Dragon Age Veilguard voice actor blames fans for game's failure, calls them "really bad people"

Just shut up and consume you fucking chud bigot!

While it's no surprise that Dragon Age: The Veilguard didn't meet EA's expectations in terms of sales, one voice actor from the game – Alix Wilton Regan – believes that the failure of the game can be blamed on some people who may have wanted to see the game fail. Speaking to IGN, Wilton Regan mentioned that she felt "devastated" for Dragon Age developer BioWare.

"I feel absolutely devastated for BioWare as a studio that they got such mixed reactions to the game," Wilton Regan said of the response to The Veilguard. "I personally thought it was a really strong game. I thought it was just BioWare being more BioWare."

"I also think a lot of people kind of wanted to see it fail, or wanted to see [BioWare] fail, either because they're just really bad people on the internet — of which there are unfortunately many, as we have discovered."

Eh, in the other side of the road, we have this https://www.gamesradar.com/games/dr...-so-you-didnt-have-to-try-and-appeal-to-them/

Dragon Age maestro says EA always spoke about a hypothetical 'nerd cave' full of diehard RPG fans who would "always show up," so you "didn't have to try and appeal to them"

A Dragon Age veteran says EA liked to refer to a "cave" where RPG fans who could be trusted to buy anything the genre threw at them would dwell.

Speaking to GamesRadar+, BioWare veteran David Gaider explained that before he left BioWare, his tastes had become somewhat "old-fashioned" in EA's eyes. "I was very vocal on the Dragon Age team," he says. "I was always trying to push it to our traditional mechanics. And that wasn't very welcome in the EA sphere."

He says that EA considered those mechanics - the kind that shaped games like Dragon Age: Origins - to be "slow and cumbersome," rather than the "action-y and slick" presentation that the studio was being pushed toward. That meant that Gaider's views "were often not very welcome" despite his long tenure at the studio and work on many of its most famous RPGs.

Cool, he is entitled to his opinion. Vast majority of gamers disagreed. Listen, I get EA - they made a bet that the new audience will more than compensate for the loss of core fans.

How can people "make a game fail"? Why didn't the fans show up? Did these really bad people physically keep people from buying the game?

These are the stupidest arguments ever re: movies, games, etc. If you had FANS, this wouldn't have happened. It's clear you DON'T.

Water is wet. Fans buy the game, if youre game didnt sell enough, it was obviously because of fans. just like when a game succeeds, it's because of fans. What the hell is even this statement.

If you want a tip though, do this for your next game. Appeal to the fans because your games success depends entirely on them buying your game.

Right, the whole mainstream gaming media handled this turd with kid gloves and pretended it was some glorious "return to form" for BioWare. But some vocal minority of internet whiners managed to tank the sales.

We did it, fellow CHUDs!!! 🙌

Yeah. I guess we are nerd bros. now. Some weird hybrid between a nerd and bullies that beat up nerds in high school.

What the real problem is that they had to ham fist a sexuality that is not that popular into the game and act like everyone was supposed to be onboard with it.

Watch the whole interview its very endearing.
The clickbait headlines are making her come off completely different to what she was saying.
The interviewer asks her about the games reception and she was wondering how people were judging the game before it came out, she thought it was Bioware being Bioware, people who disagree are entitled to that opinion and doesnt seem like she plays all that many games actually so she probably doesnt get why DragonAge fans didnt like DA:VG.
But then again Veilguard wasnt the worst game that came out that year, but was far from the best......do i think it deserved the internet hate it got.....nah we were too harsh on it.

Ive been telling myself ill find time to actually give the game a go.....but said time has never shown up.

I watched the interview before seeing the headlines, when I read the headlines I was like damn....its been spun and theres no going back now

What a shitty, clickbait title you decided to go with.

In your own OP it's clear that they're calling out specific individuals that just wanted to see the game fail or wanted to see Bioware fail.

Not just "fans" as you said.

That rpg cave is fucking spot on. These assholes don't even try anymore.

The reality is that maybe 300 million people worldwide play non mobile games. These executives need to wake up. EA is putting out less games but the competition is sky high.

