Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen PC |OT| Wolves hunt in 4K

Finally I'm back. Anyway, anyone think this is a CPU-sided game? I'd imagine a 970 would be able to handle max graphics options fine at a decent framerate, but I only get like 40FPS on average, so the only logical explanation I can come up with is that I'm being CPU bottlenecked by my FX6300.

Lower your draw-distance.

Does meeting the duke bring the final quest(s) of the game? The quest giver made a big deal about not being able to complete my remaining quests and having to turn in my writ of the hunt. If so is it better just to steamroll through it and just play in New Game+ or wander around and do as I please for a while first?

With maximum settings, it's somewhat CPU heavy, as isn't too uncommon for open world games. I get 100+FPS average at 1080p (with no postprocessing) on my OC'd 5820k with a 970, so clearly you're being constrained by CPU performance.

Of course, I actually play at 4k with additional postprocessing, so my CPU is idling most of the time :p

No, you've still got plenty left to do before you get to the end of the first half of the game. You'll know exactly when that is. Though I'd recommend you finish the hunt quests before meeting the duke. You'll get some good loot and EXP out of it.

No, you're still quite early in the story, actually.
Just finish all of the wyrm hunt quests first if you want all the exp and rewards.

Thanks. =) Already did all of the other hunt quests so maybe I'll chat with the duke.

Pretty much been playing assassin exclusively and that class is so much fun. I like having a speedy, dagger wielding character with the option to go ranged. Looking at that chart, I'll probably stick with it up to 100 and decide from there whether I want to try some of the other classes. Getting to the point where most of the ogres and cyclops I come across are push overs, but killed my first griffon the other day, and that was a fun fight. =D

So Rangers are all about Ten Fold Arrow. Later on, when facing the big bads, you'll be burning Blast Arrows like nobody's business in conjunction with Ten Fold. That's how you excel. It's really your only trick.

As for buffs: that's a general thing with strength classes that you never get away from. Certain enemies are just highly resistant to physical damage, and you need an elemental buff (or magic weapon, or stacked consumables) to really do damage.

Magic Archers are stupid good once you figure out how their skills work. They break BBI wide open. Shit like Eliminators and Gorecyclops (which will RUIN your day) become a non issue. Plus they're capable in melee, can double jump/dodgeroll and can pick from both yellow and blue gear.

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated. I'm only lv. 40 now, so I think I'll give Magick Archer a go and see how that works out. I don't really want my character to turn into a one-trick pony.

Hm decisions, decisions.
I've maxed out Fighter now and I want to change vocation but I'm not sure in which way. Initially I wanted to go for Warrior, but only having three skills seems rather lacking after the six i have with fighter. Are the warrior skills cool and make up for the lack of slots?
On the other hand, assassin looks appealing and seems to offer a great variety of weapon combinations...

Also, do the "skill learning points" (DP?) transfer over to the new vocation or am I better off spending them before I switch?

Only certain moves transfer over to other vocations, but all augments are usable for every class.

But yes, DP is universal. It's not tied to a class.

Lose out on fighter's defensive options and lack the speed / range of yellow/blue classes, but damn the Arc of Might skill line is funny to land fully charged.

Discipline isn't tied to a class. Just buy what you want to use.

I was thinking of using that, but they haven't shown any images of the leg hair ingame - assuming that part on the texture dump is the leg, it looks kind of off.

I knew someone would make this! Disappointed by the lack of body hair, I want a rug just like Dragon Age or Skyrim *tear it's so beautiful.

Honestly, given the usual trend in Japanese games, I was relieved they bothered even giving the default body nipples - for all its other attempts at naturalism, MGSV only has a vague shadow where they should be; for example. Though Capcom hasn't really been the worst offender in that regard - even more stylised series like Street Fighter have dropped it.

LiQuid!

I proudly and openly admit to wishing death upon the mothers of people I don't like
I've finally tried playing at least one of every archetype. It blows my mind a little bit how this game with a combat system so deep offers 9 classes that are each meaningfully different and satisfying to play. I hope to hell they make another one of these. I missed out on this game when it first came out on consoles, I won't make that mistake again.

I think my fav of all the classes I've tried so far has been Mystic Knight. Magic in this game is my first love but I hate missing out on being able to melee completely with the straight mage classes. MK's moveset is so good too. Love those sigils and cannon abilities so much. The shield/riposte skills seem very powerful, but I usually have another dedicated tank with me most of the time so I don't often get enough agro to justify the casting time to set them up.

