Dragon Quest 7: Fragments of the Forgotten Past |OT| Roman numerals are hard

After Alltrades Abbey
do I need to go all the way back through the dungeon to get the fragment in that other city where everyone was imprisoned?

So I went and spoiled myself on
Maribel leaving, and she's my main caster.

Should I get someone else a Sage or is that just a short term thing?

No,
you can access the place through the world map when you're leaving Alltrades Abbey. Though I did go through the dungeon and noticed how stupid I was later.

Maribel was my main caster too and I'm doing fine with a full physical offensive party. Hero and Mervyn (Armamentalist) have mastered the Priest class and they also get healing spells. I've never run out of MP too and nothing since Maribel left the party has been a challenge for me except one ocasional boss.

I don't know if she joins the party again, though.

lol, same.

Got into the
town the clock-tower.
I remember getting stuck for days at the boss here, let's see how I'll fare now.

No need. Just get some others with priest, which you need for Paladin anyway. Paladin and Champion both have multiheal and kazing, too.

Also
she does return if you want Sage/Druid for end game.

I've been stuck with 3 characters for about 3 islands now since
Kiefer left to play guardian
, I'm guessing more permanent characters do join eventually? It's making it annoying deciding what jobs to level up

Yes, but it's three characters quite a while.

Well, so much for being finished job grinding. Got a Lvl 255 tablet with Walking Corpses. With their hearts I have 5 more monster classes I can master.

Just a short term thing
. I also had Maribel as my Sage. Had Hero as Gladiator, Gabo as Monster Masher and Mervyn as Paladin and I was fine. There was only 1 boss that gave me a hard time during that period (cumulus vex).

Yes.

Monday I beat malign vine. It was late so I closed my 3ds.

I brough my 3ds to work. My keys wedged open my 3ds at some point and I lost an hour of progress

Beat the game last night (73 hours), one question:

Why is it called Dragon Quest? I only encountered dragons as regular humdrum enemies about 40 hours in, and... that's... pretty much it...

DQ1: A giant green dragon was the first big mid-boss, and the big bad guy was the Dragonlord, a wizard who turns into a dragon.

The other games usually involve dragons in some form, but it's never the focus. DQ4-6 are most prominent as it's the Zenithian trilogy, which is basically heaven ruled by a dragon.

It makes more sense than every Final Fantasy after FF1.

As above said, it's a hold over from dq1. The game has been "Demon king quest" since dq3. Dragons usually pay a fairly big role in each game none the less. Except this one.

DQVIII also has that heaven like place ruled by dragons, but iirc that's all EG. Main story is goddess and demon king stuff.

DQXI is supposed to go back to DQI-III stuff right? So maybe a Dragon Lord.

Hmmm, just beat Gracos,

Back in the tower, top floor, I see the radar flashing indicating theres a fragment there, but I can't seem to find it or am I blind? I already talked a bunch of times to old man riffer and he keeps repeating the same thing about being old.

Setting in spoiler tag so people don't associate gracos with old man riffer, heh.

How can I get that fragment? Should I return later?

Thanks

Leave the tower.

I had the same question.
Go back down to the portal on the first floor to leave to trigger the next event

I see, thanks

Ouch Orgodemir just stomped me out. I was rocking a not great party setup but it was still a surprise because this is the first difficult fight I've had since Alltrades.

Gonna do some tablets and master some vocations and go back.

I think I'm finished now? I just cleared
the second postgame dungeon, and got The Almighty living in my town (weird!).
Is that it for postgame stuff, not including tablet stuff? Is there anything I might have missed?

All in all, great game. Overjoyed that I finally got to play it. One of my favourite Dragon Quest games for sure. Now I need to go back and finally clear VI.

On the world map, outside of Grondal, all kinds of slimes spawn. Including King Metal.
I sent a King Metal, a Liquid Metal and a Gem Slime off to find a tablet, then used that to level my team to 70ish for the postgame dungeons. Overkill probably, but it worked.

Thank you. I managed to get the king metal slime to join me on the first fight. Lucky!

Maturity, bitches.
So I beat the island with
the flying people
and when returning to said island in the present theres a locked gate (similar to the one found in Estard)
with a warp behind it at the top of the sanctum
. Should I have found the key to open these types of doors already or, much like with locked chests, I'll have to come back later with it?

Oh, and speaking of locked chests. After beating Gracos (I'm assuming his name is OK since it was just mentioned)
you can go back in the present to his lair and beat his decedent. There are two chests next to his clourswap. After sparing him he opened one, but the other is locked. Magic key doesn't work on it.
Is there a stronger key?

I think so because there's still a bunch of locked stuff for me too.

1) You will go through that gate later in the story, don't worry, you won't miss it, it's mandatory.

2) You can optionally go back for that chest at the end of the game.

What are those extra doors in the ruins? Two of them have unlocked but one just takes me to burnmount and the other to a dead end bit of beach...

I'm thinking I remember in the original you had to use them whenever you completed a tablet?

They're shortcuts that are mandatory during a certain section later in the game. Not super useful otherwise.

I have had multiple fights with trash mobs where i get DAZZLED and then my party almost wipes because they can't hit anything. Is there any way to heal or prevent this? I'm in the desert dungeon right now lvls 18-19. Any items I can stock up on or anything? I haven't seen anything that allows me to block or negate this effect and it's incredibly frustrating.

Switch to magic or focus down the monsters that dazzle.

^I have Paladin Ruff literally oneshotting every trash encounter with the "Hit all enemies" Tornado abilities (Can't recall the name). 0 MP for over 100 Damage. <_>

While it doesn't prevent it, if you have someone who went through/is currently in the warrior class they can use focus strength to make their next hit have 100% accuracy. Or since this skill only takes like 5 battles to learn, you can go ahead and have everyone spend 5 battles in the warrior class to grab it if it annoys you that much. It makes a good combo with Knuckle Sandwich against enemies Knuckle Sandwich works on(and later it can be combined with Oomph for even more damage)

Okay, so how do you know how difficult a traveller's tablet dungeon is going to be before getting slaughtered in the first fight? Also, I can't quite figure what the point of them is. I got three new ones from the download bar and they have a level on them, so I tried one that had level 1 on it thinking it was easy and it had some pretty difficult monsters for my level (bonebarons and whatnot).

I'm not very far into the game, only at
present day Faraday Castle.

I haven't had any difficult time with the game until now. Orgodemir keeps wiping my party out. I'm going to exit the dungeon and upgrade classes and buy better equipment. I hope the last portion of the game is not very difficult.

Yeah, there's nothing in-game to give you an accurate read of what challenge you're facing. The only thing to go by is this (outdated) list on the main website:
http://dragonquest7.nintendo.com/expand/

They're there for you to fight and recruit "special" monsters not found anywhere else in the game. Also, the DLC tablets have no level cap limit, so you can use them to grind out job EXP, if you wish.

I barely made it through that fight. I was literally one round away from a total party wipe out and I got him with a Gigaslash.

I'd recommend hitting up the casino, I got a ton of cash and equipment by doing the pairs game(and cheating!).

I have enough fragments to go to both
Providence
and
Nottagen
, does it matter which one I go to first?

I believe both are eventually required and the order doesn't matter. I will suggest
you should have your fourth party member at this point, because I learned the hard way that you can do both Providence and Nottagen with still 3 party members and lose out on job leveling.