Bioware has been a joke and in decline for awhile and everyone paying attention knows this. Anthem? ME Andromeda? Then you come with this wild swing on dragon age.

Rpg fans can be super discerning and they're usually big video game fans who spend money. EA is fumbling along. There's not a lot of innovation in a lot of EAs studios.

Just another pathetic way to accuse accountability. If they can't see the difference in quality, I wouldn't want them working on another. Normie casual audience didn't show up either, because the game is bad.

Only the super fans showed up in the first few days to give it a chance, and many of them came out saying it was a step-down to straight up bad.

Even people who hate the chuds tried to speak around the game being bad, because liking or disliking something needs to be part of your group identity now.

They hired a director whose previous experience was working on the Sims to do their dark fantasy RPG...they deserve the failure.

Looking at her work on wiki, Alix Regan does a ton of video game voice work. And a staple are Dragon Age games. Looks like she's in all of them doing various characters.

No surprise she doesn't like it. The more DA fails, the less work she gets. If the DA franchise disappears, so does one her sources of pay stubs.

Looking at it from a different perspective, being called bad people from some individuals might just mean you're on the right path.

"Nerd cave"

EA is such a fucking whack out of touch company its unbelievable. "They'll eat up whatever we'll serve them anyway. They can't help themselves. We got them pinned down." They've rotted away whatever loyal RPG fans, good will and talent they've had over the years.

They're in an even worse position now, since they're beginning to face some stiff competition from solo developers and small/medium sized up and coming studios. They pretty much fucked themselves over.

There is still the next mass effect to ruin, she is gonna be fine.

Oh yeah it's about fans being "bad people" but not the game being utter garbage. Sure, cunt.

We also felt "devastated" by the garbage we had to play as fans

I'm so tired of these insane, petulant, obnoxious, narcisist adult-children insulting people that don't buy their trash.
American gaming industry is fucking mental.

Yay, a privately educated London actress telling the ordinary plebs that they're 'really bad people' for not getting behind the latest corporate cash-in. That these people consider themselves 'the good guys' rather than modern-day Marie Antoinettes is laughable.

The cope surrounding this game seems to be never ending. "Really bad people on the internet" didn't make the visuals, story, characters, battle system, etc. fail to resonate with fans or potential new fans. That was all on Bioware and EA and it still remains to be seen if they've learned anything from this.

Asmon's response to this yesterday was epic. "And I was one of those bad people. We killed Bioware and we'll do it again. And we'll keep doing it until we get rid of you all". Paraphrasing heavily here 🙂

That's stupid.

Someone could only be either interested in your game or not. The answer is there is simply not many people interested in your game and that's your problem not the consumer's.

Skill issue.

If his comment was true, Fortnite would have been a failure with the amount of hate I've poured into that game.

Never trust politicians, celebs, athletes or even all those stock market analysts on Bloomberg TV.

It's always a grift for votes, views, self promotion, selling shit or keeping job. They'll say anything on social media for a vote or dollar.

For those of you who dont watch them, if you really want to see the biggest hustlers watch any business show. All these blowhard analysts or investment company reps plug all these stocks as a buy. Of course. They own them. They'll never say avoid it. Then you check the stock yourself and 1 yr/5 yr/10 yr chart and it's ass.

Or some guy plugs his dividend/trust stock that pays a 6% dividend. Sounds good right? Ya sure buddy, the stock is down 40% the past 5 years and still trending down.

So why even open your mouth then?

Cuz shes a voice actor and they were asking her about games she has been in.
Inquisition is one of her favorite roles so they then asked her about the mixed reception Veilguard got?

If you worked on an IP and it was one of your favorite jobs, but the latest entry in that IP with or without your input wasnt as well received its not an illogical question to ask what you think about the receptions.
And it having been such a light hearted interview you would answer NOT thinking its going to be headlines on GAF.

She thinks the reception prior to release was already outta whack even if people hadnt played the game yet.....its NOT exactly a dumb opinion even if it came from someone who is more in tune with gaming, someone less so its totally valid.

Bioware had their DEI wonderland and is baffled that the rest of the world was not ok with their views. They really needed an accountant to give them a reality check.
