Doom The Dark Ages Steam CCU peaked at 31,470

I am trying to finish a couple games before I get around to this game but I am curious. To those that played it. Do yall feel this is a GOTY contender?

Me personally? No. It feels too much like a flash in the pan for me. I enjoyed my time with it of course, but parts of it just felt.... rushed. I feel like I beat 2016 and Eternal and left feeling some kind of way, but after this, I didn't. Maybe it didn't help to know I was already done with it and won't come back to it until DLC is out? I'm not sure.

I feel like I have to constantly iterate it's not bad, because it really isn't. I enjoyed my time with it and I really enjoyed some of the mechanics. But the final result just feels a bit lacking in areas for me.

Too soon to say if its GOTY but it is a contender for sure. We still have 7 more months but it is fantastic.

Aren't the sales of Clair Obscur primarily from the PlayStation and Steam/PC versions though? How did the game sell on the XBOX? If it ended up on Gamepass, I'd imagine the developers and Microsoft didn't really have a lot of confidence in it selling well on XBOX.

Just a reminder than an average boomer shooter on gamepass has a ceiling even if it is called Doom.

Big games carry gamepass and gamepass carries small games. That's just the way it is.

I'm sorry if everyone isn't there yet, but you will be. This is unsustainable.

In a year where Clair 33 already exists and most have decided this is the goty, and DS2 looming around the corner, you think doom the dark ages which has very mixed reception, will be a goty contender?

I want what you're smoking.

And people got mad when I said this?

Xbox needs to work on their output.

Edit:
Rephrased.
The clowns that said you were wrong about this is hiding better than Waldo. Legit thought this would hit 90k+ CCU, oof. How long until we get bullets shot metric or demons vanquished from Greenturd?

noo way.
it is better than eternal though, which i hated.
still doom, but much more manageable on a gamepad without all the forced weapon juggling and vertical acrobatics.
other than that, the stupid nonsensical narrative is enough to ban this from any goty talk.
contrary to all the engine shilling, graphically game doesn't look anywhere close to a generational leap either. maybe pt can add some meaningful difference there.

That game is going to win game of the year. As long as ms is looking after them then yes, gamepass is great.

Sure it might not make the same revenue as sales but that's the risk you take.

Its only the same as a company going with a marketing deal with Sony when you think about it.

This game isn't winning GOTY and you're living in la la land if you think so. Clair obscur: expedition 33 is winning it. End of story.

With Geoff and Kojima being boyfriends (even if Kojima doesn't know it)? I'm not sure man.

When kojima farts you can guarantee that geoff will be there to sniff his behind and tell him that it's the greatest and most pure smell he's ever smelled in his life. Hopefully geoff and the panel who vote on game of the year aren't morons though and do the right thing. Clair expedition deserves the award and the devs deserve the press that comes with it, along with the boost in sales that winning it brings.

Can't agree on the CO:E33 part but yeah, Geoff is a simp.

The Dark Ages may even miss the FPS/Action of the year tbh.

The game didn't look anything like doom when they announced it. When you take doom guy and start making the game bigger and more open, you lose the sense of dread or unease that more tightly knitt areas bring you. This game should've just been a new IP and they should keep doom guy in tighly knit rooms ala dead space to me personally.

Eternal was the Height of Doom. There was no way that the next doom game was going to be better. Just like Ashes of the Wake was Lamb of God's best album back in 2004, they haven't released anything that good since.

At any rate, 70 dollars out the gate, denuvo, game pass, sub-par gameplay killed this franchise. Thanks ID and Microsoft.

No shot. And to me 2016 was easily GOTY, and eternal was GOTG.

I don't hate it, it's somewhat enjoyable, but much worse than the previous two, and there have been better games this year, and there will probably be even more.

With Steam, I dont think you can compare games Exp 33 with Doom, because they have quite different audiences I think. There is overlapping and some like both genres, but it looks like RPGS and JRPGs do quite well on Steam, and games that appeal to the Asian market. Like the monkey game sold a billion copies in China, and Indiana Jones (the American hero) sold almost none. But then Steam used to have a lot of shooter diehards back in the day and probably still do with Counter Strike. And something about people who grew up with Doom are getting older and its tough to pull new fans in. I dont know if its brand or the kind of game, because its one hell of an action game and thats what should pull people in to play it and not because youve played Doom all your life.

