Dragon Age: Inquisition |OT2| Leave the damn Hinterlands!

Ok guys, for my next playthrough I'd like to play the most evil character possible.

What class, race and specialist do you recommend?

It feels hard to be evil in this game.

Hell, I don't even remember blood magic being presented as an option for the player. Usually they love to shove that shit in your face.

The closest to "evil" would probably play it from the point of view of that the only reason you are doing this is for Personal Power.

Word. You can't really be evil in Inquisition. In DAO you could let Connor get possessed, kill all the Dalish, execute Alistair, etc. And of course you can be a blood mage in both DAO and DA2.

I'm trying to think of what evil stuff you can do in DA2 (besides being a blood mage that dates Fenris which makes absolutely no sense but okay).

Sell Fenris back into slavery. Help Petrice instigate against the Qunari.

Also pretty much every decision that favors mages over templars tends to be pretty shady, like killing Thrask for Grace just because or sparing the clearly evil Idunna.

Yeah, I feel instead of a choice between being good / evil (or Paragon / Renegade), for DA:I it's more of a choice between believer / atheist / agnostic / pragmatist or something like that. Or you can give a polite, neutral, or harsh response.

Maybe the lack of an "evil" route has to do with your role in the plot and how people worship / venerate you, but it might have been cool to see an Inquisitor who went the power-hungry route and did terrible things in Andraste's name under the Inquisition banner (since that theme is explored a lot for the Chantry and Templars, etc.)

I feel ashamed of how I handled war table missions. I didn't realize BioWare put actual thought into how you chose to resolve them and just always picked the quickest completion time. I'd get shitty results at times and just be like "welp that's how it goes" not realizing you need to read the situation.

Well, that's what second playthroughs are for!

It's kinda disappointing that unlocking a specialisation is a regular, boring ol' fetch quest :/ I want to be a Reaver but don't really know where to get the writings (the journal mentions a companion or Val Royeaux, but Iron Bull has nothing and I can't find it in Val Royeaux) or Rashvine :/

It's always beside or near the corresponding companion they don't actually have it themselves. If it's not there you may have picked it up earlier and not realized it, try crafting the requisition item and see if it lets you. As for Rashvine there's a ton of it in certain zones but I forget which. I also think an NPC sells it either in VR or Skyhold.

Honestly is the Dragon Age Asunder novel any good?
Or just your standard fluff piece?

I have to admit I'm pretty knee deep in the game world right now and if it's well written, I'm tempted to pick it up.

I haven't read a game novelization in like ten years... Some Resident Evil book haha.

It's waaay better than the Resident Evil books.

I find Asunder and Masked Empire to both be good, at the very least enjoyable in their own right, as well as very relevant to Inquisition. They aren't great fantasy literature but for EU books they are some of the best I've read.

This game looks and sounds too fucking good.

I'm trying to play but just end up stopping and staring at everything and listening to the music

Also, I'm in love with Cassandra. It was love at first sight.
I'm a mage and sided with mages on most things, but to hell with these freaks of nature!

Honestly it wasn't till I got Cole in-game did I even know it existed.
The book is canon for Inquisition?

I enjoyed Asunder but I thought Masked Empire was a lot better.

Most the original characters in Asunder didn't make much impact on me but I thought the book livened up considerably once (DA:O characters)
Wynne and Shale showed up.

Masked Empire. on the other hand, has a lot of great new characters that I wouldn't mind seeing show up as full fledged companions in future games. In fact I much more enjoyed the Masked Empire versions of Celene and Gaspard compared to their portrayal in DA:I.

Honestly it wasn't till I got Cole in-game did I even know it existed.

Yes it's canon. However if you've already talked to Cole a bit he essentially spoils a lot of the key points of the novel.

57ish hours in. Storywise I just finished the into the abyss quest. Romancing Cassandra now after breaking it off with Josephine.

Really taking my time and trying to explore, talk to everyone, read most things etc. best game I've played in while.

That....banter while exploring. Since I'm romancing Cassandra:

Iron Bull: "There you go again Seeker, another facefull of Inquisi-butt"
Cassandra: "I don't know what you're talking about"
Iron Bull: "Just remember to undress him with your eyes first...respectfully"

Me: "Respectfully? No need for that"
Iron Bull: "Well then...go wild you two"
Cassandra: "Ugh..."

So good.

So I am only 10 hours in after finally being able to play without performance issues and without any issues with the banter bug on ps4 after the latest patch and this game just keeps getting better. So I
chose to recruit the mages instead of the Templars and went on the quest where you go forward in time.
Wow so good! Such an amazing quest.

