Dragon Quest 7: Fragments of the Forgotten Past |OT| Roman numerals are hard

The game's plot points and overall plot bothers me sometimes.
At one point I went to see the Tower from the Wetlock area in the Present and when I enter it and meet the Slime crew, one of my team mates says that it reminds them of the Slime they spoke with in the Past. And yet my earliest recollection of even TALKING to a Slime is in King Maximo's place.

Then there is the search for the Fire Stone, I would never have known about this until I pressed B to hear what my team mates would say about our next objective. To learn that Pike of all people had it begs the question of: How was I supposed to know THAT? Am I supposed to talk with everyone in Estard when I save a Past town so I would know about this?

Finally there's Buccanham, if you're one that doesn't bother to talk to NPCs you wouldn't know you needed to rest at the Inn to progress the plot...which is something that in prior islands you could catch on, but in Buccanham, and unless I missed it, why would you even need to rest at the Inn? If one of your team mates brought that up then yeah you would go around talking to NPCs to figure out how to rest at the Inn, but you never get ANY indication you need to until you talk to an NPC in the Inn/Bar building.

For the first two:

There was a slime in the tower in the past. Before the flood he tells you there's Goomans on the third floor. After the flood he tells you about the fishermen.

For the second one you actually take the stone right at the beginning of the game to see if it does anything at the shrine.

You're totally right about the third though. It's obtuse. Even worse:
Getting the priest's fragment in the present.

I sadly did not know about the first, but would've preferred if they didn't bring it up UNLESS I already spoken to them.

As for the second...man my memory of what happens early in the game is shot, I only just remembered the old guy you had to talk to help you with entering the Shrine early in the game :p

The DLC tablet containing that massive Conquistador Hero boss almost kicked my ass.

Was not expecting a tough fight since my team were all lower-mastered Monster classes. Did mostly 50s to it during most of the fight and it kept one shotting my party with Blade of Ultimate Power and Kazap? Eventually I had to rely on Hatchet Man and Sleep to win lol.

The Metal King Shield drop was worth it tho

Didn't realise you lose abilities when you change from advanced vocations, did it work like that in previous games? (6 mainly)

Just went to to use multiheal and it wasn't there :(

I think you get them back depending on what 3rd tier (Advanced) vocations you choose. I got most of my Paladin and Gladiator abilities back when leveling the Champion vocation.

So I'd say I'm about 80-85% close to the end of the game now. Got the final mode of transportation and am now class grinding. You know I totally forgot certain twists near the end like
how the hero is descended from Capt Sharkeye the pirate and the reason he was saved (the water spirit saved his ancestor, Capt Sharkeye's son from the Demon King and placed on that central island for protection) because he was to play a big role in the game and the end boss. Or realizing that Mervyne (melvin to me) is really ancient, that when the hero goes to the sky temples, all soldiers of god, remember Melvin as being the original hero against the Demon Lord, thus takes 2 heroes to beat one Demon King.
. I'll cherish the game but don't think I'll do the bonus stuff, I'm going to be DQ'd out soon as I'm guessing I'll be at 100 hours plus when finishing thr game. Need to take a breather :p

Can someone help me out? I haven't played the game in a bit and last time I put it down I was sorta stuck. I'm missing a fragment, probably a blue one? Not sure. The last thing I remember doing is killing the boss in Grotta del Sigillo and then going back to the present and attended the animal festival and back to Grotta del Sigillo and got the small cutscene there.

Still missing a fragment and the Next Tablet Fragment option in game keeps telling me to go to Grotta del Sigillo but there's nothing there. The fragment notification thing isn't even lighting up there.

Anyone have any idea what I might have missed? I also asked for guidance but he just says he can't hear anything at all.

😢

The fragment fairy is mostly useless for that so don't bother with him.

Have you checked both past and present Grotta del Sigillo?

In present, did you open the stone casket where you fought the boss

Wow Kiefer...

dumping exciting adventures with the crew for a girl smh

I was surprised to see buyable S
underbolt
B
lades
towards the end of the game. That, in addition to the buyable Fire Claws from early on (which I want to suggest is one of the best long term investments you can make in this game, even for characters that can't equip it. I'm nearing the end of the game and they still out-damage most unbuffed regular attacks) and some other spellcasting items you can get would ensure that a "no vocations" challenge will have a lot of viable tools to work with.

