launch window should have it do well into the holidays. A lot of people love Donkey Kong across multiple generations, so it should do good! Game is going to be amazing.

Well well, hold your horses if you talk about Red Faction if we mean Guerrilla as the levels had architecture based on the destruction engine (albeit yes it was limited to some parts of the level there and in Bananza it is way more extensive).

In Bananza you can essentially reshape an entire level and remove a mountain 😂, but I have yet to see the almost majestic effect of kind of feeling a structure's mechanical stress slowly starting to show, glass breaking, beams slowly bending, and it all leading to collapse of the entire thing.

Still, it is a very neat destruction engine to which they added tons of gameplay on (building sand bridges / sand castle like structures could be exhilarating).

Pokemon unfortunately lost some of it's 'Wow factor' sheen. Yes, it still sells due to strong I.P. but they need to be careful to not nosedive the property like Halo or something. Even Pokemon fans have been a bit cautious about the latest games.

They probably feel very thankful and fortunate that the millennial audience managed to convince their Gen Z and Gen Alpha kids to also get into Pokemon.

I meant Red Faction as a whole. In Red Faction 1 you could just blast holes through entire maps, especially if you activated unlimited ammo.

This game has become one of my most hype game this year. It looks like absolute joy to play.

This is type of game that makes me love this hobby even more.

I own a PS5 Pro and a (now unused) Xbox Series X but don't watch Microsoft or Sony presentations due to the use of trailers and whatnot. Instead I just watch YouTube coverage of the highlights of both events and read gaming sites to get a gist for what games were shown, cherry picking the follow up videos to watch for specific games. Far less boring in my experience since these events are usually full of cringe and filler between the genuine gameplay.

I did watch the Nintendo Direct DK Bananza event though because they are usually focused on gameplay and that presentation was basically 17 minutes of gameplay. Nintendo are without a doubt the best at showcasing their games and making them look exciting and desirable to have.

I think one of the things that Nintendo does very well (or at least Nintendo EPD), which is often underestimated as hell, is that they make the basic actions in their games feel good to do. In Mario games, it feels just fucking good to jump. And from what they have shown in this direct, it looks like it feels satisfying as fuck to punch shit.
If I remember correctly, Miyamoto once called this "Tegotae" in an interview.

I seem to recall a phrase with regard to how Nintendo make games. Is it "walled garden"? That is, the game is like a garden where nintendo put in stuff that can be enjoyed such as running, jumping, and in this case smashing and breaking. And make sure that those gaming mechanics are as fluent and enjoyable to perform by the gamer (if I may be so bold as to use that phrase) as possible. The story is added at the end but is not the main thing.

In that context, Nintendo seem to have put in lots of enjoyable things to do in this game. For me who often disregard the plot and just run around inside a Zelda game, or a Xenoblade game (or for that matter Witcher 3), and just do whatever that strikes my fancy at the time, yep. this game should have a lot for me to just interact with and give me a fun time. Must just buy that Switch 2 first..

OPs entire personality is nintendo.

The monkey game is popular; who cares? it looks fun, i'd even consider getting a S2 for it.

One Nintendo first party game gathering more interest than combined directs from Xbox and PS? Seems just like normal. Those consoles are only being bought to play Madden, EA sports FC and CoD. Nintendo consoles are bought to play first party games.

Serious The Four GIF by Diddy

Live service is what dominates PS and Xbox ecosystem these days. No matter how much PS hardcore fans hyped Astro Bot, the reality is no one in that ecosystem cared and it sold about as much as low efforts Wii or 3DS ports on Switch did. While games like Donkey Kong Bananza will outsell that stuff on like day 1 on a minuscule install base. People don't buy classic games on Xbox or PS anymore, only caring about stuff like CoD.

Crazy the State of Play has almost 20% dislike ratio there.
It's obvious as to why.

Nintendo constantly feeds their nostalgic base with sequels/entries and in addition they also don't have to worry about pleasing a percentage of fans who prefer only western-centric games, because the only series that barely even qualifies as western-centric is Metroid.

Also, unfortunately for Sony, they will continue to receive an automatic 5-10% dislike every time some random twitter user mentions Bloodborne right before any new State of Play.