With Game Pass its hard to say, how many chose to use that option. Just going by what people say in the threads a lot of them are playing it on game pass (Indy, Avowed, Doom).

Not a fan? I'm surprised.
Me too lol. Didn't like the music (well produced for sure, but not my jam) nor the characters, story, visuals or combat. Had some fun for like 20 hours but ended up dropping it at the start of act 2.

My GOTY so far would be KCD2, but there's still half a year left.

I was talking about expedition 33 not doom, apologies for not being clear.

I meant the game of the year was on gamepass.

BUT MUH RAY TRACINGG!!!
As you see people with 16xx series can play doom. Id need to fix it and allow run also on Pascal series. Radeon users can play via linux

P.S too early force only RT. It's should be start with PS6 gen, not now

Very few people outside of hardcore gaming forums use Game Pass on PC to actually play and not demo/trial games. It's easier and more convenient to buy a desired title in Steam with all the Steam meta (UI/UX, goodies, community) than to download random outdated Game Pass build that is usually conflicting with something like mods or other software.

Two factors are clearly overblown in this thread: RTX hardware (9 out of 10 top GPUs on Steam are RTX-enabled) and Game Pass. Because even with GP in mind, no way a franchise as big on PC as DOOM should gather x2-x4 less people than somewhat niche E33 or KCD2. Even Rebirth, that some at GAF love to present as some sort of failure, has gathered 40k CCU full year after it's PS5 release.

I didn't love Eternal, and it had nothing to do with the gameplay. The vibe was off. What makes Doomguy great is there's little backstory to him. He's just some soldier who was too pissed off to die, and loves killing demons. That's it, and Doom 2016 understood that. The only background lore you get from that game is the Demons writing a Bible about how terrified they are of him. That one day this fucking guy showed up out of nowhere and started relentlessly slaughtering them, and there was nothing they could do no matter what they threw at him. It was awesome.

Doom Eternal brought in heavier story elements, expanded the lore, and gave the "Doom Slayer" an origin I guess, and it never sat right with me.

Don't worry. Kojima about to drop the real GOTY next month.

One of the challenges with this game is being released right behind several well selling GOTY contenders like KD2, Split Fiction, and CO:E33, plus other big sellers like Monster Hunter, Oblivion, and to a lesser extent AC Shadows. Steam users are already preordering Stellar Blade more than buying Doom TDA. I also don't think Doom TDA will do well on PS5 given it's sandwiched between all the previously mentioned releases plus Forza and Indiana and they did little to nothing with the PS5 Pro version, and you've got Death Stranding 2 previewing extremely well on the horizon.

Split Fiction
KCD2
Expedition 33
Blue Prince
Monster Hunter Wilds

There are only 6 nominees for GOTY. All of the games above will easily get in over Dark Ages. If Dark Ages came out last year, it would have a chance to be nominated. Zero chance this year

Agreed. I think most Steam users are just either uninterested in this version of Doom, busy with other titles, or have it in the 'buy when it's on discount/deep sale' pile.

Im not a huge fan of the new Doom reboot, I played the original 2016 release and Eternal as well, but this one doesnt appeal to me at all, the look of the game, the parrying/blocking being a big focus on the game.

I would love to see a Doom 3 sequel, although Im sure this will never happen.

When i said GOTY contender i've meant MY Goty contender not the media one. I didn't make myself clear enough i guess.

They used RT for more than just graphics though, they used it for physics as well. I also disagree, as RT has been around for almost a decade.

You might have a point here.

Doom games are known to go on sale regularly and in a year or so will be $20 within 2 likely around $10.

Also it being a step back from Eternal hurt it imo, that's a big reason why so few of the people I know were interested in it.

We all know your real GOTY is coming:

But that's the beauty of the hobby- some stellar years become dogs and vice versa based off taste, mood, etc.

Zelda breath of the wild was all the rage when it hit and I thought it was dog water.

When in doubt : play animal well. Amazing game.
