Doom The Dark Ages Steam CCU peaked at 31,470

I have no opinion on it honestly. Some people like the amount of customization they provided, some don't. I couldn't careless TBH.
I don't care that these options exist. But i expect the pre sets to be what they are advertised.

Makes sense. Getting obsessed with numbers is such a waste of time

Yes obsession with numbers always existed but sales only. CCU doesn't represent that and its a waste of time

What a fucking garbage obsession.
People don't know sales numbers. It's meaningless to discuss something you don't know. CCU we know and is at least an indication of how a game is doing, You know a game hasn't sold well if it has 1000 CCU on launch day.

Dark Ages takes places after Doom Guy becomes The Doom Slayer.
Correct. This one is better but I don't think perfect...

It's metrics NPD/Sales Gaf now has to rummage through due to these companies being shady/dodgy with their numbers.

It's always been a thing for quite some time on here. Just more so now with a bit of waring ever since the Sony ports to the PC.
Gives you a really good idea of how much the game sold across all platforms. 100k CCU usually means over a million copies sold at launch.

Speaking of that, why the hell did companies stop sharing sales numbers? Even if there's a successful game, we absolutely get nothing anymore.

Low sales numbers can turn down investors, so saying a game 'reached 3 million players' is literally developers just hiding sales numbers and exagerating player engagement.

They do when they like the numbers lol. We still see that a lot, but only when it's convenient to them. When it isn't convenient they'll use other metrics like unique players and such.

There are roughly 40mil Gamepass subscribers. That means less than 1/10th downloaded the game. It's probably closer to 1/20th because a million or so gamers bought the game outright

I'm sure Doom The Dark Ages won't be a massive flop, but it is definitely not a big success

Please explain how it's exaggerating player engagement? It IS player engagement. Exaggerating would be if 300,000 players played it, and they said 3,000,000 players played it. Can you prove that?

Hiding sales figures I'll give you. But again, sales when a game is on Gamepass isn't the whole story. What you guys need is #sales and #gamepass, but I don't think you are ever gonna get that unfortunately.

Sales + Gamepass subscription INCREASE.

Increase is the word. This "engagement" means nothing if it doesnt move the needle and draw in more GP users.

Wrong. Maintaining subscribers is every bit as important!

That's why they put all their big games on the service - to entice people in and keep them there for a consistent income.

I'm playing doom 2016 and eternal plus dlc now after dark ages to make a conclusion about dark ages for myself.

I like the game but it is likely the only one I have 0 desire to replay again. 2016 has the highest replay value and is short enough to never overstay its welcome.

Dark ages is a sign to id that Hugo shouldn't be in charge. Marty knows more what he's doing IMO as a director.

I hope Marty does a 2016 remaster next since it's coming up on its 10 year anniversary or he spearheads a new Quake.

I'm a DOOM guy but this didn't grab me at all. DOOM is about a space marine killing demons in Hell. The reimagining of DOOM reminds me of what they did with Ninja Gaiden. It's different enough where it should have just been a new IP. I like the games but it's not something I can get excited over either. It's one of those games where I'll play it when I play it.
