Doom The Dark Ages Steam CCU peaked at 31,470

Unfortunately, Doom eternals heckin epic lore and plot where you kill bad guy god and the angels were like totally the bad guys the whole time (so deep dude) turned me off to nudoom.

I just can't muster excitement for this one.

I think the game looks great but the thing turning me off is a seeming emphasis on parrying. Parrying has implications and it's frankly played out. Stellar Blade tried to put the tiniest twist on it and give the parry startup frames but people freaked out saying the game had input lag. Nobody seemed to notice that all the other moves didn't have the lag lol.

The problem with parrying is that it tends to be the best solution for almost everything, but it's just timing one button press. You know what's more interesting that a single button press? Pretty much anything.

Before I get down off my soap box, I'm going to say that double jumping and invincible rolling are two more braindead mechanics that get thrown into every game without enough consideration. I can't tell you how refreshed I am when a game doesn't have a either of these.

I'm getting into the Doom lore recently and the Matyr are not angels but rather powerful aliens.

Davoth the Dark Lord also isn't the true creator as he didn't make the Wraiths among other things. Hugo also said there is a true god way above Father and Davoth in the past few interviews. So we should eventually see the true angels of doom or more on the originals of the Wraith.

Folk saying this isn't like Doom 😂 It's never felt MORE like Doom.

Grounded, large areas/rooms, loads of enemies, strafing projectiles.

Eternal was just too mental in comparison, having to continually jump up high and drop down, step through portals, and fling yourself to other sides of the map on launchers - headache inducing (I liked Eternal by the way).

Honestly, Doom Eternal just felt like a modernization of Quake 3 Arena if it got made into a single-player campaign. Literally flinging myself into the air in the arenas I was already going back to muscle memory of aiming rockets at their feet to blow them off the outdoor areas.

I played 30 minutes on game pass. I thought the change of pace was interesting at first, but then I put it down. Not sure if that's a bad sign. Maybe I'll just put it on easy and blast through it.

Only played for a bit over an hour, and it's so much easier on Nightmare compared to Eternal. Not sure why they would nerf the difficulty for those who want a sweaty fps.

Is that Doom 27.5?

Please try something new!
Are you asking for Doom to try something new or id to try a new IP?

Because this game does a bunch of new stuff and that's where the disconnect is for people playing it. People wanted either doom 2016 2.0 or doom eternal 2.0, but they got something completely different which was their intention from the jump.

As for a new IP didn't they try Rage and it's a giant wet turd? Like all of us here we just want a new quake game already.

You can crank the sliders to your liking to make things ever better.
I thought of doing this, but when i choose Nightmare, i kinda expect it to be that. We shouldn't need to modify anything. The way Nightmare is, is the way ID designed it to be, and it's simply not good enough this time around.

Doom Lore got dumb with Eternal. 2016 had some mystery to it. I liked it better when the Doom Marine was just a regular guy and they didn't lol Demigod powers. Cheapens it a bit especially since there is no backstory or build up to it.

It wouldn't be so bad if Doomguy and Doomslayer are separate entities but I believe they are the same. I think only Doom 3 Doom Marine is a separate guy.

But you have to understand for better or worse Doom is set up like the 90's comic or a Saturday Morning Cartoon show so despite the story wanting to be serious you aren't really supposed to take it as such. Lots of clashing elements at play.

Meanwhile I feel the Lore of Turok being based on it's comic series has been done more justice and makes sense in it's own universe. Of course that might change with Turok Origins.

Not that anyone cares about the Doom Cinematic Universe™ but the Doom Slayer of the reboot trilogy is the same one from DOOM 64, which is a different universe from the OG PC titles

So the universes are:

DOOM (1993), DOOM II, Final DOOM

DOOM 3, DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil

DOOM 64, Doom (2016), Doom Eternal, Doom: The Dark Ages

Cool. Did not know this. Eye opener.

Nah, Doom 64 takes place after Doom 2. They're aren't separate universes from all the stuff I've seen.

But Dragons!

And Mechs?! :messenger_crying:

Apparently The Dark Ages fits between DOOM 64 and DOOM 2016.

But all of the visuals in the image involve THE DOOM marine/guy/slayer.

They said multiple times that DOOM 3 was an influence and they like to touch on it, but they like to consider that character in DOOM 3 as a completely different marine. Maybe in a completely different universe/timeline.

The price and value doesnt align. For its price, just to be a ~20hrs experience without much replayability is too high an asking point. If it included some form of horde mode or multiplayer, I would jump on day 1. It does look great though.