So at what point should I leave the Hinterlands? I just got there, heading towards my first quest

Is there a point after which I should leave? certain quest or anything?

If you're level 8 and still there you've been there too long.

Cassandra: Varric, what happened between you and Bianca?
Varric: Why Seeker, we're close enough to share our love lives now? Don't worry, Boss, I'll tell you everything she says about you.
Cassandra: F-forget I said anything...

Not gonna transcribe what Sera says...

I'm level 4 and went to do the horse master quest first before doing anything else... fought a lot of enemies on the way that wrecked me and had to drink all my health potions, so I headed back to that town looking to where I can get more of these potions, went back to Haven after not finding anywhere to get them

Got my health potions refilled now, guess that happens automatically when you travel there

I'm gonna go do that rift quest first now :)

Whoa, what? Damn, can you actually get better outcomes? Crap. I blew through a LOT of War Table missions without knowing that. I guess that means I could've saved
my Inquisitor's Dalish clan.

Not sure about that specific mission but, yes, mission outcomes often depend on who you choose. Sometimes it can just affect the reward but other times you may lose out on future questlines if you don't make the correct decision on which adviser to assign.

Funny thing is, I picked up the Prima guide, and it recommends that the fastest one is usually the best, which is strange... it seems like it would make a certain kind of sense that the option that took longer would yield better results. So I made the same mistakes you did. The guide does include the rewards for each choice, but I don't use the guide on that kind of micro level.

One of the main reasons I got the guide was for the art and behind the scenes stuff, but I must say it was a big letdown compared to some of the other guides I've picked up. Really dull interviews with Broward and almost no bonus content... thing even has ads for other Dragon Age products jammed in there... like the Inquisitor's Edition of the game that has been sold out for ages. Oh well...

All of the Dragon Age books have pretty well done. The first two especially (the stolen throne and the Calling) as they can be read with zero knowledge of the game. All they add is flavor to the lore without needing any coming into them. The Masked Empire isnt quite as good if only because they couldn't really resolve the story, as the storyline plays out in DA:I. but thats not much of a con if you played the game and can appreciate the added background. Might make switch sides in the in game quest

Anyone else having issues with Focus, specifically it magically removing 1-2 levels of an ability that has 3 levels stocked where it's set to OFF for all of your group? I was slowing trying to raise my main character and Dorian's focus to 3 (it was at 1), while Blackwall and Sera both had 3 levels. I go to fight a dragon and Sera is magically back to level 1.

I finished this last night. The game overdoes filler quests to a ridiculous degree and there isn't really enough to the main storyline stuff for my liking, but it was definitely enjoyable to play and I feel like I got my money's worth, so can't complain too much.

lol Multiplayer is kinda fun but hard...the quick match doesnt care and can just put you with 3 other archers if it chooses and so far,I tried about 6 matches and we all failed, either at the last section or the one before...and no one talks, like always on the PS4 lol...oh well back to the single player.

Main problem is people rush everything to make points. No one ever retreats. They just spam attacks and focus on the enemy most close to die to get the kill. Of course everyone gets wiped. Last time I played people weren't even picking up the gold.
Recruit is a cakewalk if you have a keeper constantly spamming barriers and dispelling buffs (on enemies) and debuffs (on teammates).

I've had this happen before and I have no clue what causes it. It happened with my inquisitor once, so it's not limited to AI party members. Are there actions in the game that is focus besides abilities? Or any attacks that drain your focus?

Yes you can save your clan, depending who you pick. Reading about that in particular is what made me stop and go, "Wait, what?" Sadly I was already at the end of the game.

People are hating on Necromancer mage spec? Hmm. I get Knight Enchanters are godlike and Rift mages are fun (I've got Solas as a Rift Mage), but Necromancers have some fun tricks up their sleeves to and work really well when paired with a Rift mage. Walking Bomb is decent DoT and its chain explosion works wonders for rifts and grouped up enemies (suck them in with that Pull of the Abyss, walking bomb, KABOOM!).

Also, you haven't seen beauty until you Spirit Marked a giant and take it into a fight against a High Dragon. Remember that giant vs dragon fight in the Storm Coast? Yeah. I actually did that in the Emerald Graves. There are two giants close to the High Dragon there. I attacked one, tamed it, and it joined in the fight against that dragon. So good. Haste + Firestorm + Giant made short work of that dragon, heh.
