Dragon Quest 7: Fragments of the Forgotten Past |OT| Roman numerals are hard

Finally finished Alltrades.

I'd really love to sit down with the designers and find out who thought it was a good idea to not add the job part of the game until 20 hours in, and make the questline to get them so goddamn annoying and long.

I don't see the problem.

1- the quest is awesome and a highlight of the game.
2- the temple is unlocked proportionally as far into the game as its always is.

Lucked out today and received a tablet via internet sharing that had lips and heal slimes in it. Got enough of both of their hearts for everyone.

I've always thought they come way too late, and I don't like the quest at all. I honestly think the game is weaker, especially in pacing, because of how long it takes to get to this point.

I just got a new side kick but he's pretty weak, what's a good place to grind about 30 hours in?

Also, any tip on how to find the tablet in the grand mage present day place? I see one glowing but no idea where, also what is the requirement for the one king maximo has?

Im planning to go fight Draco the 5th so I need to power up a bit since he rocked my world :(

After all the complaints about the Alltrades quest I guess I was expecting something way worse, but that ended up being my favorite story arc so far. Just finished it.

I finished this game yesterday. It was exactly the type of game that I needed in my life and despite some flaws I loved every single hour that I spent playing it, even when it seemed like it wanted to make me "suffer". It also made me get very involved in the little stories that unfolded while playing unlike in DQ6. Maybe I collect my thoughts later and expose them better but I had to say that Dragon Quest 7 was definitely an amazing experience that I would recommend to everyone.

Out of curiosity, how long did it take you to complete?

I'm stuck.

Late game. Buckannham.

I have to play as Mervyn. Not sure what to do. Where is the king ? How to get flame ?

Just got to
Greenthumb Gardens present
, and the towns gone?! Are they not even going ot explain what happened here? Any reason to go back to the cave?

Just did this last night.

King's in the Dwarven Cave. You must get permission from him to go into that big annoying ass tower again, and climb all the way to the fucking top yet again to get the fire. It is pretty annoying. Especially since they keep changing your main party's line up and inventory for you for no reason.

Head on over to the town next to the mountain on the screen East of there. No need to revisit cave, one of the few non-refilling/non-changing areas between the Past and the Present.

So is there anyway for me to get to the areas surrounded by mountains near Wetlock now or do I need to progress the story before I can get there?

Gracos V was much easier than his great great grandfather.

You might already have the item you need, if you've already done all the Islands, try taking a
certain flying stone and Mervyn to a Temple with lily pads.

Thanks.

Everytime I don't find a solution it's because I found it but refused to believe it would be that tedious.

I'll never learn.

Kinda forcing myself to finish this at this point. I enjoyed most of it but yeah it has been dragging now.

Is the sea turtle who is in the past sunken citadel avaliable anywhere else? I didnt get the heart drop while down there and looks like there is no way to get back into the past version after completing it.

There might be more in a tablet you get later or in a tablet you can generate.

No idea though.

So I just beat draco V and be gave me a tablet I can't even use, the only 2 hints I have are to find one in the grand conjuratorium and king maximi in exchange for something. I don't even know if these would be enough to net be a new area, any help?

Playing through this for the first time is making me actually excited to play Dragon Quest VIII again

I ended dropping that game 60% of the way through because I found it repetitive, but since then I've developed a greater appreciation of the series so maybe I will be able to beat it next time.

As someone who has been less than pleased bt how the franchise has been localized in recent games (when theyre avtually brought over)I'm actually pleased by their work. Better than Plus Alpha's work. About even with 8-4s work on 6.

Fella, that sounds like Stockholm Syndrome to me.

Yeah, I have mixed feelings about Alltrades. I really enjoyed the story arc but it was by far the most difficult part of the game to that point.

It probably didn't help that I didn't have AI set for my companions; apparently the AI in this game is quite good. But still, woe betide you if you run into a lot of Forky Pigs in the second dungeon of that area, because those guys fucking suck if they insist on using the cold breath attack (they sure did for me, and those assholes often come in groups of four).

I was also somewhat underleveled (my characters started at about level 14 and ended at 16 by the end of the section), deliberately so to avoid hitting the job caps in other areas. But yeah, if you haven't gotten to past Alltrades yet, pray that the RNG is on your side
and know that the first two bosses you run into are unbeatable
.

That's a late game thing, don't worry about that at all for now.

Was wondering if those YES or NO dialiogues have any consequences ? Most of the time you can just restart the dialogue for a different answer, but there might be key dialogue moments when you can just answer once ? I remember one in the beginning
after you retrieve an item and you're supposed to regroup with the prince before going to that temple, but you can go on your own and both the prince and Maribel show up and are mad and stuff
?