What a fantastic way to play this game. Lost a memory card with a 90+ hour save file years ago for the PS1. Never thought I'd play it again because while I loved it, the pacing and beginning was so onerous in the original.

Really loving it and cannot wait to unlock the job system.

What the fuck at Cumulus Vex.

Very first turn he does his AoE attack then the single target wind attack on MC and kills him.

Then four resurrects failed, then the fifth was met immediately by another AoE attack so MC died instantly.

This was at level 30 with armour and shield both lowering magic damage.

Edit: And second try he does his AoE attack once for the entire battle and I annihilate him with ease. lol

. Man, either the game is much easier or I'm much better at this. I remember relying on the
Sand of Times
a lot in the original, here I completely forgot they are a thing.

Not having access to advanced vocations abilities is super annoying. Can't recall if it was the case in the original, but really hampers my enjoyment of the Job System. Ruff capped PLD so no reason to not switch him to Warrior to get Champion, but in doing so all my PLD progresses feel useless until I get the the third-tier class and I'm essentially playing with a gimped party. :/

When does
Maribel
come back? I'm getting really annoyed cause I want to grind to build up my team since I'm stuck at a boss but I don't want to waste time grinding if I can't even have all of my party members I want for end game.

I'm at
where you're fighting Orgodemir in the dungeon under the excavation site.

Niraj

I shot people I like more for less.
So if I want to get Platinum King Jewel I need to max out at least Slime and Drake Major Hearts?

There's a heart you can get from trading in medals. Otherwise it's a lot of work.

I did: Rockbomb then Berserker-> Golem then Serial Quiller-> Automaton -> Slaughtomaton then Rashaverak -> Ersatz Estark then Drake Slime -> Platinum King Slime

Keep in mind you can get a lot of hearts from the lucky panel casino game, and some can be found in chests as well. I believe that gamefaqs link also had locations listed. So you could probably cut some of those out. I distinctly remember getting a Golem heart from a chest later in the game, and got Rockbomb, Berserker, Rashaverak, and Drake Slime from the casinos.

Im so glad that they decided to
remove a party member, and then take away all your spells and give you a bunch of unwinnable battles

This area has been the only real misstep so far with the game.

No way. That part is awesome. One of the better stories imho.

Sharkeye isn't the hero's ancestor. It's his actual son. The sea god transported him actoss time and into Molly's womb

I have a followup question:

I'm Mervyn in Buccanham. When can I next got to Alltrades and change vocations. 3 of my 5 characters have mastered their currents ones...

After the Mervyn part, there's one more dungeon, then you get to go there.

So how do I get access to this excavation site?

This area has been the only real misstep so far with the game.

However, they give you access to a small variety of spell casting items at that point.
Eventually there's another shop with a cheap Lucida shard that you can buy which will confuse enemies.

~50 hours in, working on the questline for
Nottagen. Just beat Sulkk incredibly easily, used Venom Breath on him for an extra ~250 damage per turn and kept everyone buffed/healed with Maribel and Mervyn. Really enjoying this game!

While it ends up turning out to be a sound decision in hindsight, the immediate short-term effects his leaving has is really apparent. Dude literally left his family, friends, and the people of Estard behind, forever.

That said, I still like Kiefer.

I can't figure out where to go next.
I just got to the village full of animals that I assume used to be people.

Yeah, I was wondering why he couldn't just portal around through time but it seems the point in time the portals take you is Narnia Style, Emberdale had a couple of years pass while I was doing Faraday / Greenthumb but the other areas don't seem to have advanced that much.

I don't understand his character design..His personality is a mismatch!

looks too much like a villain than a prince...

I assume you mean
Cumulus Vex
. I just finished that fight and nearly wiped out a few times--surprised I didn't, honestly! First challenging fight I've had since Alltrades.

Actually, no. It looked like a genie, I think.

I had to backtrack to sleep at an inn but the dungeon is still going.

Now you got me scared. :(
