Gran Turismo is my favorite series of all time, yet I would still say it's in danger of being irrelevant, at least for those that demand a certain level of quality. There are problems that Polyphony has refused to fix over the years (like horrible AI and sound) and I refuse to buy another game until they are addressed. I don't care about how many copies they sell or if there are 1300 cars in the game if the game has the same problems it had on PS1.

I'll probably get GT7, just to have GT on PS4, but, in the same way I skipped GT6, I can't see myself getting GT8. The series needs completely gutted and rebooted. AI and sound are major gripes I have, but not as big as the sheer inconsistancy the game has, between stunningly detailed and PS2 upres.

Those comments I read from Podcast Beyond are such a piss off, because this game is so accessible and fun and tight and just overall well-made, and these asshats are playing the contrarian corner game just to have something to shit on.

BTW watch my video :3

EDIT

YouTube Link just in case you don't feel like downloading from Mega.

This looks awesome i love this i am also a addict for this. Same thing in yet again NFS Hot Pursuit 2010. I mean everything on the wall there i had to beat it..every single time better times etc..and i mean i am very competitive with this.

I know they told so, but this particular line confuses me.
In my local PS Store it also says, that to use this item, i need an active PS+ subscription.
I wonder, how they will allow me to re-download it without PS+, because it's written pretty straight, that I need one.
What if they didn't implement the fix they were talking about?

When you buy the PS+ upgrade you get the full game. Plain and simple.

A company being excited for their new game is a huge slap in the face to all the fans that liked their old games.
I wanna point out something else about the visuals.

All those dynamic weather features aren't just eye candy, even if the day is merely overcast, there's real cloud/wind physics at play here with world lighting, so one lap you're racing under clouds and your visibility in a tunnel turn ain't that great. Next lap the sun comes back out and you nail that turn just because it's sunnier... or at least it feels that way. It's sweet.

And for a non-sim, the cars have real distinctive handling. I'm doing the same lap now but some Audi Coupe something, and compared to the Lotus Evora it understeers like a bitch.

I actually like the rewind option. Im not a pro racing player, so I like to rewind at where I did a mistake and try it again. And it actually helped me A LOT to understand the car reaction on the racing games. I started Forza for the 1st time this year with the FM5 free weekend, I was a complete disaster, then I got FH2 demo and started pretty low-avarage, now Im doing quite decent already and doing curves with much more precision.

Not that I think every racing game needs it though! But I liked the feature and think it could fit well on DC too. But yeah, I can understand that some doesnt like it.

Actually, it doesn't fit well with DC. One of the game's primary objectives is leaderboard chasing. Rewind mode will then need its own leaderboard in order to stay fair and would split players based on whether they choose to rewind or not. Kinda antithetical to the game's design.

"Clean" time vs "dirty." Any clean time is faster than any dirty time. One leaderboard for the event. You could have tabs with each time to show which driving assists were active (and manual vs automatic shifting). Problem solved.

Thanks for the impressions and videos Rapier.

Can't wait to play this next week. Taking 2 days off of work.

One more question- Does this have local splitscreen? Just curious.

No problem!

And no there isn't split screen as far as I'm aware. Strictly online.

Of course there is a way to solve any problem. I was talking about the design ethos and "fit" here and not whether it can be technically solved with more tabs and variables.

Rapier has been doing God's work this last 24 hours, thanks for the videos and words of hype, mang! So funny thinking back to your first 'Sorry guys, it's all jaggies' post, to what we have now.

Rushy should fly you into Runcorn to play with the team.

It's a simple solution used in tons of other series (like Codemasters' F1 games) that encourages a wider range of competition, while still rewarding greater skill. I'd sure like to think it would fit nicely.

All the thanks I require is another Brutal Offroad Racing™ game after this one.

Meanwhile, have some more scenery porn:

Thanks!

You know one of the big reasons I loved PGR4 so much was to match the weather and mood of the day with racing.
If it's cloudy fall day, I'll mimic it in the game.
Pouring rain- time to race in the rain.
In the middle of a winter snowfall- laps around The Ring in the snow.
Or a race on a crisp cold clear day on an icy track.

I love that.

I do it with MotoGP too (although the weather is more limited). In fact, I'm looking forward to going home today and racing in the rain since it's a gray, rainy day here.

The graphics and gameplay looks fantastic, but the custom variable time of day and weather will give this game vast replay value for me.

Thank you for these impressions, great to read about the distinctive handling.

I'm ok with having it for practice but I don't think it was ever a good idea to have rewind options for competitive leader boards, regardless of series. So we will have to agree to disagree :)

It seems like the aliasing/shimmer stands out more at certain times of day. From other games, I've noticed overcast tends to diminish those problems. Is the same true here?

Edit: I'd almost forgotten: Any obvious LAN support for multiplayer?

Wait, so there IS wind??

It's something that I did not think was in the game. Can you "feel" wind resistance? Is it measured in the game? I mean, wind just seems like a huge deal to me.

Can you hear how windy it gets?

It gets my hopes up for windy weather in the patch, because wind would really make the game feel that much more realistic... but then I imagine that it's incredibly difficult to add strong wind, because that means they'd have to simulate wind on the foliage, which sounds like too much work for this iteration of the game