PS : after 5 hours in and wondering where the hell can I see XP to the next level, just found out about divination at the priest... Ok.

Is revisiting
Greenthumb Gardens
completely optional? I didn't get a fragment yet, but also don't find a way to advance the story further.
The poisoner has been exposed and expelled and the good guy has visited the grave of the love of his life. Sorry, I don't know the English names. :/

Any tips? I use snooze, but sometimes I just can't get it to work and I don't want to end up wasting all my MP
which I almost did one time with just the second challenger orz.

Man. I really wish I saw the casino tip before I got here. Doesn't help I've been cheap on the gear.

Well the only hints I have involve a stone tablet that is in the modern magical academy area and that's vacant of hints, so I've been stuck all day. Might have to put this game aside until a guide pops up, but when I stop jrpgs I usually don't return lol.

Oh lol ,I just beat him, and I have Providence, Nottagen & Hubble open to me unexplored, so maybe you're further on than me, I don't know anything about an academy yet haha sorry!

If you are referring to the jawtoise, their heart is a prize in lucky panel in the Alltrades island casino in the present.

I mostly used Bang from Maribel and Gabo's group-hitting 0 mp ability (I forget the name).

Fell off this game pretty hard. I love a lot of games in this series, but I've never been able to get into 7. I lasted longer this time, but I haven't had any drive to go back to it for a few days now.

I'm getting punished hard by the boss encounter... My party is now level 18-18-17 and is wiped out really easily once I have the special status inflicted on me.
The cow monster spews sand/gas everytime at the beginning, and after that the tiger hits hard while my party hits air.
The other character doesn't seem to do much to help.

The game was a walk in the park until then, but after 3 tries and 3 wipes I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong. I bought all the best equipment available in the town except the sleeping rod, should I farm gold and buy it ?

alltrades is def too late into the game

should have been immediately after ruff but I think the problem is

they wanted to gate it AFTER kiefer leaves, so you don't waste leveling him up in professions, and they also want you to feel attached to kiefer so he can't leave too early either

Just keep trying. Im up to 50 hours and that's been the worst fight in the game hands down. Eventually the RNG in terms of when he does the sand attack and when it sticks will go in your favour and you win.

Took a break from the game for a couple of days. I'm at Alltrades now, but at the beginning after losing a chunk of progress in the cave. Ruff died probably like 60% in and I didn't want to walk all the way back out to revive him (and didn't want to have him miss a ton of exp) so I just quit.

Whoever had the bright idea to stuff that place full of scorpions who randomly (and by "randomly" I mean all the time) decide to hit party members for 40-50 HP in a single attack in a chapter where your only source of renewable healing heals for like 20 HP and only during battle is a fucking dick.

Yeah, I like the story of this arc, but I'm having Flashbacks of when I definitively quit FF VII because that fucking ninja stole all my stuff and I was stuck in the middle of nowhere, under-leveled with monsters killing me every time.
PS1 memory cards being expensive, I had only one save and I was fucked. The console died shortly after and I sold all my games in a rage to buy a N64

Lol what is with Dragon Quest and all the enemies doing the "**** YOU! I'm taking you all with me!" trope before they die? You would think the heroes would learn to just quickly finish them after the battle but NOPE!

Thank god. This game is kind of grim with some of the resolutions you have to swallow haha, and I thought it was going to hit a real all time low with
Providence
but thankfully we were spared.

Can anyone who has finished the game tell me roughly how much I have left? I'm at the part where
I'm playing as Mervyn solo and have to go back to the lighthouse yet again.
The constant backtracking is really getting annoying, at this point.

You're pretty close.

Seems like you must have really shitty gear. Those scorpions were hitting for 1 damage most of the time for me.

Max out Sailor forst
Lightning is op esp. When it costs 0 mp
Max out pirate then max put all other classes by lightning thru all the battles

I already have Lightning haha. My main char is a Pirate now. It's so good.

I classed the m.c. as Sailor first, just thought it made sense!

I finally got my prism peacock heart after stupidly letting one slip through my hands while I was playing after just waking up. Took two hours of lucky panel grinding, but I got some other kick ass hearts in the process. Gabo's gonna be breathing death on my enemies soon enough.

I will be getting this game pretty soon but I have a quick question maybe you guys can help. I really only have time for one game right now. Should I start Bravely Second or this first?

Past the 60 hour play time mark. My previous save slot from right before entering Alltrades Abbey in the past is 15 hours.

The events of Alltrades took me about 3 hours. I spent about 5-6 hours at the present casino playing lucky panel. Add another 3 hours exploring present changes, gathering hearts, and doing other extra things. That means I have spent about 33 hours mastering various job classes. Time sure flies. Does time continue to pass in sleep mode? That might have added a few hours to my playtime post Alltrades.