Agreed. Which is why the hotkeys are nice this time around. I wish I could bind them to the controller though, sigh... couldn't figure out a control scheme with the DS3.
Last night I set up a DS4Windows scheme, and I used the idea of someone in the pre-release thread as a base and improved upon it.

Unbind L2 (sheathe), then use it as a shift/modifier button on the buttons below:
L2 + d-pad up = 1
L2 + d-pad left = 2
L2 + d-pad right = 3
L2 + d-pad down = 4
L2 + R2 = L2
L2 + circle = L3 (I hate constantly clicking L3)

That scheme gives you access to everything except keyboard 5, and that's easily remedied if you actually use all 5 hotkeys.

Heh, I think everyone accidently bumps into him at low level and gets decimated. I think we was put there quite intentionally by the devs.

For reference I was 42 when I beat him. Was a freakin epic fight too

Took me like 20mins. And yes also got rekt earlier lol

He took control of My lv78 hired strider, who killed me with her arrow skills¯_(ツ)_/¯

Still, it was exciting, finally some Challenge!

castle you have to free from goblins
.Got rekted after 2 and half life bars, but just because of his pawn control attack, i could retry but i am still too weak i think(lv 31).

I'm not new to DD but I am fairly new to Warrior and fighting dragons at low levels. I decided to have a go last night, about level 37. It wasn't quite 20 minutes, but I did end up going through every single health consumable I had. Eventually took him down though, and
dragonforged my hammer in the process. Shame I'm going to switch classes after I've saved for a couple of augments.
I don't think I would have made it if it wasn't for the i-frames on Exodus Slash. Made full use of that by the end, believe me!

Finished
Deny Salvation
quest and
Duchess In Distress
quest cancelled, my first run is absolutely fucked lol. Can't help that quest management is so terrible, my second run (after I finished Dark Arisen) will use walkthrough. Capcom if you make DD2 please improve quest management -_-

I'd say play what you want. The only consideration is this:

http://dragonsdogma.wiki.fextralife.com/stat+growths

Your first 100 levels are where you get the majority of your stats. If you play a bit of everything getting to 100 you turn into a generalist, not excelling at any one thing but being capable in all areas. If you play strength classes (Assassin, Warrior, Fighter, Ranger) you'll turn into a physical powerhouse. If you play magic classes (Mage, Sorcerer) you turn into Gandalf.

So if you want to be completely OP endgame: pick a side of the fence (strength or magic) and focus on that.

For the record, I went the generalist route (leveled almost exclusively as a Strider) and it worked out fine.

I really don't think you need to worry about stat growth at all, no matter what level you are. At the endgame your main attack stat with a maxed out weapon will be like 1500-2000. Someone figured out that optimizing your stat growth only gives you an extra 100-200 strength or magic versus an average build spread out among all classes. So like an extra 5-10% (these are numbers based off of a vague recollection of a post so they may not be accurate but the conclusion is). That's not nothing but it's not something that you need to worry about.

so i'm doing the troublesome tome sidequest

i killed almost all of the female bandits and realize I have to go to the other camp yet it still says explore the thieve's hideout? I already killed their leader cause I'm a male. Should I just ignore it and make my way to the next marker?

Ehh...your numbers are wonky. A magic focused character will have around 200 more magic than a generalist, and around 300 more than a character who leveled as a strength character. Now factor in the +30% you get from augments and you're looking at a 260/390 stat difference. To put that into perspective, the first magic vocation weapons you'll find in BBI have magic scores of around 500 base, 900 gold. So that 260/390 is a big deal.

Comparing the extra stats to the final maxed out super weapons is kind of silly. Most people will never have those, and by the time the rest have the game is already beyond over. The toughest part of the game, where the min maxing pays off the most, is in BBI on the way to those super weapons. I agree that once you've conquered everything and have them then 260/390 doesn't make a difference any more.

lmao My main is Lady from DMC. I just went pawn shopping and I found another Lady in the rift.

How do I show my appreciation for this fine gentleman?

Morrigan Stark

^ Still ain't worth it. Let people just experiment with vocations and have fun.

Thanks Morrigan for using my pawn! I was starting to think she was bugged and invisible to the network or something.
No prob. I'll probably re-hire her at some point, been rotating out GAF pawns. Took some low levels into the Everfall, they managed surprisingly okay. ^^ Though at some point one pawn (Lilith? I forget) apparently decided to suicide in Soulflayer Canyon somehow.... <_< So if you see a 3-star or 4-star (I re-hired her and gave her 5 star, I guess it must average it out) rating it was because of that, lol.