Where's Doom 3 and Final Doom/The Plutonia Experiment, etc.?

After watching this I don't think it will be a priority even on sale.

Gotta admit, this definitely cooled my hype quite a bit. Especially coming off of E33, this parry system by comparison seems like a joke. The traversal and the many "secrets" are all just telegraphed with GIANT glowing icons and leaves basically no sense of discovery.

It really does feel like they take their player base as idiots or they are just trying to appeal to everyone too much so that anyone with a pulse can play it.

I was planning to get it eventually when it hit around $50 but I'm willing to wait now for around $30. Still want to play it, but now it's firmly in the "i'll get around to it some day" category. Can't believe they're actually charging $70 for this.

What i don't get it how he does not mention the God fucking awful first level, I watched my cousin play it in gamepass thursday (which cemented me in not buying the game)

It is one of the literal worst tutorials in modern gaming. They bombard you with text boxes and stick you in a corridor and force you to do "the mechanic" or your not allowed to progress. You know that bit in 2016 where you come out the monitor room and are given a zombie to execute, imagine that with 3-5 page pop up boxes every 10 seconds for 10 minutes strait. Its fucking awful.

Not giving the Doom Guy a lame millennial retcon story for one. And not feeling like a DLC.

2016 felt more like a classic Doom.
Eternal forces u to use different weapons coz of lack of amo, when in doom 2016 u could for the most part use ur fav one, not the ones u barely tolerate coz they are part of the game.

Explain. Last I knew, they said every Doom is part of it.

The lore is detailed in Doom Eternal and based on the events there is no Doom 3 events. You can read them ingame but also here https://doom.fandom.com/wiki/Doom_Eternal#Codex_Entries

I actually enjoyed reading all of it when I played Eternal. You can ctrl-f Slayer for the ones related to Doom Guy and how he was "created" which relates to Dark Ages(havent played it yet) and his awakening in Doom 2016 as well as the og's. All I can think of is perhaps he travelled do a different universe, as Doom 3 has a different lore than these new ones about angels vs demons.

Yeah I got no patience for excessive tutorial shit like that.

Probably all the people who liked 2016 saw all the changes in Eternal and the lack of Multiplayer and decided to not come back for TDA

No amount of Raytracing, 70 dollar price point or Game Pass arguments will change the fact that it's just not doing as well as the first two games

What I've seen and played is painfully average. Still fun, but doesn't up the ante like 2016 and Eternal did.

In fact, I've been wanting to replay Eternal for a while.

i dunno, i loved 2016, hated Eternal and i've been having a damn good time with Dark Ages so far - I believe it strikes a good balance between the 2

Parry parry shoot shoot.
Parry parry shoot shoot.
Parry parry shoot shoot.
Parry parry shoot shoot.
Parry parry shoot shoot.
Parry parry shoot shoot.

Flying bullet-hell mini game.

Parry parry shoot shoot.
Parry parry shoot shoot.
Parry parry shoot shoot.
Parry parry shoot shoot.
Parry parry shoot shoot.
Parry parry shoot shoot.

From what I've played it's more:

Move, move, move, move, shoot like fuxk, throw shield, move, move, move, infact just constantly move.

Throw shield, shot, shoot, Shield bash, melee etc etc

Game seems awesome to me. Not looking forward to the dragon bits though they look shite.

Numbers are numbers to a lot of studios. Steam doesn't equate everything.

Can someone please explain to me what is this new CCU obsession is all about?
No clue, but it's obnoxious. Suddenly everyone is an armchair sales analytics person. I just think it's because people have an obsession with stuff failing, or they want to see things they don't like fail. I don't know, it makes no sense to me, lmao. Feels like a bunch of wasted time and energy.

Obsession with numbers always existed. Be it sales or otherwise. CCU is the only objectively true metric we have access to so that's what is discussed. If we knew sales numbers, people would be discussing that. Just like spotify numbers are a metric people use when discussing music, it's the number we can know.

Not my job. If you give me pre set difficulties, i expect hard to be hard. Otherwise get rid of the pre sets if i have to do it myself anyway.
I have no opinion on it honestly. Some people like the amount of customization they provided, some don't. I couldn't careless TBH.

Makes sense. Getting obsessed with numbers is such a waste of time

Yes obsession with numbers always existed but sales only. CCU doesn't represent that and its a waste of time

What a fucking garbage obsession.

It's metrics NPD/Sales Gaf now has to rummage through due to these companies being shady/dodgy with their numbers.

It's always been a thing for quite some time on here. Just more so now with a bit of waring ever since the Sony ports to the PC.