Helloooooooo

I'd install this if I wasn't always wearing armour lol.

Does this cancel out the pawn commands? Wouldn't the game still recognize the d-pad press and act accordingly?

Hire her, play around a bit, send her away with 5 star and a nice gift.

Without holding the modifier, every button works as normal. It's intuitive, and you'll have no problems adapting. L2 is for the most part unused anyway, it expands the controls without losing anything.

As luck would have it, about 30 minutes before attempting that I did an escort mission that rewarded me with 100 Potent Greenwarish (a ridiculously good reward, and I knew the route so I cleared it before going and it was a breeze), so I was carrying round 10 of those. It made all the difference.

the quest design in this game is annoying

I get a quest to find a tome in one of two locations. I go to the northern place, turns out it isn't there, clear out the fort anyway. Go to the southern place which does have the tome but the guy says he's only giving me the tome once I clear out the rival bandit camp in the northern place where I just went...

.....

also no helm hide? come on

either way definitely enjoying the game. How easy is it to max out a vocation? Should I be constantly switching them or what? I was planning on maxing Strider then moving on to Ranger or Assassin and going from there

There are multiple ways to finish the quest, some of which don't involve going to the north.

I know, I realize those other ways as well but it seems silly he wouldn't acknowledge me for already killing their leader(s) no?

Well.. for some reason the trigger for the quest is just to kill any 10 random female bandit from that group, not necessarily their leader.

It's actually just any 10 female bandits, they don't need to be from the group.

Most of them hang out around the female bandit base - with the males hanging out around the male bandit base.

I'm big on immersion and I wanna know if I can turn off all on screen notifications. I was told you could but I would also like to know if I could have a dynamic hud, having it only appear when I fight and not have it on 24/7 when exploring.

I don't think a dynamic hud exists in this game, unfortunately, but it's definitely playable without HUD, imo. I have health bars on, because I like the RPG aspect of it, but there are the usual indicators of being low on health, so you can work with that. I have mini-map and button prompts turned off, and I don't really miss them. At least so far, we'll see later when the maps opens up more.

HOLY SHIT. I did miss it when creating my pawn. Will definitely use it. Too bad non modded games won't be able to see it as it's supposed to be, though.

EDIT: aww, it's Arisen only. :/

Shame.

So, I was trying the Enhanced Vanilla ENB preset a bit, and it's actually good. AO, AA, enhanced shadow, debanding, no vignette, 1-2 fps loss. And no, it doesn't make nights darker and shadows crushed black.

Sure, I'll take her for a ride later, as long as she isn't way beyond my level.

So, I was trying the Enhanced Vanilla ENB preset a bit, and ... debanding ...

Good timing, thanks for linking. Haven't modded DD yet but I got really fedup with the banding last night.

I'm loving the environments so much in this game. I've lost far too many hours in games that have flat oversized dungeons, with layout assets linked together like inappropriate Scalextric circuits.

But a lot of what I've seen so far feels organic and even plenty of outdoor areas feel purpose built to match the enemies / combat styles. My standards are raised, arisen.

----------

I was talking more about the pieces of armour in the game at the moment which used different textures over the same model in a similar manner to 2D games' swapping sprites' palettes - like the Gauntlets of Shadow to the Gauntlets of Oblivion - not the actual process that'd be used implementing custom colours. I haven't had a look at the textures yet - do those pieces of armour use that method, or are they separate copies of the texture?

Seperate copies probably

Yep fuck those things no means of escape at my level.

It doesn't become easier by level, a lvl1 has the same escape time as a lvl200, you just need to mash harder, or use the augment to make it easier.

I'm really not much of a fan of the overworld, in visuals or layout; but the dungeons are surprisingly well done. Along with being a lot less rough art-wise due to the smaller spaces and limited light sources, they seem to be fairly purposefully designed - varying in height and room size in a very organic way, and having claustrophobic spaces that don't unduly inhibit your control or destroy the camera. I hope that some of that can transfer over to DMC5...

You admire the dungeon and level design in the game and then you come to the lategame

.

Speaking of which, sometimes I don't understand this game. I fought a Metal Golem, destroyed all the discs scattered around the room bar one (floating high up in the air) and I simply could not damage it. Tried Fire, Ice and Thunder spells, tried Ice and Blast attacks with a bow, physical (regular) attacks with a bow, nothing made a dent. Had to abandon the fight. :/ Not sure if bugged or if I was simply missing something. Also couldn't figure out a way to get any of my pawns to attack the thing, they all just focused on the Golem.
